Lush - I'm too scared to go in!

Help! I'm usually a confident person but for some reason I'm a bit afraid of going into lush!! My DNiece is 8 and wants a few bits from there for Christmas, but what? What's good? Where do I look? What do I ask for?

Everybody seems to knowledgeable with the little packets & wrappers, and it looks like some things get weighed??

AIBU to ask you for help guiding me through what appears to be the slightly weird world of Lush?? Grin

I've seen a sleepy range mentioned...

What is it and is it suitable for a 5yos bath?

Oysterbabe · 19/12/2017 14:26

There's a sleepy cream and also a bath bomb. The bath bomb is blue and robot shaped, supposed to be relaxing. They told me it's fine for small children as the colouring used is safe to eat.

ineedamoreadultieradult · 19/12/2017 14:28

The staff in there will absolutely love you in there if you go in and say "I have X budget to spend on an 8 year old girl who is into X, y and z" I absolutely hate being pounced on and like to be left to my own devices but like you I went in there past Christmas and was so out of my depth that when one of the assistants said "can I help you?" I almost hugged them! In my experience they don't try and up sell you either.

Donnerkebabbler · 19/12/2017 14:34

Not used it myself but a friend says the sleepy range does help her nod off. The blue bath bomb with seaweed in is my favourite, ive long sworn by seaweed for smoothing skin. Also rub rub scrub. Skin looks visibly smoother. Avoid ocean salt face scrub if you are sensitive though, it contains vodka and stung too much plus the colour seemed to drain from my face after using it

Coastalcommand · 19/12/2017 14:48

Sleepy range is great. The charity pot lotion is great too.
It isn't the cheapest but it's great quality.

humblesims · 19/12/2017 14:57

Yes as others have said the staff are always very friendly and they are also very young usually so its a bit like talking to a puppy. You will feel old if you are over 15. Front it out. I do. I only buy henna in there and always have the same convo "Do you know how to use it" "Yes I'm a 70's teenager" Look of awe that I have survived so long and can be that old.

Allwashedup · 19/12/2017 14:59

Grit your teeth, go in and speak to one of the assistants. They are normally very helpful in Lush and often approach you first.

mookinsx · 19/12/2017 15:11

personal favorite in there is a bubble bar

you can crumble it under the running tap water and it creates gorgeous smelling bubbles - one called the comforter, pink and white swirls, has always been a personal favourite
in terms of bath bombs
dragons egg and twilight
i think they discontinued my two favourite soaps - porridge and lemsip
(both sound odd but loved them both)

failing that you can do an online order or grab a gift set
look online before you go and you can have more of an idea as to what to get
or the shower jellys were always so much fun (again they discontinued my favourite scent sweetie pie)

snow fairy shower gel is just gorgeous - very sweet smelling
and if you need something different?- they do massage bars, a white heart shaped one with glitter - just used for adding a bit of sparkle

i loved this shop growing up and even had a birthday party in there

good luck and embrace it
grab yourself a bath bomb as well to make it worth while?!

MycatsaPirate · 19/12/2017 15:16

Oh Lush is amazing! DD2 has autism and instead of a Lush party they did an hour's 'tour' with her and her best friend. They literally got to play with every product in the shop!! The staff are so bloody lovely.

I will also recommend edible lip scrub which are so gorgeous. Ask to try them, and choose which one you think she will like.

On the bath bomb side my DD2 liked the lavender robot ones at aged 8 but is now into the rainbow bombs which are just amazing when you put them into water.

Go. Embrace the whole experience.

LBOCS2 · 19/12/2017 15:24

I dived in to grab a couple of Lush fidget spinner bubble bars for stocking fillers recently but had DD1 with me. The staff were fantastic - one whisked her off to cover her in glitter play with the sample bath bombs and another wrapped up my bubble bars and got me to pay while she was distracted. Excellent customer service.

Babababababybel23 · 19/12/2017 15:26

All of the above advice and take a nose peg. The smell is overwhelming and makes me want to throw up after ten seconds. I send dh to pick up my bath bombs Grin

Animation86 · 19/12/2017 15:29

I thought it was in fear of getting pounced on too lol

SparklingSnowfall · 19/12/2017 15:30

I'm definitely going in now! And I will get a little treat for myself too, it'll be a reward for being brave you see!!

OP posts:
SparklingSnowfall · 19/12/2017 15:30

Yes the initial fear was the pouncing and the confusion of not knowing what to buy!

I love Lush.
Try the Twilight shower gel and Sleepy body lotion if you love lavender. Or Rose Jam, it's their Christmas seasonal shower gel.
Snow Fairy is great for kids, my daughter has the shower gel and the body lotion now. I also really love their staff, they are lovely but not pushy and always have a nice chat with you. We are a Lush household in here!

LilaoftheGreenwood · 19/12/2017 15:39

Oh I have found (some of) my people! I have been using Angels on Bare Skin for about 15 years and swear by it but the psychological trauma involved in going to get it! It doesn't matter if I enter the shop at a run and execute a ninja roll towards the face products, I still get the scary friendly pounce. I probably would stay and have a browse if I thought I wouldn't be disturbed every 10 seconds. Fortunately the one I usually use is London Victoria so I can mutter about my train as I literally run out the door.

Reallycantbebothered · 19/12/2017 15:46

Oh and ask about the party's they do...great for pre teens...(£15/ person) my dd loved hosting them as the dcs got to experiment with the products and get to make things! ( face masks, bubble bar or bath bomb)
The lavender scented sleepy lotion is amazing and really does work if you have problems sleeping!

SparklingSnowfall · 19/12/2017 15:49

Oh goodness, I have problems sleeping, I probably need that stuff too! I'm going to come back on Thursday night and say 'where has this been all my life' aren't I?!

I love Lush. Some advice though - they will try and sell you their gift boxes. Dont buy those, they are terrible value!

Bubble bars > bath bombs

Body conditioners are nice. I like bucks fizz despite the calpol-y smell.

Shower gels come in tiny bottles too so good for stocking fillers and such. I am addicted to Oaty Dreamy Creamy but and 8 year old might like Snow Fairy.

The staff WILL ambush you Grin (but nicely) and be helpful if you tell them exactly what you want and don't want.

I love going in there and having a chat and a random cream with the employees. I still only buy what I want.

BadFeminist · 19/12/2017 16:06

Also, every time I take the kids they leave with something free.

And once I went in after I'd just been sacked and I was sad and they wanted to gift me a bath bomb.

My bubble bars also last about 6 baths, just run them under the tap until there's bubbles and then leave it somewhere to dry.

Every Lush I've been into the staff are brilliant. Just go in and tell them the age of the person you're buying for and they will do the rest x

SparklingSnowfall · 21/12/2017 07:13

I'm going today!! Grin

I used to love lush until I got the UTI from hell. Found the staff waaaay to pushy though.

Vinorosso74 · 21/12/2017 07:19

My DD who is nearly 8 loves the bath bombs and bubble bars. They do some cylindrical packs (like a small cracker shape in cellophane) with 3 different coloured bubble bars which she loves and a larger rainbow coloured one.

SummatFishyEre · 21/12/2017 07:26

I went in there and all the assistant had to say was mermaid water and I pretty much threw my money at her! Take my money! Take it!

Mermaid water is a beautiful green and gold swirly glittery effect that you get from mixing "sunnyside" bubble bar with "big blue" bath bomb. Big blue does have seaweed in it so if you don't like that idea you can get a similar effect with a "shoot for the stars" bath bomb with the sunnyside bubble bar. Also if you've never used a bubble bar, you only need to use a bit of it - one should do about 4 baths I find
