Lush - I'm too scared to go in!

Help! I'm usually a confident person but for some reason I'm a bit afraid of going into lush!! My DNiece is 8 and wants a few bits from there for Christmas, but what? What's good? Where do I look? What do I ask for?

Everybody seems to knowledgeable with the little packets & wrappers, and it looks like some things get weighed??

AIBU to ask you for help guiding me through what appears to be the slightly weird world of Lush?? Grin

Yes they will pounce but all you have to say is "im okay for now, thanks. I'll let you know if I need anything".

SparklingSnowfall · 19/12/2017 11:33

Ooh bubble bars, what's a bubble bar??

Ah x post op! Yes, they’re a bit much aren’t they? Wish they’d tone it down. But, I’d embrace it if you don’t really know what you want, or don’t embrace it; say “I’m just browsing thanks”, which is code for “shove off”!

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 19/12/2017 11:34

And if you do want help at least you know they're more than willing to help you, and they don't act like they're doing you a favor by serving you. I can't stand

LanaKanesLeftNippleTassle · 19/12/2017 11:34

Oh yes definitely embrace the pouncing!

I've never met a Lush assistant I wouldn't go to the pub with...they must have a great recruitment team.

thelastredwinegum · 19/12/2017 11:37

sparkling they're solid bubble baths, they change the colour of the water and produce lots of bubbles :)

LanaKanesLeftNippleTassle · 19/12/2017 11:38

Bubble bars are lovely bars you crumble into the bath to get the most amazing amount of bubbles and beautiful scent.

I buy DS some of their fun soap every year for his stocking....its like plasticine and he loves playing with it....and its a great way to get a grubby little boy to wash even when he thinks he isnt

WildRosesGrow · 19/12/2017 11:38

I was given one of these wands, think your niece might like it:
uk.lush.com/products/bubble-bars/magic-wand

The bubble bars really do make a blanket of bubbles, I just used up my last one and was absolutely covered!

Reallycantbebothered · 19/12/2017 11:40

My dd worked in Lush in Edinburgh when she was a student ...she loved working there, they really look after their staff who get great training ( and discount!)
Say what your budget is and who you're buying for and they'll give you some great suggestions
She came home from uni with a massive amount of samples which we're working our way through
Bubble bars are great as you can break small bits off and they make your skin soft and smell divine ...get 1 bath bomb for effect! ( although gorgeous they are expensive for a 1 off) ...their shower gels are great too

EduCated · 19/12/2017 11:40

Bubble bars are sort of solid bubble bath/a multi-use bath bomb. So you hold it under a tap, and get a few uses out of it. Bath bombs only last one go. I think for you g ones the bath bombs have a bit more excitement!

SparklingSnowfall · 19/12/2017 11:40

Oh that looks lovely Wild I'm definitely looking for pretty/sparkly stuff!

Bubble bars and snow fairy!

NameChanger22 · 19/12/2017 11:43

We embraced the loveliness of the staff and they gave DD a freebie. Their bath bombs are amazing. Kids also love the rainbow soap.

Jaxhog · 19/12/2017 11:43

Go in and ask for help to choose. Staff in Lush are usually lovely and helpful.

EduCated · 19/12/2017 11:43

You could get something like this set which has one of each. Golden wonder is my favourite bath bomb, has glittery stars in it!

horatioisabrick · 19/12/2017 11:44

Lush is imo a rather lovely (but rather fragrant) place. I don’t think I’ve ever encountered a nasty lush employee... you could poke around their website / see whether something looks like your niece would enjoy it?

dingdongdigeridoo · 19/12/2017 11:44

I avoid Lush because I hate the pouncing. I just want to look around and sniff things! Even when I’ve politely declined their help I’ve found they won’t leave you alone, or another one will come up to annoy you.

Since I got my card details stolen when I used their website, I’ve given up on ever having another bath bomb.

Roomba · 19/12/2017 11:47

I find the staff in Lush really in your face, and don't leave you alone.

I believe they have no CCTV in any of their stores because the big boss objects for some ethical reason - I imagine this is part of the reason they love following everyone around 'helpfully'. They may believe people buy more out of politeness when an over friendly assistant is insisting they must try x or y, but it does my head in. I love the products but buy online instead now!

bluesu · 19/12/2017 11:48

Pfft. I HATE the customer service in Lush. Had to go there to get a smelly migraine inducing something or other for a gift and was literally punched on by six staff members as I was walking around in the first 30 seconds. That kind of service irritates the hell out of me BUT if you're unsure of what you're looking for I guess that's the kind of service you need.

Ugh!

Roomba · 19/12/2017 11:49

I've bought the FUN bars a few times for my DCs. I always end up with a melted puddle of goo seeping out all over my bathroom cupboard once they've been opened, even when I wrap them back up very carefully. What am I doing wrong?

Medeci · 19/12/2017 11:50

I'm scared to go in as well.
I've only got to walk past the shop and I get sneezing fits and a sore throat.

bellsandwhistles89 · 19/12/2017 11:51

I would definitely recommend Snow Fairy!

Careful getting your nose close to a pink glittery bath bomb as I ended up with a pink nose tip which lasted all day.

Also be prepared for glitter in the bath for the rest of the week and then finding some every now and then on your person...

bluesu · 19/12/2017 11:51

Pounced on. Not punched on. That really would be cause for complaint.

Damn auto correct

MissionItsPossible · 19/12/2017 11:54

Take a peg with you. I had to spend ten minutes in Ludh and whilst I realise I'm not their target audience, I felt so sorry for the staff. I kept sneezing and had a horrible headache when I came out. I speed up now even walking past one

rcit · 19/12/2017 11:54

I've no idea but that shop stinks. Walk in, find assistant, say hello please can you help me I need a christmas present for an 8yo costing about £?whatever you want to spend.
