Lush - I'm too scared to go in!

Help! I'm usually a confident person but for some reason I'm a bit afraid of going into lush!! My DNiece is 8 and wants a few bits from there for Christmas, but what? What's good? Where do I look? What do I ask for?

Everybody seems to knowledgeable with the little packets & wrappers, and it looks like some things get weighed??

AIBU to ask you for help guiding me through what appears to be the slightly weird world of Lush?? Grin

Lush, not Ludh, I think that's an overseas version

Roomba · 19/12/2017 11:55

Last time we actually went in store, DS1 was enthusiastically trying out all the lip balms and lip scrubs.

I wasn't really looking at him as was chasing DS2 around manically - when we got out and halfway up the road, I saw DS1 had used a 'tinted' lip balm that was BRIGHT red - it was smeared all over half his face, he'd put so much on! He was trying to wipe it off frantically before anyone from school walked by, but it stained his face and mouth for about two days Grin

BulletFox · 19/12/2017 11:56

Brave it! It's one short, sharp mission and the staff will pounce help and after that you'll know what you like and can order online

It's a bad time of year, admittedly...just brace yourself

MoistCantaloupe · 19/12/2017 11:56

I hate the pounce too. They don't leave you alone! Last time I went in, I had this interaction:

Lush: Have you used a shampoo soup bar before?
Me, showing little interest: No
Lush: Let me get someone to chat you through them all!
Me: No, don't worry - I'm not going to buy any today.

To which Lust then replied "Actually, the way we do our customer service here, is that we have a very interactive experience". Well, I've been told!

I just ran off before second person was found.

Anxiousally · 19/12/2017 11:57

I love lush.
Yes the staff can be quite in your face but they're so knowledgeable about EVERYTHING they sell.
I went and got my neice some rainbow fun, she's 8 too and i know she'll absolutely love it.
I'd definitely go bubble bars rather than bombs too you get alot more for your money candy mountain and the comforter are beautiful and anything snow fairy is devine. I've done my christmas lush shop so I'm rather jealous OP.

BulletFox · 19/12/2017 11:59

Cantaloupe shampoo soup :)

They must be diversifying their product range

BadFeminist · 19/12/2017 12:01

Go in and have a chat, they are really lovely (if at times enthusiastically overbearing) and will do their best to help.

Also ask for samples of everything in a tub or the toothy tabs. They are free and are lovely.

Also, Lush Sleepy time and the solid shampoos are ridiculously amazing.

And anything Rose Jam.

Basically I love this place.

SparklingSnowfall · 19/12/2017 12:03

Ok, I've had a good browse at the website and I'm afraid that it is the sort of thing she'd like (and DD(4) will absolutely LOVE in a few years) I'm just going to have to go in!

Yes to the bubble bars and definitely yes to the snow fairy stuff, there I have some terms I can knowledgeably throw around now too!

What's the stuff that gets weighed? Do I need to embrace or avoid that??

OP posts:
SparklingSnowfall · 19/12/2017 12:03

Ooh and YY to samples! I can feel a big spend coming on!

OP posts:
QuimReaper · 19/12/2017 12:04

Captain I thought that too!

Don't worry OP, I walk in with a face that says "I am listening to a podcast, talk to me and I will boing you in the eyeball with your own OMG-festive dooly-boppers" and still get pounced on - they'll adore you if you actually ask for help Grin

GoReylo · 19/12/2017 12:05

I can't see that anyone has said it yet, and this may or may not be a conversation you've had with your niece, but unless she's asked for bath bombs, if she's susceptible to thrush or uti's, avoid them! Also some of the more violently coloured ones stain baths. My sisters bath got stained bright pink for weeks while she was trying to sell the house.

Snow Fairy, a cute Christmas bubble bar, and a cute slice of Christmas soap is what I'd look for. Or that shower jelly stuff.

WellTidy · 19/12/2017 12:05

All 8 year olds love bath bombs and bubble bars, especially that bubble bar on a stick. They are expensive though I think they're a brilliant fun treat. They have great seasonal ranges. The only bath bomb I don't like from there is the blue and white one with seaweed bits in it. My absolute favourite is twilight. They do it in a shower gel now too.

InvisibleToEveryone · 19/12/2017 12:07

My DD cracks her bath bombs into smaller lumps, works just as well and lasts longer .

WellTidy · 19/12/2017 12:07

I've tried pretty much every bath bomb they've sold for a few years and I've never had one stain the bath. Mine is a standard acrylic one. No idea how other bath materials are affected.

Aki99 · 19/12/2017 12:07

they are all lovely and also do box sets - the dragon egg bath bombs are lovely and ive got one for my 17 month old - to be used next year

MissTeri · 19/12/2017 12:07

Star Light Star Bright bath melt is stunning, it's like an overdose of glitter that bleeds a rainbow when put in the bath! Also YES YES YES to the bubble bars. I really like their Intergalactic bath bombs too, very colourful and leaves the bath looking like a galaxy. I LOVE Lush products, they are over priced but Christmas is all about treating people to expensive shit they'd never buy for themselves!

OurMiracle1106 · 19/12/2017 12:08

They do a snow fairy bath bomb too as well as shower gel now. Grin

Sad unfortunately its only at xmas they do them tho 😢

Oysterbabe · 19/12/2017 12:12

I tried that magic sleep cream on my toddler. Didn't work but she smells lovely :)
You can just walk in, browse and pick up things you want off the shelf. There's no weighing required.

Insomnibrat · 19/12/2017 12:12

Take cash if you're going to the Trafford centre one. I've been on twice now and both times their card machines had crashed and it ended up with a load of messing about.

QuimReaper · 19/12/2017 12:18

You can ask for a piece to be sawn off a chunk of soap if the pre-packaged sizes aren't to your taste, just like at the cheese counter, but there are always a load of pre-weighed ones.

I used to love their violet shampoo, used it for years.

emma8t4 · 19/12/2017 12:18

Get one of these I bought one for my ds and he loved it

uk.lush.com/products/intergalactic

ManicUnicorn · 19/12/2017 12:19

Intergalactic is my favourite bath bomb. Just so pretty, like the night sky.

SparklingSnowfall · 19/12/2017 12:20

That's a good point to consider GoReylo thank you, I think I'll just go with something gentle as a starter, Snow Fairy or a Bubble Bar sounds about right.

Good tip about the cash too! This is so helpful, thanks everybody!

SparklingSnowfall · 19/12/2017 12:21

Oh God, I love everything you're all suggesting!

PineappleTits · 19/12/2017 12:22

I agree with a PP about the Liverpool branch. It's disgustingly busy in there, you cannot move, but they still ask if you need any help and are scarily cheerful. Just ask them what a little girl would like, tell them your budget and I'm sure they will be immensely helpful! I recommend the snow fairy stuff Smile
