Everyone obviously thinks what they are telling you is true but sometimes their sources or opinions are not factually correct.

What is the most ridiculous or bizzare fact/opinion you have seen ?

I don’t know if it’s bizarre but the one I see again and again is that Zowie Bowie changed his name to Duncan Jones. Often used on baby name theads to prove children hate their unusual names.

It’s bullshit. Duncan Jones has always been Duncan Jones. His middle name was and still is Zowie.

SaucyJack · 18/12/2017 21:18

That "bizarre" is spelt "bizzare".

Bonkers, mate.

OlennasWimple · 18/12/2017 21:21

That "logging" stuff with the police is a thing

HunterHearstHelmsley · 18/12/2017 21:22

That you can't get fired for being off sick/being off when your child is sick

Roomba · 18/12/2017 21:22

That a Spa Day will cure everything! It will especially make asshole partners see the error of their ways and make them a changed man, apparently.

Can't think of anything worse than a Spa Day...

splendide · 18/12/2017 21:23

Another name one! That Jorga is a common spelling in other countries. I assumed this was true but googled it recently and it appears not.

Roomba · 18/12/2017 21:24

That all solicitors will give you a free half hour of legal advice, and this will generally be enough to sort any criminal or family law problems out!

BeeFarseer · 18/12/2017 21:30

That every can 'just move' if they have problem neighbours, using their bottomless piles of money for deposits and magic wands to wave away logistical problems.

That rectal bleeding isn't cancer if the blood is bright red. It has to be dark red apparently. Hmm

AlexaAmbidextra · 19/12/2017 00:04

That a cup of sweet tea is the answer to every crisis you could possibly have.

AlexaAmbidextra · 19/12/2017 00:05

That employers cannot give a bad reference.

That pretty much any dispute with an employer can be construed as constructive dismissal if you quit.

That and “I am a lawyer” If that we’re true every time, there are a disproportionate number of lawyers on mumsnet.

Originalfoogirl · 19/12/2017 00:09

Oh and “pretty popular girls all end up terminally single”

SheGotBetteDavisEyes · 19/12/2017 00:14

Life changing one, just a few months ago. Those wispy leggy non-spiders that seem to crop up in corners if you haven't swept them for a week KILL AND EAT BIG ONES.

My family is cursing the day I read that as now they have to live with me trying to preserve the wispy webby corners where my new favourite friends can sit waiting to take out another big nasty.

sycamore54321 · 19/12/2017 00:26

That medical advice, particularly for overdue babies or high risk cases, should be disregarded in favour of trusting your body. And just have a home birth instead. Irresponsible, dangerous nonsense.

There is also a high degree of respect for charlatans practicing alternative medicines and people suggesting taking newborns to quacks who will manipulate the bones of their skull to cure colic, tongue tie, any possible ailment.

ProseccoMamam · 19/12/2017 00:37

That formula is poisonous to children Hmm

That breastfeeding during the night for a prolonged period of time without brushing after can't rot teethConfused

That women with high risk pregnancies shouldn't go to hospital either to give birth or to have medical attention

That junk food causes ADHD

That dummies are only used by mums who can't be bothered soothing their kids

I cold go on.....

So fucking true

SleepIsForTheWeek · 19/12/2017 00:40

That a roast chicken will feed a family of 24 plus leftovers for a month.

crunchymint · 19/12/2017 00:42

Agree about the constructive dismissal one. Constructive dismissal is very hard to prove legally and is reserved for serious cases.
Also that something is legally an assault or harassment, when it clearly isn't. And that Social Services have lots of resources to offer to any family struggling that you report.

EssentialHummus · 19/12/2017 00:44

Most of the landlord/tenant advice on here is a one-way ticket to eviction.

ilovesooty · 19/12/2017 00:46

That you can just change the locks if you and your unsatisfactory husband are joint owners or tenants.

That everyone in financial trouble can rent a spare room to a lodger

That just getting a nanny or an au pair is the answer to all childcare problems

That parental leave can be taken at the drop of a hat if your child is ill. Parental leave is quite different and is not emergency leave.
