Everyone obviously thinks what they are telling you is true but sometimes their sources or opinions are not factually correct.

What is the most ridiculous or bizzare fact/opinion you have seen ?

That people don’t make snap judgements about people based on their names.

People absolutely do.

GoldilocksAndTheThreePears · 19/12/2017 01:25

In money troubles, circumstances changed, just move! Moving is free and very easy apparently. And it's worth having this current invasive and poorly thought out system when applying for disability benefits because there are so many, many scroungers. So many people know someone bringing in £2k a month on disability yet they regularly tapdance and haul furniture. Because of the other well known fact, disability is only physical and constant. No genuinely disabled person has periods when the disability isn't as apparent, days when it isn't as bad as others. This fact becomes more apparent in parking threads Grin

Also read a few times that nursery fees are high because the workers get paid well, and you still have to pay when closed for weather etc in order to pay the staff. Ha! Only once have I ever had a nursery job above min wage, 11p more than min wage per hour as I was a room leader. And never once paid for unexpected closure like snow days or boiler breaking etc.

I've also seen a couple of times, though not recently, the fact/opinion that troubled or poorly behaved older children and teens- I mean the big things like screaming fits, physical violence, thefts etc. are entirely down to SEN or bad parenting. It's troubling to read people stating if a teen with serious behavioral issues has no special needs or anything, it must be down to the parents doing something wrong or neglecting to do something.

its ok to incorrectly give your own, personal definition to a word, then get offended when someone uses it correctly because in your world it means something offensive

liminality · 19/12/2017 01:33

That a cup of sweet tea is the answer to every crisis you could possibly have. This is absolutely true, it's so true it's practically gospel.

On the other hand, the fact that any really tense issue in your actual life can be solved by the advice of goady strangers who are just looking for a fight is really quite bizarro.

frogsoup · 19/12/2017 01:37

Why is having multiple Oxbridge degrees a 'bizarre fact'? Its actually fairly common to stay at the same uni to do a masters or PhD, so if you did your undergrad degree at Oxford or Cambridge it's not unlikely that you'll end up with 'multiple Oxbridge degrees'. They are two a penny really Grin

MissionItsPossible · 19/12/2017 03:47

"Omg OP, what a rude, nasty cunt. I would have punched her straight in the face and called her a nasty fucking bitch"! Is a perfectly valid response to someone who accidentally nudged you in the supermarket, according to AIBU.

CheapSausagesAndSpam · 19/12/2017 04:15

the one about "All landlords have a right to enter the property!"

Which is ALWAYS touted as truth.

It's not true.

Even if a LL asks you can still say NO.

The ONLY time a LL may enter without your express permission is if there is a fire or flood or similar...and you're not at home to safeguard the property.

CheapSausagesAndSpam · 19/12/2017 04:16

Sooty oh yes! And let's not forget "Claim it on your insurance" and my favourite "Can't you dip into savings?"

BadLad · 19/12/2017 04:24

"No, you don't have to pay for the damage you caused. It was an accident!"

dontbesillyhenry · 19/12/2017 04:33

If someone struggles to get by day to day and an emergency expense comes up they should have saved for a rainy day

ProseccoMamam · 19/12/2017 05:14

That Zara holds every single clothing item for every occasion for every person in the world

Seriously what is it with people on this website and that fucking average-literally-all-other-clothing-shops-sell-this shop

StripySocksAndDocs · 19/12/2017 05:19

lesbians don't like candles

How incredibly random!!

streetlife70s · 19/12/2017 05:30

I once had a row on here with someone who said the operation I had was not possible (sterilisation reversal). Even after I had said multiple times that I had it reversed they kept banging on about that it couldn’t be reversed and my ‘opinion’ on it being reversed flew in the face of medical science. That I was just a rare, ‘lucky’ person if I had somehow managed it.

When I directed poster to clinic set up specifically for the purpose and the surgeon who makes his living out of it I was told, and I quote,

“Sterilisation leaves you infertile but a full hysterectomy doesn’t because of surrogacy” Hmm

I gave up.

YCAWS · 19/12/2017 05:33

Every child who exhibits any kind of naughty behaviour has SEN. And that a person can't have SEN and be an arsehole. The two aren't mutually exclusive

Sparklingbrook · 19/12/2017 06:45

That strangers have to be 'called out' on everything. No minding your own business. If you are a frazzled Mum of a baby and toddler you must spend time policing the supermarket P&C spaces and calling people out rather than just getting on with your shopping and your life.

Everyone can breastfeed. If they can't it's because of lack of support.

All teenage boys are generally up to no good.

BarbaraofSevillle · 19/12/2017 06:49

That everyone's mortgage is their biggest expense by far and if you have any spare money you should overpay it, especially in these times of low interest rates 'as you will save thousands'.

No acknowledgement at all for the thousands of people like us paying under 1% annual interest on their mortgage. Our mortgage interest is about £40 a month and I have various savings account paying up to 5% interest and a Santander 123 account that pays 1.5% on up to £20k, so I would be stupid to pay off my mortgage charging 0.6% interest.

That breakfast is the most important meal of the day.
That if you're dieting and don't eat enough that your body will go into starvation mode.

Flopjustwantscoffee · 19/12/2017 07:01

That if you explain to the police/courts your partner once pushed you they will automatically insist he has supervised contact only with your children. HA. (Not saying that pushing and other assaults is ok, just that some people are very naive about how easy it is to get the authorities to give it any weight)

That I'm lying about my job because I didn't train with the poster's dh at the same University at the same time.
That muscle cannot weigh more than fat as a pound of muscle weighs the same as a pound of fat. I have no idea how their densities compare but it's the logic fail I take issue with on that one

Roussette · 19/12/2017 07:03

That nobody answers the doorbell. Everyone just ignores it because it is rude and invasive to ring a doorbell.

Rubbish. I've never known anyone in RL who doesn't answer the door!

redexpat · 19/12/2017 07:04

That it is illegal to open someone elses post.

That it is illegal to leave a child alone before the age of 10, 12 or any random number.

StealthPolarBear · 19/12/2017 07:06

BTW my job is not rare.

musicposy · 19/12/2017 07:07

notanurse I often see the opposite, that if your adult son beats you, abuses you, steals from you and trashes the house and generally makes your life and that of their siblings hell, you must keep them at home allowing them to do nothing but live off you forever.

However, should your DH leave the toilet seat up you should LTB immmediately. Preferably by kicking him out of the house which is 50% his and changing the locks.
