Thoughts on Jamie Oliver’s house?!

Now you can see Jamie's REAL kitchen! Jools Oliver sends fans into a frenzy with snaps of their VERY palatial £8.9M Grade II listed London home (including a £2K super king bed and a wood-fired oven)

I think it is gorgeous. The Daily Mail readership is divided, some believing that Jamie/Jools lack class, one even quoting the “You can take the boy out of Essex...” saying. I find the reaction baffling. It’s as if they do not appreciate style and good taste when they see it.
Or perhaps they are filled with envy? Who knows.

I would say it's more a reflection of their interior designer's taste than their own. It looks like the set for a Jamie Oliver show so at least the designer has kept it on brand.

FeelingGuiltyAlready · 18/12/2017 20:34

I just wonder when that family will ever feel they have enough money. I feel quite queasy when faced with people who are so happy to flash their cash.

JingsMahBucket · 18/12/2017 20:41

@Willow2017
I think its lovely. I like the original features and all the odds and ends giving it a personal touch.
Yes its advertising her business too but i hate the "you are from working class you should stay there " crap
If any one of the haters who just hate it because its Jamie were offered the house they would snap it up.
You dont have to like him to know he has worked hard and done what he knows best to make his fortune plus help others along the way. Why do people get off on trying to bring someone down who has more than them money wise?

^^ This bears repeating, all of it. It's a lovely home that suits them just fine. People are nitpicking just to tear someone down. The person who criticised them having their plates on open shelves because the plates might dusty? Holy fuck, you're neurotic.

Also, try thinking beyond your own neuroses a bit. They have, what, 6 or 7 kids? Do you think any of those plates even have a chance of getting dusty throughout the day when you count mealtimes and snack times? Also, they probably cook more than you do instead of just leaving things for show in their kitchen. 🙄

To the people confused by standalone bathtubs and where to put shampoo — that's what a stool is for. Think about it.

Anyway, gorgeous house. Cheers to them for having something that suits them instead of caring about nutty whingers.

LizzieSiddal · 18/12/2017 20:43

I agree ThisBigSky.

But I think he's a twat for sharing all of the pics. Give your kids some privacy for goodness sake!

Tinycitrus · 18/12/2017 20:46

It’s a beautiful house. But it should be.

Sparklingbrook · 18/12/2017 20:46

They have, what, 6 or 7 kids?

I think it's 5 isn't it?

MyKingdomForACaramel · 18/12/2017 20:47

I love it - except that bed! Saying that my dream bed is a four poster monstrosity

Weebo · 18/12/2017 20:48

I would say it's more a reflection of their interior designer's taste than their own

Exactly.

I love personally love cosy/cluttered/charming style homes filled with much-loved nick-nacks and things bought over the years.

This look like it all came out of a catalogue yesterday.

Although I admit I find it tough to like anything involving JO. He's a plonker.

Weebo · 18/12/2017 20:50

Ugh - Must read stuff properly before posting.

FeelingGuiltyAlready · 18/12/2017 20:52

I just wonder when this family will ever feel they have enough money? I find this sort of ostentatious wankery rather repellent and it just sends them even further down in my estimation (bet they are kept awake at night worrying about that). The only picture of their house I'd actually like to see is the exterior. The rest of it will have been done a hundred thousand times before. JO's hair dye is RIDICULOUS.

FeelingGuiltyAlready · 18/12/2017 20:53

Argh, sorry for double post. I didn't think my first one had posted.

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 18/12/2017 20:59

Why do they have the Hampstead sign in the kitchen? Peace and kiss in the bedroom?

Very twee.

MarshaBradyo · 18/12/2017 21:00

Why do people get so upset if you don't love a celeb's house. Does it make you think I love it? no then so what. If you don't then you don't.

There are other far better, more beautiful houses worth as much or less or more that make me think I love it.

glitterlips1 · 18/12/2017 21:01

Hmm too much bric a brac. I don't hate it but don't love it, too much clutter and looks a little grubby. The photo with the baby perched on the edge of the table makes me shudder.

Sparklingbrook · 18/12/2017 21:03

I wondered that Marsha. anyone who doesn't love it must be insanely jealous presumably. Hmm Grin

It seems only enthusing is permitted.

MarshaBradyo · 18/12/2017 21:06

I know Sparkling, weird. It's just some people none of us know who've put their house in some publication. It's not mandatory to be effusive

drbrenner · 18/12/2017 21:09

the conspicuous lack of books is a bit concerning

Hahaha- only on Mumsnet Grin
Did it not occur to you that maybe the books were out of sight so as not to appear too cluttered?

BrizzleDrizzle · 18/12/2017 21:17

It's a lovely home that suits them just fine.

As far as we know it is, alternatively it could be a lovely home that suits the public image that they want to give and actually not what really suits them at all.

BerylStreep · 18/12/2017 21:20

Missing the point massively, but £2K for a super-king bed really isn't that much. IIRC ours was £4K several years ago

BrizzleDrizzle · 18/12/2017 21:20

this is the outside I think, unless he's moved house

JingsMahBucket · 18/12/2017 21:31

@Sparklingbrook, yes you're right. They have five. Still an ass load of kids though.

And most people don't care if others don't like their house. It's the petty tearing down of people that constantly happens that starts to grate. It's never just, "It's not to my taste." Instead it's, "Their floor looks grubby. Their plates must get dusty." WTAF?

Sparklingbrook · 18/12/2017 21:32

Well if you do insist on posting pictures of your house online people might have an opinion.

HandbagCrazy · 18/12/2017 21:43

How depressing that there are so many bitchy comments here (and presumably under the article).

Of course it isn't to everyone's taste - but it is to theirs and that's what matters.

I also think it's predictably crap of the daily fail to go to someone's social media and try and create an article from it - all this but it's not as though anyone has done any actual journalism or that's its done to get publicity for anything, just a general "normal lad has done well, let's all go and have a gawp."

LizzieSiddal · 18/12/2017 21:49

Handbag you do realise that "celebs" put things on their instagram precisely in the hope that other media outlets will pick it up and publish it to a wider audience?

The Olivers WANT people to "have a gawp".

Sparklingbrook · 18/12/2017 21:50

It's not worth getting depressed over, it's just people's opinions on a a sleb's house.
