Thoughts on Jamie Oliver’s house?!

Now you can see Jamie's REAL kitchen! Jools Oliver sends fans into a frenzy with snaps of their VERY palatial £8.9M Grade II listed London home (including a £2K super king bed and a wood-fired oven)

I think it is gorgeous. The Daily Mail readership is divided, some believing that Jamie/Jools lack class, one even quoting the “You can take the boy out of Essex...” saying. I find the reaction baffling. It’s as if they do not appreciate style and good taste when they see it.
Or perhaps they are filled with envy? Who knows.

They’ve got my coloured lights!

OneOfTheGrundys · 18/12/2017 18:18

I like the look of the floorboard but they do look a bit dirty? Even if they are not?
That child’s bed is awesome though.

Mrsmadevans · 18/12/2017 18:20

Rosewhitetips l have sent it to DS and my friends they will be so interested and I think they will love it too ,it's beautiful but l am not suprised. I think Jools has very good taste.

ToadOfSadness · 18/12/2017 18:22

How can such an expensive house be decorated with such crappy looking furniture, the bed is hideous and the plastic looking white table/washstand thing looks cheap?

Still, I never rated him as a chef either, and he now has really shit hair to match the furnishings.

ShiftyMcGifty · 18/12/2017 18:23

Oh dear god, that’s so incredibly staged and art directed to death. Then, all the charming and expensive vintage toys and antiques were carefully carried to the white van parked outside before some little kids attempted to actually play with the bloody things.

StripySocksAndDocs · 18/12/2017 18:26

It's nice. Though it is very Instagram 'Bohemian'. In other words it's unlikely it's naturally like that nor does it reflect the personalities of the family. (Aka an interior designer creation.)

That said I was told to live there you'd not have to force me. But I had to be married to JO to live there you would.

FucksakeCuntingFuckingTwats · 18/12/2017 18:29

The only thing that I'm shocked by the most is the baby sitting on that bumble type seat on the edge of the table.

I like the bathroom and bedroom. Don't like the family room or kitchen.

TheVanguardSix · 18/12/2017 18:29

His hair is just killing me.
The house is great! It's a bit much but it's beautiful. Pretentious as fuck but nice.
The other half and all that.

I've got the exact same kitchen floor. It looks all rustic and shabby chic in his house, whereas in mine, the same exact floor looks like shit. Grin

The photo of the kid in private school uniform sitting at the mini Steinway is unacceptable. It just pisses me off, it's so pretentious.

Katedotness1963 · 18/12/2017 18:30

Not to my taste, I prefer more a more cosy house. It seems a bit designer rather than real people taste?

Puzzledandpissedoff · 18/12/2017 18:32

All credit to them for what they've achieved, but frankly the house makes me want to call for a skip for all that clutter

And what's with that later kitchen photo, where it talks about filming? Why are all the bottles and jars on what looks like a huge, open metal rack where they'll get covered in dust? What's wrong with cupboards for heaven's sake??

Wincarnis · 18/12/2017 18:35

it looks grubby and messy, not worth bragging about.

CauliflowerSqueeze · 18/12/2017 18:37

I think it’s really lovely!
I’d love to have a Jamie Oliver meal every evening!

His hair is too dark for his colouring though.

Autumnskiesarelovely · 18/12/2017 18:39

It kind of makes me feel feel better about my house! It’s just as nice and not 8.9 million!

It’s a perfectly nice house though, I like that they have a bit of tat around, and don’t seem to have called in designers. Although I don’t understand half carpets with the stool and bed half on carpet half on wooden floor. Or the bed. But they look happy in it so good for them.

Jux · 18/12/2017 18:46

I do want that kitchen. I only have one proper wall in mine and the sink is up against it so no chance of hanging saucepans there. I could hang a metal mesh thing from the ceiling and then put everything on meathooks, but dh won't let me Sad

BrizzleDrizzle · 18/12/2017 18:49

I've seen far worse, I prefer it to footballer's houses on the whole. That picture of the baby in the bath though, why on earth would they do that?!

Hebenon · 18/12/2017 18:52

Some of it is quite nice. I like the kitchen. The bedroom and bathroom are beyond awful, though. That bed is horrible.

user1andonly · 18/12/2017 18:55

I don't like the bed but that's just my personal taste.

Worried about the baby in the chair thing balanced on the edge of the table!

Apart from that it's lovely, especially the nursery and the garden Grin

Inertia · 18/12/2017 19:00

I like the treehouse bed, I'd have loved a cool bed when I was that age.

Not keen on the artfully cluttered look myself, especially in a kitchen- can't understand why people have open shelving / plates out on display which are just going to get covered in dust and grease. And I'm not a fan of having the bottoms of pans on show (admittedly theirs look clean and matching).

SoupDragon · 18/12/2017 19:01

It looks like an actual home.

TheNoseyProject · 18/12/2017 19:03

Well it’s gorgeous! Not my style aka if I had that money I wouldn’t do that but I do think it’s lovely. So much nicer than all the crib style houses celebs trot out in hello and other mags where everything in sight has been gilded!

LipstickHandbagCoffee · 18/12/2017 19:06

Looks very family orientated and lived in (dont mean that bad) with a lot of laughter

frumpety · 18/12/2017 19:07

I like the lights in the kitchen , the photo of the daughter in the bath not so much , I saw it and it just didn't quite sit right with me . How old is she ?

Ohyesiam · 18/12/2017 19:08

Too much stuff in there for me.
But it looks warm and friendly, except for the bed.
I met JO, and he was really warm and kind all day, despite endless hold ups, hassles and dead ends. I suppose those are not fashionable qualities, but it made me like him.
I've never actually seen him on telly.

endehors · 18/12/2017 19:08

It's lovely. Very tasteful. The children's playroom area is very on trend, I recognise a lot of nice brands from toy boutiques, and a Ferm living lamp.

stilltheykeepcoming · 18/12/2017 19:11

I like it, it looks lived in and a proper family home for children.
