Thoughts on Jamie Oliver’s house?!

Now you can see Jamie's REAL kitchen! Jools Oliver sends fans into a frenzy with snaps of their VERY palatial £8.9M Grade II listed London home (including a £2K super king bed and a wood-fired oven)

I think it is gorgeous. The Daily Mail readership is divided, some believing that Jamie/Jools lack class, one even quoting the “You can take the boy out of Essex...” saying. I find the reaction baffling. It’s as if they do not appreciate style and good taste when they see it.
Or perhaps they are filled with envy? Who knows.

expat and notagainyoda can I be in your gang??

danTDM · 18/12/2017 17:51

I love it!

But... not keen on those prints in frames saying 'kiss' and 'love' I hate things like that. I think they're in the fireplace in the bedroom.

I saw a lot of plastic tat! The toy kitchens, cars, spinning tops etc. I thought it looked like a lovely, London, family home.

She's obvs proud of it!

Silverthorn · 18/12/2017 17:53

How many toy kitchens???
Grin
The wood stove has caught fire at some point.
Not to my taste really, looks cold.

His garden has actually featured often on one of his programs - I'm not sure of the program but it's the one where the recipe appears on a giant recipe page on screen. if anyone knows the one.

Didn't realise it was his own garden, it's lovely.

danTDM · 18/12/2017 17:54

Yes, the garden is stunning

AJPTaylor · 18/12/2017 17:54

Good for them.

gryffen · 18/12/2017 17:58

Beautiful house but i have met JO and he was a tosser (worked door security at the main event).

Give him his dues though, his food works, he worked his way up and earned every penny though experience and product placement.

RestingGrinchFace · 18/12/2017 17:59

I get their point. It's not actually all that bad but it does comes across as terribly try hard-the conspicuous lack of books is a bit concerning considering that there are children growing up in that house but apart from that it really is perfectly ok. I wouldn't decorate my own house that way but I wouldn't feel like dashing my brains out against the fairy light lantern strung mantlepice either.

TherealDeeBliss · 18/12/2017 17:59

I thought it was lovely! But then I'm from Essex so according to that paper it's right up my street! Grin

RoseWhiteTips · 18/12/2017 18:05

It’s quite bohemian in style. That is what I love about it. I think it is tasteful and delightful. Lots more on Jools’s Instagram.

I can't allow myself an opinion as I have an ever expaning dislike for hearing anything about the lives of the excessively rich. It was made in Chelsea and Tamara's world wot dunnit.

Mrsmadevans · 18/12/2017 18:07

love it! Thank you op

RoseWhiteTips · 18/12/2017 18:07

I see books! But I do not see grey or the slavish Scandi look. Now that IS shivery. Brrr

I like Jamie Oliver but find jools annoying, don't like his kids names and don't like the choice of decor. I really don't get why everybody hates him.

NameChanger22 · 18/12/2017 18:09

Its a beautiful house, not in the least bit 'Essex'. It don't think the photography of it does it justice though.

NameChanger22 · 18/12/2017 18:12

I have a friend who met JO and also thought he was a tosser, she was a massive fan of his until then and was very disappointed. I think he comes across as quite arrogant on TV. Some of his recipes are amazing though.

Loonoonow · 18/12/2017 18:12

It's not to my taste, a bit too cluttered and retro for me. But it's far from flash. But then I like lots of MN decor no-nos - like my lovely crushed velvet settees. They ARE flashy and I love them.

LizzieSiddal · 18/12/2017 18:12

What I don't understand is why the pair of them would put their house out there for everyone to see.

They don't need the money, they don't need the exposure, why? Confused

They should be thinking about their Dc's security and privacy imo.

Jux · 18/12/2017 18:14

I hate free standing baths. Where do you put your shampoo so you can get it without getting out? Where do I rest my book? And my tea?

We had a cast iron roll top bath when we moved in. We don't any more. Grin

That is a dead room. IMO

Namechangetempissue · 18/12/2017 18:16

It's a bit "try hard" for me and I don't think it looks cosy or homely at all. I HATE the dark room with the Elvis sign, it's like a cave. I do actually like Jools Oliver though and she was very nice when we met at a mutual friends. We just haven't got the same taste in decor!

ElfOneself · 18/12/2017 18:17

I absolutely love it, i think its beautiful and homely. I'm not a fan of the modern, clean lines everything hidden look. They have a lot of stuff out, but thats because all of it is nice.

NameChanger22 · 18/12/2017 18:17

That room looks like a lot of rich people's houses - too much money and not enough taste.
