Thoughts on Jamie Oliver’s house?!

Now you can see Jamie's REAL kitchen! Jools Oliver sends fans into a frenzy with snaps of their VERY palatial £8.9M Grade II listed London home (including a £2K super king bed and a wood-fired oven)

I think it is gorgeous. The Daily Mail readership is divided, some believing that Jamie/Jools lack class, one even quoting the “You can take the boy out of Essex...” saying. I find the reaction baffling. It’s as if they do not appreciate style and good taste when they see it.
Or perhaps they are filled with envy? Who knows.

I love the kitchen and coloured lights above the kitchen table. The large bed is not to my taste, too ornate for me. I like the building too.

I also enjoy JO's recipes.

RoseWhiteTips · 18/12/2017 19:12

To the person who said the interior looked “grubby” - oh perlease!!!

the photo of the daughter in the bath not so much , I saw it and it just didn't quite sit right with me

You can only see her head. There's no clue as to whether she's actually bathing or just sitting in the tub.

BarbaraOcumbungles · 18/12/2017 19:17

I’d guess anyone who thinks JO’s house looks grubby lives in one of those soulless white box type homes and spends their life up to their elbows in bleach.

WhatALoadOfOldBollocks · 18/12/2017 19:24

It's not all to my taste but I think it has a really lovely feel to it. Very warm and homely.

I hate free standing baths
So do I and I've never figured out how they became so popular. As you say, there's nowhere to put anything, plus the water will splash out everywhere surely. The worst are free-standing baths with bath shower miver taps. I mean, how the hell are you supposed to shower in them?! Can't have a screen, and shower curtains all the way round is a recipe for cling.

frumpety · 18/12/2017 19:24

Soup , I just didn't like the shot , its all a bit model like , look of surprise , open mouth , like I say just didn't quite sit right with me .

Lovejoyfull · 18/12/2017 19:24

The bones of the house are beautiful but they haven’t done it justice, too much clutter. It looks ok but lived in. When you have as much space and hired help as they have there really is no excuse. Now I love the bed but it does not sit well with that rug, the same with the bathroom, beautiful sink and bath but thoughtlessly placed. I think Jools likes the country/boho/vintage look but it doesn’t really work in such a grand house. It looks like they spent a lot of money in places like the hand painted wallpaper but cheap looking tables. It only made the papers as her PR team sent it to push her clothing sales

Willow2017 · 18/12/2017 19:25

I think its lovely. I like the original features and all the odds and ends giving it a personal touch.
Yes its advertising her business too but i hate the "you are from working class you should stay there " crap
If any one of the haters who just hate it because its Jamie were offered the house they would snap it up.
You dont have to like him to know he has worked hard and done what he knows best to make his fortune plus help others along the way. Why do people get off on trying to bring someone down who has more than them money wise?

Littlelambpeep · 18/12/2017 19:26

It is beautiful ..love it

Raisedbyguineapigs · 18/12/2017 19:32

I like it. The only think I didn't like was the bed. I have a superkingsize bed. It's Shaker style and was about 1/5 of the price of theirs. It would have suited their house much more Grin
The DM know no one reads their crappy poorly written articles. They just scroll down to the comments to see how vile people are in the comments section and then try to outdo them.

Well that black smoke up the wall doesn’t look too clean.

That’s it exactly. The juxtaposition of period features and very modern quirky touches works fantastically well.

I thought it looked cold to be honest, like I would feel cold being in there and dusty because there is so much stuff everywhere.

Oh honestly! It adds to the charm. Should they have protected the wall with some sort of chemical solution!?

I spotted that. Not true at all. It's very clean bohemian style I must say Grin

Sparklingbrook · 18/12/2017 19:38

It's too cluttered, and not v cosy. And YY to looking cold.

Ericaequites · 18/12/2017 19:40

Some people accumulate very little tat. What suprises me is any house without bookcases.

RoseWhiteTips · 18/12/2017 19:41

insomniac123

Dusty!? Erm... I reckon they can afford to pay for people to carry out the onerous task of dusting. Do you really think the main concern, when turning an empty shell into a real home, is how much dusting it will all
involve?

OP posts:
ZigZagandDustin · 18/12/2017 19:42

It's really beautiful. Not many people even with all the money in the world, manage to create something so unique and varied.

RoseWhiteTips · 18/12/2017 19:43

How paradoxical. The lack of “clutter” is usually what makes a place cold.

It's ok. My house is nicer. But as it isn't located in Hampstead, or indeed anywhere in London, it didn't cost even one million!

mrsBeverleyGoldberg · 18/12/2017 19:47

I don't like it when celebrities put photos of their dcs in any type of public media. I think their dcs have a right to privacy.

RoseWhiteTips · 18/12/2017 19:49

Hadtobloodynamechange

Only “ok”!? Damned with faint praise.
Do you have pics of your much nicer house?! It would be fun to see them.
