(THREAD) 10 Cripplingly Obvious Facts About Donald Trump Every American Must Accept
#1 Trump broke with decades of tradition by hiding his tax returns from voters because there are things in those returns that would sink him legally and politically.
#2 Appointing a Supreme Court Justice isn't an "accomplishment" for Trump or any president—even less so when Republicans stole the seat and then handed Trump a menu of approved judges as though he were a toddler.
He chose Gorsuch because there was an opening and he was told to.
#3 The answer to the question "Why won't Republicans stand up to Trump?" isn't that they want to pass legislation. They could easily do that with Trump successors Pence or Ryan. No—it's Trump's repeated threats to splinter the GOP if it crosses him. Trump holds the GOP hostage.
#4 Trump has held the Republicans hostage from Day 1. His floating of "Trump TV" was a threat of what the GOP would face if it ousted him; his floating of an independent presidential run was a threat. Him tweeting and speaking against top Republicans is a threat. He's a mob boss.
#5 Trump believes in nothing. He has no "political agenda"; there are no campaign promises he could "keep" because his campaign "agenda" was an incoherent mash of conflicting principles, statements, and policies. He'll give money and power to those who help him hold power—period.
#6 Everyone who was—or is—in charge of the Clinton and Trump investigations in Congress, at DOJ, and in the FBI is a lifelong Republican. Sessions, Rosenstein, Mueller, Comey, Wray, Burr, Conaway, Grassley, Gowdy—everyone. There is no secret Democratic plot behind the probes.
#7 Trump is a liar and a criminal. It's proven that he perjured himself hundreds of times about adultery under civil deposition—which Clinton was impeached for. And top attorneys agree he's publicly committed a "prima facie" Obstruction of Justice—which Clinton was impeached for.
#8 The "people" did not vote Trump into office—and any media report that says something like "this is why America voted for Trump" or "Trump won with American voters" is false.
America voted for Clinton; Clinton won with American voters. The Electoral College made Trump.
#9 Trump is now (and will historically be considered) the worst president in US history—on the basis of his illegal conduct, unpresidential bearing, lack of accomplishments, dangerous warmongering, intentional fracturing of the American spirit, and conspicuous personal stupidity.
#10 We're witnessing the end of the Republican Party—in slow motion. If the GOP sticks with Trump, it implodes—no matter how hard it bends the rule of law to protect him—if and when it's revealed he's a traitor to America. But if it abandons him, he takes half the GOP with him.
BONUS: The media helped make Trump—and still covers him in a way that ensures he keeps power. Its horse-race obsession; grant of airtime to non-news; willingness to focus on rhetoric rather than action; lack of familiarity with the issues; and overuse of pundits props Trump up.
