To go veggan?

Or will I be detested by vegetarians, vegans and carnivores?

IME many vegans can take a bit of an all or nothing stance, but I do think I would miss avocado and egg on toast. What do people think?

As I have already said Butchy, robust responses are fine. I don’t even mind the piss being ripped out of me if there is a) a valid point and b) even if there isn’t a valid point, if it is funny (even at my expense!) I will let it go.

However, some posts here fall into neither category. They do not respond to my question and they are just downright abusive and rude. I don’t like saying that, because it makes me sound dour and prim and I’m not like that at all. OP, you hypocritical cunt, is fine. OP, fuck off, no one gives a snit, just fucking die, is not fine.

Obviously the two above serve as examples.

At any rate, thanks for your thoughts.

Reallytired17 · 15/12/2017 21:43

Snit? Shit, obviously.

Who said just fucking die???!!!

MiltonTheCockroach · 15/12/2017 21:44

I'm vegan and I do miss a fried egg sandwich when I'm hungover but if I decided to go back to eating eggs I'd just say I generally followed a plant-based diet but occasionally ate egg.

Veggan sounds as silly as Beegan (plant-based but eats honey).

StickThatInYourPipe · 15/12/2017 21:44

Can you please quote where someone told you to ‘just fucking die’.

Surely telling you no one cares about you eating eggs and being vegan does answer your question? I would read that as YANBU to do so surely?

Sisinisawa · 15/12/2017 21:46

It's not an egg eating vegan as there's no such thing.
It's a dairy and honey avoiding vegetarian.
Vegans don't eat animal products of any kind.

But op you eat what you want! We all make our own choices.

Reallytired17 · 15/12/2017 21:47

Milton, I haven’t heard Beegan. It does sound silly. Veggan however, I like, because of the word ‘egg’ in the middle Grin

Now, are cockroaches vegan?

OP, fuck off, no one gives a snit, just fucking die, is not fine.

Who told you to just fucking die?

BarbaraofSevillle · 15/12/2017 21:47

I'm going to be a vacon. Tell everyone I'm vegan but eat bacon because, well who can live without bacon?

But seriously, I can see the logic in being vegan except for eggs from your own very pampered hens, but why give it a special name? Which is more important, ethics, or a big I'm special' badge?

Worriedrose · 15/12/2017 21:48

And sizeofalentil
I admire you. But I just wouldn't say you are a vegan!!!! I would say you were a vegetarian, because if you got a goat and used the milk that would be fab. But you wouldn't be a vegan that only drank your (correct use of) goats milk.
You would just be a vegetarian
I'm not sure why that's so hard to understand (I am not saying this is an aggressive way)

Reallytired17 · 15/12/2017 21:48

Obviously, the two above serve as examples

See, it says that. Right there on my post. Look. Just above.

ButchyRestingFace · 15/12/2017 21:50

I'm going to be a vacon. Tell everyone I'm vegan but eat bacon because, well who can live without bacon?

I'm going to follow in my little cousin's footsteps and be an munter-con.

Basically, if the animal is not an aesthetically attractive species, it's okay to eat.

Here's lookin' at you, chicken licken...

BonnieF · 15/12/2017 21:50

Eat what you want. Your diet & lifestyle choices are your business.

I respectfully ask that you extend the same courtesy to mine.

UserEleventyBillion · 15/12/2017 21:50

Dairy free vegetarian is easier to understand and won't muddy the waters so much. This is helpful in combating stories such as how Auntie Ethel's dog groomer's daughter is vegetarian but eats bacon so obviously all veggies can.

I'm waiting for an egg free veggie trend to rename it vilkans. It sounds like a star trek species. Grin

PinkAvocado · 15/12/2017 21:51

I think calling yourself vegan or veggan or anything sort of vegan whilst eating eggs is silly. Vegans try not to eat or wear or use anything from animals as far as possible and choosing to still eat eggs because you like them, doesn’t seem to be in keeping with that. No one will detest you but it’s unecessary to call yourself something and not actually be it. Why bother? Just don’t eat dairy and honey without attaching an incorrect label. (Reminds me of a friend who was vegetarian but ate chicken every now and again-so not vegetarian!).

MsJaneAusten · 15/12/2017 21:52

I think the ‘who gives a shit?’ comments we’re actually trying to be supportive. As in, it’s your life, eat what you like.

For what it’s worth, I’ve been cutting out dairy for the last few months and intend to go almost fully vegan in January... except that I’ll eat eggs that come direct from my friend’s hens as I know how they’ve been treated. If anyone asks though, I’ll just say “I try not to eat meat products” rather than labelling it iyswim.

I’ll also use the toiletries and make up that I already own but only replace them with vegan products.

DianaPrincessOfThemyscira · 15/12/2017 21:53

Honestly, I really couldn’t care less what other people do or don’t eat. Do what you like.

MsJaneAusten · 15/12/2017 21:54

Oh ffs. Were. My phone regularly makes me look stupid. I bet the original Jane Austen did not have this problem.

MiltonTheCockroach · 15/12/2017 21:54

Now, are cockroaches vegan?

I may have ingested some shed human skin and a few scabs this morning but apart from that it's lentils and tofu all the way Grin

MrsSquiggler · 15/12/2017 21:57

If you only eat eggs from your own chickens or whatever but eat vegan when you go out, it's just so much easier to say to the serving staff that you're vegan. Rather than 'I'm vegetarian and I don't eat dairy products or honey or any eggs that you serve'. I don't see the issue with that?

Reallytired17 · 15/12/2017 21:57

I googled —saddo—-

“They (roaches) are commonly depicted as dirty pests though the great majority of,species are inoffensive”

(((Milton)))

OP posts:
sizeofalentil · 15/12/2017 21:59

Worriedrose - I'm not a vegan, I'm a veggan Grin. I didn't say I didn't understand what a vegan is, I used that wording because of what I was replying to (the op's original post, not the weirdly hysterical reactions to a new word people didn't like).

If anyone asks I say I eat mainly vegan but have eggs when I fancy it, for ease of explanation. Otherwise, it's too long and boring to explain what I do and don't eat, if we are going to someone's house or something. People in the real world tend not to care what I eat so rarely tell them.

I welcome the word veggan because it's a shorthand for the stricter type of vegetarian diet I prefer. In the same way some people are pescatarian. Ovo vegetarian is too much of a mouthful.

I quite liked beegan too, tbh. Wink

MiltonTheCockroach · 15/12/2017 22:01

“They (roaches) are commonly depicted as dirty pests though the great majority of,species are inoffensive”

Proof right there in writing that I'm inoffensive (MN take note).

Actually, as a roach, I think I might be better described as a freegan

speakout · 15/12/2017 22:05

Do we even care OP.

SilentlyScreamingAgain · 15/12/2017 22:05

I think that if you wanted to eat eggs, it would be a more morally pure stance to buy the eggs from the supermarket and keep cocks.

(I don't care what you eat.)
