“On her own” Eddie? It’s a family wedding and they aren’t short of help. Pretty sure she’ll be completely fine.

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 15/12/2017 17:27

elton ooh you are evil Grin

maddiemookins16mum · 15/12/2017 17:27

The wedding could be at 11am, kick off for the footie at 5.30pm. He can easily get a chopper to Wembley so never fear OP.

AuldHeathen · 15/12/2017 17:34

Maybe he‘s discovered he hates football and is glad he‘s got an excuse! I imagine the family has lots of prior engagements so something‘s got to slide.

PinkTiger · 15/12/2017 17:41

Forget about William's commitment - it's a stupid date to pick for a wedding because a lot of people are die hard football fans.

A friend went to a wedding in similar circumstances (wedding on day of major sporting event of national interest) and said that some of the behaviour was horrendous. Men in church listening to the commentary on a radio earpiece type stuff.

LuluJakey1 · 15/12/2017 17:43

Flowerpot Have I missed something? When did MM deacribe herself as an ex-stripper? And is it true?

A lot of people couldn't care less about football.

OMG how utterly cringe-making. So my idea was good then? Grin

CarrieBlue · 15/12/2017 17:52

I’d be more worried about police commitments and security for two potential terror targets on the same day than who hands out a trophy to multimillionaires

LookingForwardToChristmas · 15/12/2017 17:57

Whilst I am certain William will be at Harry’s wedding, it hasn’t been announced that he will be so maybe you are being presumptuous. The times haven’t been announced yet either, so maybe he can do both as last year the FA Cup was in the evening.

Also, since his wife will have recently have given birth, maybe he will be on paternity or parental leave and except from any of this worry! Grin

LookingForwardToChristmas · 15/12/2017 17:57

*excempt not except

JacquesHammer · 15/12/2017 17:58

That's dick behaviour, not football fan behaviour. I'm a massive rugby and football fan. I can also observe social niceties perfectly well.

ScreamingValenta · 15/12/2017 18:01

This is great news for those of us who aren't interested in either football or the wedding - 19th May can now be ear-marked for that long-delayed visit to a normally too-busy tourist attraction, such as a theme park or show Smile.

ForalltheSaints · 15/12/2017 18:05

Prince William is an Aston Villa supporter. Very little chance of them being there, so I am sure someone else can present the trophy. Perhaps Sir Bobby Charlton or one of the other living 1966 World Cup winners, assuming Man U don't get there.

I expect the wedding will be late morning so that it does not clash.

InsomniacAnonymous · 15/12/2017 18:10

I, for one, would like to thank you very much for this thread, PinkJeggings. I'm a bugger for worrying about trivialities, but compared to you I feel very nearly almost normal.

WhiskyTangoFoxtrot · 15/12/2017 18:16

Actually, I think Prince William might have set a useful precedent by having a shag break between the formal reception and the evening party.

Ms Markle and Prince Harry can have a lengthy break for the same purpose. With such a new baby, perhaps Prince William could nip out for the footie, even if he only made if for the second half.

AnnieAnoniMouse · 15/12/2017 18:16

In all seriousness, I think it’s strange that they (they as in ‘those making the decision’, not Harry & Meghan) have chosen that date.

The FA Cup is a pretty big day on the national calendar (whether people on here agree or not) it just seems like a daft idea. Having the wedding the same day will cause some issues. Issues well beyond who presents the trophy.

Sadly, FA Cup weekend, domestic abuse rates soar. This will potentially add fuel to the fire in many homes with him ‘Fed up of ‘her indoors’ going on about an effing wedding’ etc.

Security will already be stretched for the FA Cup without stretching it further on crowd control for the wedding.

Not bad for the rest of us though...two birds, one stone & plenty of notice to get the drinks & snacks in.

SquirmOfEels · 15/12/2017 18:18

"I’d be more worried about police commitments and security for two potential terror targets on the same day"

Markle/Wales do is within the secure perimeter of Windsor Castle. It'll be way less complex to police than a London wedding with procession down TheMall

eddiemairswife · 15/12/2017 18:22

Kate will probably be on her own, because everyone else will be watching the footie or getting drunk or possibly both. Except the Queen who is quite abstemious, probably because of the examples of her mother and sister.

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 15/12/2017 18:23

AnnieAnoniMouse I know very few people who are interested in the FAcup other than a passing interest and I know a lot of 'sporty' people.

There could be numerous reasons as to why this date was chosen and not others.

If a football match causes more incidences of DV then it is that culture that needs to be looked at then rather than use it as a reason for not having a wedding.

SPNWinchesterGirl · 15/12/2017 18:24

Couldn't care less about football. Just because he usually presents the trophy doesn't mean he had confirmed he would this time.

I was a little Hmm about the date as soon as I saw it though. It's the anniversary of Anne Boleyn's execution. Major date for Tudor history fans and just seemed a bit off at first glance.

BattleaxeGalactica · 15/12/2017 18:29

Ha!

I was all ready to put the boot in about William showing us yet again what an entitled little muppet he is but I can't fault him on this one. Of course he should be at his brother's wedding. Not like the FA are going to be short of pompous clowns lining up to present the trophy in his absence.

Lweji · 15/12/2017 18:32

it's a stupid date to pick for a wedding because a lot of people are die hard football fans.

What do you mean?

It has a Royal Wedding for the ladies and a football match for the gentlemen.
And if you're both a lady and a gentleman, you're into a double win. With any luck Trump will also be impeached and some people could be having a hat trick celebration.
If you are neither, then you have Netflix, I suppose.

ComedyBoobs · 15/12/2017 18:33

It's only a game.

Lweji · 15/12/2017 18:33

Kate will probably be on her own, because everyone else will be watching the footie or getting drunk or possibly both. Except the Queen who is quite abstemious, probably because of the examples of her mother and sister.

Now I have this image of a bored Kate breastfeeding the new baby alone at a table, while the Queen has a nap at the corner of the room.
