they want the wedding done as quickly as possible so that Prince Phillip and the Queen can attend. the former is particularly frail. Once all other things have been considered in terms of planning, security, VIP guests, venue etc - this is probably the first available weekend.
it does seem to be a bit odd security wise having two such big events on the same day, but agree with p poster that Windsor Castle is secure and relatively easy to police.
the hotels in the area will be loving it - big business for that neck of the woods.

FaveNumberIs2 · 16/12/2017 18:19

What the hell has it got to do with anyone, particularly you?

Omg, look! The head of Sainsbury’s has ordered his Christmas turkey from Tesco because it’s cheaper!!!!

Ffs, get a grip.

SheGotBetteDavisEyes · 16/12/2017 18:21

One line AIBUs with minimal information so the OP gets to string out a pointless, clickbaity AIBU are annoying.

BattleaxeGalactica · 16/12/2017 18:33

It depends if William is playing in the final I think

Well if he can blag himself a part in Star Wars... Wink

ForalltheSaints · 16/12/2017 18:35

It depends if William is playing in the final I think knowing how frail Arsenal's defence can be, maybe Arsene Wenger might give him a call!

Difficult to choose a date that avoids bank holidays, Trooping the Colour, Royal Ascot, Henley, or is too near to the expected date of the Duchess of Cambridge's third child. If they had chosen April 28 which is probably the other alternative, it would have clashed with Ed Balls Day, and you can imagine the reaction then.

BarbaraofSevillle · 16/12/2017 18:44

Ed Balls Day? Confused

But I had rather lost track of what he was up to since he stopped being my MP and racking up speeding tickets on the motorway between his constiuency and that of his DW.

Maireadplastic · 16/12/2017 19:40

I love football and, despite my roots, love a Royal Wedding (which is why I have capitalized the phrase) but this is bonkers.

Fagzilla · 16/12/2017 19:42

Oh ffs! Is that all you’ve got to worry about OP. That’s probably the only date they could have come up with that fits in with the majority of the royal family. Personally, I don’t care a toss about the football, or the fkin parasitic royals.

eddiemairswife · 16/12/2017 19:51

I shall watch the wedding. I shall enjoy seeing all the guests and what they are wearing. I never watch football, I have no interest in it whatsoever.

PinkJeggings · 17/12/2017 00:36

Is OFDOD a personal attack?

Why did you tell me to fuck off, @gingergenius? Have you had a bad day? Confused

OP posts:
Lweji · 17/12/2017 08:38

Don't worry about it. It must be one of those sad people who don't read the fucking threads and then come up with crap.
Or a goady tucker.

Lweji · 17/12/2017 08:38

Goady fucker - obviously

CR7987 · 17/12/2017 08:41

I have a feeling he will attend both. The wedding will be early and the Final is not until 5.30. That's what Royal's do.

I reckon the FA will get over it... completely bonkers 😂

Butterymuffin · 17/12/2017 12:18

Of course he won't do both. This is one year off when he's been there every other time and will be there in the future. If
Kate was giving birth on that date, would people still expect William to go to the cup final because he'd committed to it?

Lweji · 17/12/2017 13:08

If Kate was giving birth on that date, would people still expect William to go to the cup final because he'd committed to it?

Yes. And then he'd do the baby gesture when handing out the trophy. It's the done thing in football.

PinkTiger · 17/12/2017 14:26

Lweji

it's a stupid date to pick for a wedding because a lot of people are die hard football fans.

What do you mean?

What I meant was that because some people (quite a lot of men) are obsessed with football it is a bad idea from the couples perspective (especially the bride as it's "her big day") to choose the same day as a big football event - because it means a reasonable chunk of the guests are likely to be distracted and behave badly.

The example I gave above of a friend who was at a wedding where men were in the congregation actually in church listening to the commentary on ear pieces.

It applies to any major sporting event of national interest - I've seen similar bad behaviour at receptions - England winning at rugby causing people to be sneaking off within the hotel to find a TV and then getting far more rowdy and drunk that you'd expect at a wedding.

PinkTiger · 17/12/2017 14:29

And before anyone says that H & W would have a different class of guest who know how to behave, the commentary in church wedding was a very upper class Tatler type affair.

This place is getting more utterly bonkers every day. How can anyone get up the enthusiasm to have an opinion about this one way or the other? It's just so utterly irrelevant.

derxa · 17/12/2017 16:13

He played football at Eton.
