Not impressed!!

Personally, I think they should change the date as May 19th is my birthday and I don't want no fucker overshadowing me.

Whizbang · 15/12/2017 14:43

Spongers!! They are spongers, not sponges!

AdoraBell · 15/12/2017 14:43

Oh yeah OP coz football is the most important thing and no one can miss a match, ever, for any reason.

PinkJeggings · 15/12/2017 14:44

Oh my life. I will say this again because perhaps some people missed it the first two times: I am NOT saying that William should miss the wedding. I have never said or alluded to that. I AM saying that May 19th should never have been on the table as a 'possible date' in the first place.

Hopefully I won't have to say it again!

And yes, I am being serious. Perhaps I just have a greater sense of responsibility and not wanting to let people down? Confused

I am not even a football fan and I could t care less about the FA cup. But prince William is the President of the FA and as such normally attends the final and presents the winners with the Cup

As a football fan and someone who gives a shit about football, I can confidently say that I speak for all our people when I say we really don't mind. To be fair if you've won the FA cup you don't care if Doris from the corner shop presents the trophy.

KurriKurri · 15/12/2017 14:45

I doubt William or Harry had a lot of say in choosing the date - it will have been decided by the powers that be.

It would be amusing if guests at the wedding have secret mini radios plugged into their ears so they can listen to the football though Grin

Viviennemary · 15/12/2017 14:46

I'm a realist. She is an extremely unpopular choice amongst the British people according to recent polls.

PinkJeggings · 15/12/2017 14:46

At last there's one! Thank you @Sparks46th Xmas Grin Flowers

babybythesea · 15/12/2017 14:46

I'm a huge footie fan. I care not a tiny tiny bit who presents the trophy. I just want to watch the match.
If the team managers and/or key players are invited to the wedding and accept, then I'll moan.
But I really don't give a shit who hands over the trophy. And this way, I have a choice of things to watch. A wedding, or something fun!

BarbaraofSevillle · 15/12/2017 14:46

YABU.

OP are you the OP of the thread who thought that the wedding date should have been chosen to avoid Kate being either heavily pregnant or recently post partum too?

Obviously Mehgan and Harry are BVU to want to get married and expecting people to attend their wedding when they have their own lives to deal with.

And anyway, can't Prince William just pop out in his helicopter to hand the trophy over?

As long as he'd made sure Kate and the DCs were being looked after, he could be there and back in no time and be barely missed Grin.

ShowMePotatoSalad · 15/12/2017 14:47

Sparks46th

I agree with that. People won't necessarily see it that way though as they are purely looking at it from the perspective of a) thinking football is a waste of time anyway and b) likening Prince W to a footy fan just bobbing along to watch the match rather than attend his brother's wedding.

I don't think OP is mad either and when you look at it from an official engagement perspective it is worth thinking about whether or not it's reasonable or not not to attend.

I still think OP is being U but only because I personally think his role will encompass a lot more than attending the match/ presenting the trophy and we aren't party to the agreement between FA/ Prince W.

PinkJeggings · 15/12/2017 14:47

People are piling in now in my defence hehe Xmas Grin @Whizbang Flowers Cake

RaindropsAndSparkles · 15/12/2017 14:47

Perhaps there are more important things on the other dates? In any event he'll still be attending the match of the day. Perhals they'll have a few bars during the recdssional. Wish I could do notes on .y phone

BarbaraofSevillle · 15/12/2017 14:48

to be fair if you've won the FA cup you don't care if Doris from the corner shop presents the trophy

We need a campaign to get Doris from the corner shop to present the FA cup. Or some kind of TV talent show with that gig as the prize.

KurriKurri · 15/12/2017 14:49

I am free on May 19th and although I have no interest in football, will happily volunteer my services to hand out the trophy. It will be a lark, I'll be on the telly, and I'll be able to totally avoid seeing the royal wedding Grin

babybythesea · 15/12/2017 14:49

Jacques - you spoke eloquently and truthfully on behalf of our people!
If you didn't win the trophy, then the eternal truth is that you won't watch anyone presenting it. You will turn the TV off as the whistle blows and find some urgent gardening to do instead, pretending that you don't really care anyway. You are definitely not available for Facebook, or answering the door or the phone. And Prince William or Doris or whoever it is can just take that nice shiny trophy and stick it where nothing will ever shine again.

Hobbitch · 15/12/2017 14:49

@redcrayons, love it!

ShowMePotatoSalad · 15/12/2017 14:50

Could he borrow his granny's private jet and fly in for an appearance on MOTD? As a compromise.

Would love to see him staggering on, slightly pissed, and plonking himself down between Lineker and Shearer, with his tie undone and his corsage looking the worse for wear.

Clandestino · 15/12/2017 14:50

Oh, I'm shamelessly bookmarking this thread. This is a real jewel. If I ever need an example of a spoilt First World Problem, I will definitely pull out this.

SexandDrugsandaNiceCuppa · 15/12/2017 14:51

"She is an extremely unpopular choice amongst the British people"

Lucky they're not the ones marrying her then eh?

BadPolicy · 15/12/2017 14:51

I'm not a fan of the monarchy, or football - but I do think it's ok to miss a work event, even a big one, to see your brother marry. YABU.

cricketqueen · 15/12/2017 14:51

It's almost as bad as when William chose to get married on my birthday......Wink
Seriously though I doubt the footballers or fans care who hands the trophy over. If this is what you get worked up about I wish my life was as simple as yours.

InvisibleKittenAttack · 15/12/2017 14:51

It's unlikely there's any dates that all of the "main" royals didn't already have a prior engagement.

It was probably the "which one of these will it not matter that much to cancel?" Prince William giving out the cup is not the big part of the FA cup final, noone watches the FA cup final just to see Prince William, however for other engagements, it would mean cancelling the whole thing if William/Charles/Queenie couldn't go.

The FA cup final will be just fine without him.

JacquesHammer · 15/12/2017 14:52

She'd probably be up for it if she could bring her two terriers
