Hi all, new to forum and looking for some advice.

My neighbours tumble dryer is on 10 hrs everyday. We can hear it in all rooms of our home and its next to the party wall. It on beteween 7am and 10.30pm. Everyday as best we can tell (we work full time) and every weekend. Its been like this for months. Quite honesty its making me very ill. We've been round several times and invited her to listen to noise which she agrees she can hear. She's making no effort to improve it though. We've made many suggestions such as pads, etc. Quite frankly i think she is inconsiderate. What do you guys think?

Mate, it's not a bloody tumble dryer Hmm how naive are you?

SideOrderofSprouts · 10/12/2017 19:07

Condenser dryers can take ages/a few goes if the filter is full of shit.

Dh empties ours every month because otherwise it seems to stop drying
The washing so
Well and take longer

OtterInDisgrace · 10/12/2017 19:08

That’s not what anyone could call reasonable noise. You are fully within your rights to take this further. Have you tried the environmental health?

OtterInDisgrace · 10/12/2017 19:10

If they are taking in other people’s washing that could constitute running a business from home which is usually not allowed in most tenancy agreements.

tararabumdeay · 10/12/2017 19:10

I used to live in the country. The neighbour's sheep and cattle kept us awake after moving from London where traffic and blues and twos were completely normal all day and night.

My new neighbour is a slack jaw baby dad who doesn't drive and doesn't work but he shagged a young woman and got the house to allow him contact with his child.

I feel so sorry for his new partner. She's the driver, the one who's family are helping.

I hate men.

The one I fell in love with was and is just a stupid scounger. I have to live with that for ever.

Mazzystarlett · 10/12/2017 19:12

I have a washer dryer and that takes four hours to do a load from start to finish. Could it be one of them and it's not correctly stabilized? They are bloody noisy if they are not on an even floor.

PastaOfMuppets · 10/12/2017 19:19

@tararabumdeay ?? Hmm

hendricksyousay · 10/12/2017 19:19

If they aren't cleaning it properly it's a fire hazard so get someone to check it . I don't understand the link between dryer noise and weed farms . I read through but must have missed it , can someone explain ?

Rudgie47 · 10/12/2017 19:23

If I was putting a bet on this I would say they were growing weed.LOL.

Spangles1963 · 10/12/2017 19:23

Crikey I hate to think what their electricity bill must be like. When I had a tumble dryer, about 12 years ago,it was the single most expensive item for using electricity in my house. Which was one of the reasons that I didn't bother getting a new one when it packed up. One wash load of 6 bath towels would take about 2 hours and use approx. a pounds worth of electricity. I now use a heated clothes airer in the winter, that costs about 12 pence for 12 hours. Smile

NapQueen · 10/12/2017 19:27

A weed farm was discovered opposite us a while back. The neigbouring house went up in flames, and as its old victorian terraces there are access routes through the loft.

Fire crew stormed the houses either side to get in (also hosing from in front) nd lo and behold; one attic was a full on weed farm.

Ring 101 OP and ask their advice?

Eatalot · 10/12/2017 19:30

If there is a stink of canabis and you are not 100% if this is a dryer id say its highly likely. Report her for noise and smell.

Everyone saying that its a weed farm; what has a tumble dryer got to do with a weed farm? You don’t dry weed in a tumble dryer, surely? It would get smashed to pieces in there.

Or if it’s not a tumble dryer what is it? Lots of posters implying they know what it is but no one has said?

Queenie64 · 10/12/2017 19:40

what inconsiderate people!!! You must compain to your local council, especially as it is now making you feel unwell. I would be feeling exactly the same, they obviously are very selfish as they havent tried to resolve it when you approached them. I have a friend who has four children, and even she doesn't have the dryer on all day!!!! they must be earning money from whatever it is they are drying, as i can imagine their electric bill must be enormous!!!! Good luck !!

BrizzleDrizzle · 10/12/2017 19:40

I also suspect a spot of indoor gardening. I don't think they are growing marigolds.

CorbynsBumFlannel · 10/12/2017 19:43

I'm assuming the neighbour has said tumble drier as an excuse.
It could be noisy heatlamps? Not commercially growing cannabis myself I don't know exactly what's involved but from what the op has said I'd be suspicious.

foodfrax · 10/12/2017 19:45

Smell of cannabis and a child would be enough for me tbh. The sound must be exhausting and you are not making a fuss at all!

Chrys2017 · 10/12/2017 19:46

Joining the weed factory chorus here.
"Ventilation: Growers need to ventilate the plants with large extractor fans, which generally emit a low hum. If every morning, at exactly the same time, it sounds as if someone next door is starting up their hovercraft, then it's probably a cannabis farm warming up for the day."

BakedBeans47 · 10/12/2017 19:46

Weed farm notwithstanding, if it is a tumble dryer wtf must her electricity bills be like?!

AboutAGallonofDietCoke · 10/12/2017 19:47

Money laundering..... Grin

Rudgie47 · 10/12/2017 19:48

Cheby, They use lights and fans, its explained here.herb.co/2015/12/08/how-to-grow-marijuana-equipment-and-set-up/

LemonysSnicket · 10/12/2017 19:49

@cheby. You can make hash from weed in a tumble dryer (or washing machine not sure which) and people also mean that it could be a large drum fan spinning instead of a TD which could be used to ventilate the farm.

safariboot · 10/12/2017 19:50

If they aren't reducing noise, report to environmental health. But don't expect them to do anything about it - in my experience they're happy to declare a noise that's pissing you off and preventing you using a bedroom as "not a statutory nuisance".

CercoCasa · 10/12/2017 19:51

money laundering maybe? Grin
