Hi all, new to forum and looking for some advice.

My neighbours tumble dryer is on 10 hrs everyday. We can hear it in all rooms of our home and its next to the party wall. It on beteween 7am and 10.30pm. Everyday as best we can tell (we work full time) and every weekend. Its been like this for months. Quite honesty its making me very ill. We've been round several times and invited her to listen to noise which she agrees she can hear. She's making no effort to improve it though. We've made many suggestions such as pads, etc. Quite frankly i think she is inconsiderate. What do you guys think?

I would report to EH then

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 10/12/2017 18:00

No one has the tumble dryer on for so long.
Her electricity bill must be sky high if she did.

There must be more to that.

Heratnumber7 · 10/12/2017 18:02

Lekky bill must be sky high. Just like them if it's a weed farm
Agree with calling the rozzers

XiCi · 10/12/2017 18:03

Yep, weed farm. No one has a tumble dryer on for that long

CorbynsBumFlannel · 10/12/2017 18:03

Hmm stench of cannabis. Probably not drying clothes then.

Scarydinosaurs · 10/12/2017 18:04

Call police. Weed farm.

Chattymummyhere · 10/12/2017 18:04

Chardonay

Our dryer takes roughly 2 hours to dry a full load but anti crease program which means if we don’t open the door after 10 minutes it cycles again for 20 and repeat untill we take the washing out. If the load finishes just as I’ve left to do the school run it will be stuck in its repeat cycle for 2 hours on top of its drying time. Repeat again for School pick up and that could easily be 8hours for two loads of washing. We tend to do 3 loads a day I try to time it not to finish at school run times but it’s got its own sensors and crap which alter how long each load with take and weigh it blah blah blah.

And yes my electric bill is huge.

CurlyhairedAssassin · 10/12/2017 18:07

My first and only thought was weed farm too.

SenseCheckMe · 10/12/2017 18:08

Called crimestoppers, they have nevered heard of tumble dryers and weed (could be an extract though i guess) she said it was a tumble dryer and it sounds like one to us. But who knows. Going to talk to environmental health / council tomorrow. We can't live with it, there's barely an hours peace. Soundproofing could help but we can hear it through the whole party wall (its in their kitchen) and it seems to travel along the wall some how.

Police. That is a weed farm.

Sparklesocks · 10/12/2017 18:10

It seems odd that it would be a tumble dryer, it would cost an absolute bomb to have on going all day. Definitely not a different appliance?

happypoobum · 10/12/2017 18:11

Call police. Don't mention bloody tumble dryers.

Just tell them there is a strong smell of weed coming from next door and there is a rumbling mechanical noise going on all day.

TheFirstMrsDV · 10/12/2017 18:14

I use my tumble dryer a lot. At one point I had a baby, a toddler, a child with SN plus a teen and two adults plus pets. DC with SN also has dust allergies.
I washed A LOT.
Even I never had the TD on all day.

That ain't a tumble dryer bruv

January87 · 10/12/2017 18:15

Yup, call 101.

HidingBehindTheWallpaper · 10/12/2017 18:16

Exactly what HappyPooBum said.

IAmAShitHotLawyer · 10/12/2017 18:16

Definitely dodgy

notapizzaeater · 10/12/2017 18:18

I can’t imagine any sane person using a tumble dryer for that entity of t8me unless there was another reason. Does cannabis need dry heat to grow, dry the leaves ?

SenseCheckMe · 10/12/2017 18:21

Thanks all. Massive help. Starting to put a few things together now. I reckon leccy bill is at least £200 per quarter for what they are using. Also when we offered to take a look and measure for a pad they certainly didnt want us in there, instead came round to ours. Is there any way to work.out if its a tumble dryer or a weed farm? Either way i want some quiet time.

JustAnIdiot · 10/12/2017 18:22

Perhaps they're stealing your electricity as well to keep the bills down - it happens!

Tiredeypops · 10/12/2017 18:22

Weed farm.

Chattymummyhere · 10/12/2017 18:23

Only the police will be able to find out. Nobody else has the right to go in and even then the police would need a warrant if the owners/tenant said no.

DownTheChimney · 10/12/2017 18:23

Have you got snow at the moment, op? Apparently weed farms don't have snow on their roofs, because of the heat.

HidingBehindTheWallpaper · 10/12/2017 18:24

Call the plod.
Tell them there is a strong smell of weed and rumbling noises.

Is there snow on their roof?

SenseCheckMe · 10/12/2017 18:24

Okay a few other thoughts, they don't work but have very sick child at home. Just trying to build a fuller picture, could a sick child produce that much washing. I felt so sympathic for them, starting to feel a fool. Could we be wrong, its just a tumble dryer. If so, i think we mostly agree its excessive.

putdownyourphone · 10/12/2017 18:25

Yes agreed don’t mention the tumble dryer when you report it. Just say mention the smell and suspicious mechanic noises. It may be an extractor fan and if you mention the tumble dryer it doesn’t support your story and they won’t bother checking.
