Hi all, new to forum and looking for some advice.

My neighbours tumble dryer is on 10 hrs everyday. We can hear it in all rooms of our home and its next to the party wall. It on beteween 7am and 10.30pm. Everyday as best we can tell (we work full time) and every weekend. Its been like this for months. Quite honesty its making me very ill. We've been round several times and invited her to listen to noise which she agrees she can hear. She's making no effort to improve it though. We've made many suggestions such as pads, etc. Quite frankly i think she is inconsiderate. What do you guys think?

She's either running a laundry business or drying out weed/skunk. re you sure it's not her fridge motor tho? They sound awful)incessant when a bit knackered. If you're sure it's the dryer tho, you need to report asap if you want the noise to go away

That's a great update especially now before Christmas so ye can relax 👍

QuackPorridgeBacon · 22/12/2017 10:30

I knew it wasn’t a weed farm. Laughing at all those insisting it was now. If the occasional smell of weeds doesn’t bother you I’d let them crack on. A disabled child isn’t easy and I think smoking is safer than drinking they must need something to get through the day. Lovely of you to gift them the washer/dryer and I’m sure they are so thankful for it. Have a good Christmas.

That's a lovely thing you have done for your neighbours OP!
Happy Christmas to you all Halo

Haggisfish · 22/12/2017 12:42

What a lovely update. Merry Christmas op!

Hello,

Do you live in Shrewsbury by any chance? I have the same problem but my neighbour runs the dryer all night - on the party wall right next to my bedroom. I've asked her to not do it cos it stops me sleeping but she hasnt listened. I'm now wondering if she is running a business cos she is an OAP living on her own..... how can she be running a tumble dryer every night?

Its got so bad that I'm putting the house up for sale cos i need to sleep!

The local council - Environmental Health, were next to useless and actually told me it was tinnitus..... yep.

This is a ZOMBIE thread five years old! AND the issue was resolved.

boboshmobo · 03/03/2023 06:34

My tumble dryer takes 3 hours to dry because it's the new berry efficient ones that use less electricity ..
i know it's weird but that is true .

I'm detached though so it doesn't bother anyone

Hey, OP here! 😃 Had to log back in and extend my sympathies to@Humnightmareinshrewsbury . Unwanted, intrusive noise is a horrible thing to experience. It's not something that is truely understandable unless you've been effected by it. It turns from mild annoyance, to over extended time, to something that really affects you everyday leading sufferer with anxiety, stressfulness and depression.

No I don't live in Shrewsbury.

To give a bit of an update, we ended up selling our home. We thought the issue was resolved, but no, it slowly worsened again until the noise and vibrations issues made it unbearable to live with.

We declared the noise issues, when we sold. To be fair it's difficult to express how bad it is on paper, until you actually live next door to it.

Hope things go well for you too @Humnightmareinshrewsbury .

Has the council or Environmental Health successfully helped anyone with noisy neighbours? Well, it’s not the neighbours themselves but their tumble dryer 😩I read the thread from 2017 about this issue and have been experiencing the same problem. It’s on every day from 7 am - 10 pm sometimes longer and washing machine 4-5 times daily sounds like a jumbo jet taking off ! And yes I am at home most days. There is only 3 adults, no kids in the property which is an upstairs flat ,No smells of weed, but the noise is unbearable it’s driving me nuts. Also how the hell can they afford it with price of energy today ?

Daphnis156 · 25/11/2023 15:12

The cost of 10 hrs tumbling a day would be huge. Possibly hundreds a month.
So I'd say something non domestic is going on.
Is it being used somehow to grow or humidify drugs, I wonder.

Atwitsender · 25/11/2023 19:45

God knows, but I just don’t understand why it’s on so much, I’ve been home all day and it started at 7.15 and is still on. The OP and responses that wrote in 2017 wasn’t so much concerned with how much it was costing but more if it was drugs related. I don’t think it’s drugs but how can anyone afford to run a tumbler dryer and washing machine for that many hours in the current economic climate!

floofbag · 26/11/2023 10:57

Are these people running a washing machine/ ironing business from their homes?

Atwitsender · 26/11/2023 17:05

I don’t know and don’t know how I would find out.

Zebedee55 · 26/11/2023 17:16

Tumble dyers aren't usually noisy enough for neighbours to hear.😗

TheFluentPoster · 07/01/2025 13:39

Hey I've been having problems with my neighbours tumbledryer and washing machine on from 6.30 am and late at night
It's so disruptive and driving me mad it's gotten progressively worse since November and all over Christmas period, they are a family of five 3 kids, I'm so fed up getting woke every morning half 6 and it seems like the dryer is in my bedroom it's so loud I'm at my wits end.

BMW6 · 07/01/2025 13:51
  1. Have you spoken to them?
  2. Perhaps start your own thread rather than tacking onto a zombie thread
TheFluentPoster · 07/01/2025 14:06

Thank you for your reply, I came upon this post when looking for ideas on what to do.
I plan on speaking to her ( my neighbour)when my daughter comes to visit me this weekend. Hopefully it goes well
