Hi all, new to forum and looking for some advice.

My neighbours tumble dryer is on 10 hrs everyday. We can hear it in all rooms of our home and its next to the party wall. It on beteween 7am and 10.30pm. Everyday as best we can tell (we work full time) and every weekend. Its been like this for months. Quite honesty its making me very ill. We've been round several times and invited her to listen to noise which she agrees she can hear. She's making no effort to improve it though. We've made many suggestions such as pads, etc. Quite frankly i think she is inconsiderate. What do you guys think?

Washing machines tend to be more noisy than tumble driers. Does the noise from the spin cycle equate to the use of the washing machine IYSWIM.

My mums upstairs neighbour had her dryer on constantly. It had my mum ill.
Council became involved and gave my mum sound equipment etc.
The council checked it out and it was a dryer.
Eventually they moved the noisy neighbour but it took an awful long time

Chattymummyhere · 10/12/2017 18:29

If they have a sick child they could be changing a lot of bedding and clothes if the illness involves vommiting or lack of continance.

When a d&v bug hits our house the washer and dryer are constantly on trying to keep up with demand for clothes/towels/bedding.

elephantoverthehill · 10/12/2017 18:29

*equate to the use of the tumble drier

cakeymccakington · 10/12/2017 18:29

Problem is, if you call the police they will know it's you.
And then if it IS the tumble dryer you've ruined any amicable way of resolving it.

I'd maybe mention that you've been advised to call EH and if there is anything dodgy going on hopefully that'll be enough to get them to sort it out

SenseCheckMe · 10/12/2017 18:30

Tbh it sounds like tumble dryer to me (just checked). The window is always open but i don't see a vent or anything.

Wouldn’t it be constant if it was a weed farm?

Frustrationqueen · 10/12/2017 18:31

My dryer doesnt need a vent

HillaryWinshaw · 10/12/2017 18:32

A massive extractor fan for a weed farm.

MongerTruffle · 10/12/2017 18:33

It could be a condenser dryer.

MyWhatICallNameChange · 10/12/2017 18:34

If it's a tumble dryer there must be something wrong with it, mine is on in the kitchen and I can barely hear it from the living room. I do a lot of washing (there's 6 of us) and I don't use it 10 hours a day.

Wauden · 10/12/2017 18:35

Just wondering. do you know for sure that there really is a sick child, or could that not be so, and be a cover-up story for the activities? (I watch crime/detective programmes and that has to come in handy somehow...)

SenseCheckMe · 10/12/2017 18:35

Yes, child is 'ill alot' so this could explain it too. Thanks so much for your thoughts. Think EH is the first step. We've kept noise logs and hopefully this will help.

Condenser dryers are sometimes not very efficient. Our old ones took ages and never really seemed to work properly.

Figgypuddingandcustard · 10/12/2017 18:36

Condenser dryer are very good at warming the room up they're operating in, so they could be using the dryer to keep warm.

chiaseeddisapointmentagain · 10/12/2017 18:36

The tumble drier of your neighbour is making you ill? Do get a life dear.

SenseCheckMe · 10/12/2017 18:41

It does make us ill. Its a constant rumble through our house. Its on most of the time we are awake. It gets under your skin. However if it wouldn't bother you, perhaps we have hope to sell our house to get away from it.

Frustrationqueen · 10/12/2017 18:43

I understand how ill it can get you.
Its the constant same sound over and over again. No matter what background noise you have going it seems to be heard over everything else. Your mind cant help but focus on it.
My parents were ready to sell up if the council didnt do anything

DownTheChimney · 10/12/2017 18:45

Yeah really helpful, thanks for that Hmm

Unfinishedkitchen · 10/12/2017 18:46

Sounds strange. How can they afford to run appliances that excessively if neither of them are working? Have you actually seen their child?

A house not far away burned down last year and it turned out it was a weed farm. According to people who lived close to it, you would never have suspected the owners.

Alternatively they could be making some money on the side from taking in washing and ironing?

Chattymummyhere · 10/12/2017 18:49

If they have a disabled child pip would help plus one might work from home, some utility providers also offer help for low income disabled families same as water companies will lock in a special price for certain medical conditions or low income houses with 3+ children.

SenseCheckMe · 10/12/2017 18:50

Thanks all. Lots of things i hadnt really considered. Good to see its most think its a problem/excessive. Now to fix it do we can all live with one another. Can update in a few days if anyone is interested.

Perhaps she does laundry for other people as a business?
I can't understand how 3 people could produce that much washing.
Definitely contact EH, if only for advice.

User02 · 10/12/2017 19:01

I have a couple next to me both in their 60s and they have the washing machine on every day but usually just one load. Mostly I just hear it on the spin. I don't see how 2 people that age who wear uniforms for work get so much washing to do, apart from the noise it is not my business
