Hi all, new to forum and looking for some advice.

My neighbours tumble dryer is on 10 hrs everyday. We can hear it in all rooms of our home and its next to the party wall. It on beteween 7am and 10.30pm. Everyday as best we can tell (we work full time) and every weekend. Its been like this for months. Quite honesty its making me very ill. We've been round several times and invited her to listen to noise which she agrees she can hear. She's making no effort to improve it though. We've made many suggestions such as pads, etc. Quite frankly i think she is inconsiderate. What do you guys think?

Really interested in how this turns out because I'm nosy. Also a little jealous, as I don't have a tumblr dryer!

Sissyjd · 12/12/2017 04:15

Oops sounds like someone's definitely growing next door, noise of fans, lights, extraction...can you smell anything?

If she is running a laundry business surely you would be smelling the lovely smell of freshly laundered clothes, not weed??

ineedwine99 · 12/12/2017 11:24

Placemarking :-D

SarahBeeney · 12/12/2017 11:24

Have you not complained to them about the smell of weed?I'd be very pissed off if I could smell it in my bedroom.

PieAndPumpkins · 12/12/2017 13:28

Kind of shocking police aren't interested in a potential weed farm? I'm with SarahBeeney - not the real one right? lol - i'd be seriously pissed off at the smell... I wouldn't accept no for an answer in investigating it.

PastaOfMuppets · 12/12/2017 13:38

They're not interested because OP is just saying 'the neighbour uses the dryer a lot' rather than 'the neighbour might be growing hydroponics'

OtterInDisgrace · 12/12/2017 13:45

One of my neighbours smokes weed and the smell from that is repulsive and permeates the entire house if you have the windows open. If I could smell that all day every day i’d’ve been on the phone like a shot to the EH at the very least.

Honestly, it’s vile. I’m surprised the OP is so nonchalant about the smell.

mumof06darlings · 12/12/2017 13:45

And If it is laundry business you would see her or people comming and going with large bundles of laundry

Blodplod · 12/12/2017 14:14

Oooooh this is intriguing! Why does a weed farm have a mechanical noise - it is actually a tumble dryer or something else entirely? Question to those in the know!

Blodplod · 12/12/2017 14:15

Sorry, forget last post as plenty of people have explained. I was only on page 1 when I posted message..

cowshindtail · 12/12/2017 17:41

What a fascinating thread,I can't wait to find out if it is a cannabis farm.

SenseCheckMe · 12/12/2017 18:35

WFH today significantly less drying today (4hrs). I was posdibly incorrect in thinking it was on all hours every weekday (we arent often home then as several posters quite rightly posted). I think its two seperate issues 1) i think it is still a tumble dryer and either its broken/OCD/lots of dirty clothes. 2) He maybe deals a bit on the side or is now smoking it in the house as its cold outside. Today was far more reasonable to normal living noise. Will keep posted and read suggestions.

How are things going the last few days?

CarolsSecretCookieRecipe · 15/12/2017 00:03

Thank you to the PP who mentioned the extra metal filter thingy on dryers. I had no idea mine had one either - I thought it was just inefficient because it's so old.

TheOtherClass · 15/12/2017 00:17

OP
Been to EH today and they said there is nothing they can do its a domestic appliance. It doesnt matter how long it runs for and if we can hear it in our home.

This is untrue. (Unless there has been some weird new legislation/guidelines/caselaw I've not heard about) They are fobbing you off. I'd suggest asking them to confirm this in writing.

You could also try contacting your local MP and asking them to follow it up with the council. Maybe keep a log for a couple of weeks and then you wil have something to show just how annoying it is.

Weezol · 15/12/2017 00:23

OP - if this is a weed farm it's very likely the electricity supply is split, stolen and lethal. Wouldn't it be better to call the police and be wrong than wake up to your home on fire?
If you're scared of repercussions you can call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.

ellephant · 15/12/2017 00:59

OP - I agree with many posters above and believe you might have a cannabis farm next door. Call 101 to report, tell them about the smell, curtains upstairs drawn and the mechanical noise you can often hear. But PLEASE don't say you think it's a tumble dryer. You seem to be fixated on the idea that it's a tumble dryer and although you might be correct, you're better to have it checked out. Police are unlikely to check if you tell them it's an appliance.
Your neighbour has also been evasive with you, which is another red flag.

cakeymccakington · 15/12/2017 08:26

I used to know a guy with a weed farm in his bedroom 🤔
His house didn't smell at all.

Everyone on this thread seems so hellbent on insisting it's a weed farm even though the OP has stated numerous times that it sounds exactly like a tumble dryer and that it's not on all day!

QuackPorridgeBacon · 15/12/2017 23:18

This is mumsnet, it just has to be a weed farm 🙄

suzy2b · 16/12/2017 14:52

If it was a weed farm the noise would be o 24/7 from the fans and you wouldn't smell weed so properly and old tumble dryer

mumof06darlings · 21/12/2017 21:28

How is your tr

mumof06darlings · 21/12/2017 21:29

How is your tracking going op?

SenseCheckMe · 21/12/2017 21:51

So had a chat with neighbours to run through a few ideas. Turns out their washing machine was knackered, so we knew of a friend with a spare washer-dryer and gifted them that. Everyone's a winner. Rarely hear the tumble dryer now, its on far far less now they have a fab washer-dryer to use. Tis the season of goodwill and all. Cannabis smell has reduced alot now too, think it was the occasional joint smell wafting through some small gaps between the party walls. Sorry guys no excitment of a swat team and weed farm, but are all far happier.
