To pull out because of programme at Christmas concert

I've been going to a choir since September, most of which has been practising for the Christmas concert this week.

We've just had the final rehearsal in which they've introduced a duet which us two people (not including me) singing 'Baby it's cold outside'.

Am I overreacting to pull out? At the moment I don't see how I can sit there through it.

What's the issue?

AmysTiara · 10/12/2017 17:30

I don't understand. Do you hate the song? Or do you wish you were singing in the duet? Confused

Thurlow · 10/12/2017 17:30

Is there something wrong with that song?

flowery · 10/12/2017 17:30

Whether you are overreacting depends on the reason you would be pulling out?

IvorBiggun · 10/12/2017 17:31

Do they sing very badly?

strawberrypenguin · 10/12/2017 17:31

Umm unless you have a trauma we don’t know about that you associate with it yes YWBU

ChristianGreysAnatomy · 10/12/2017 17:32

It's rapey. Take a look at the lyrics.

newtlover · 10/12/2017 17:32

YANBU, but it will be difficult and people will call you humourless
(see also: Brown Sugar, unaccountably popular at women's discos in my youth)

SunnyCoco · 10/12/2017 17:32

I think it’s because it’s a bit of a rapey song?

Buttgandy · 10/12/2017 17:33

In case anyone needs a reminder

user1471517900 · 10/12/2017 17:33

Its not rapey at all.

Rapey?

I’ve just looked at the lyrics and it’s hardly Blurred Lines.

EdithFinch · 10/12/2017 17:34

I am confused... why do you hate that song so much?

Whyamistillawake · 10/12/2017 17:35

Sorry yes because of the lyrics. I don't want to be singing the duet!

Apparently it can also be seen as a feminist anthem (really!)

Paperchains1986 · 10/12/2017 17:36

I've never considered it 'rapey' and this article explains better than me why

Woman wants to stay but is worried about what other people will say if she does. Man tries to persuade her to stay without force.

This is not rapey.

Pickleypickles · 10/12/2017 17:36

I just read the lyrics Confused its not very rapey? Its basically just an argument about staying with a guy and the woman holds her ground and says no??

Butterymuffin · 10/12/2017 17:36

There was a thread recently about this and how it's been misunderstood as about rape when it's actually jokey, it's in the context of a relationship and the woman wanting to stay over but that (woman's desire) not being socially acceptable. I'll try and find it.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 10/12/2017 17:38

I've got to go - repeat with variations

Ah but I'd like to shag you - repeat with variations

Ah bugger it, I'll stay....

I'm 99.9% certain I first slept with now DH after a similar conversation, and he was the one thinking he should leave!

Ffs

PinkHeart5914 · 10/12/2017 17:38

Meh don’t do it then!

Don’t really see the issue with that song myself

NotAgainYoda · 10/12/2017 17:38

I hadn't thought about this before. But it's awful.

WillowWept · 10/12/2017 17:40

Not my favourite song and the line

Say what's in this drink? makes me wince a little these days.

Could you just suggest something a little more “relevant”
