You don't have children at home during the day? As in, they're in school.
I'm all for SAHP if they're children are actually at home but unless your OH earns mega bucks and you don't need to work surely SAHM isn't the right term if you just decide you're not going to work when you're kids are at school.

Yawn

abbsisspartacus · 10/12/2017 16:22

I don't stop being a mum when the kids go to school and it's fucking snowing so I will be at home tomorrow

abbsisspartacus · 10/12/2017 16:23

With all the kids

AuntLydia · 10/12/2017 16:23

Huh? You don't stop being a mum when your kids are at school. So if you're a mum and you're staying at home what should be the description?!

PurpleDaisies · 10/12/2017 16:23
Hmm
AnneBiscuit · 10/12/2017 16:23

What difference does it make. Hmm

Nice try Biscuit

YellowMakesMeSmile · 10/12/2017 16:24

SAHM/D is a daft term, just like when people use the term full time mum.

Essentially it's trying to make it sound better than saying unemployed.

NarcsBegone · 10/12/2017 16:24

Does it really matter how people refer to themselves? Surely it's a personal thing? I use various terms depending on who I am speaking to to define what I do, I feel it's my choice to refer to myself how I like and others choice to refer to themselves the way they want. I certainly wouldn't judge.

RestingGrinchFace · 10/12/2017 16:25

But you children are still with you during work hours before and after school (at least for the first few years).

SinisterBumFacedCat · 10/12/2017 16:27

3pm - 5.30 pm?

Fairylea · 10/12/2017 16:27

Hmmm you do know some people make the choice to be unemployed? And that’s actually okay? There is lots more to life than how much you earn and what career you have. Hmm Not everyone who is unemployed is reliant on benefits either.

(For the record, we are a low income family, dh works full time, I can’t work due to health problems and we have 2 dc, one who has severe asd, so the point I’ve made doesn’t even apply to me!)

How many times do we need to have threads like this?

MrsTerryPratchett · 10/12/2017 16:28

I'm amazed you have to time to care. What with you being a productive member of society and all.

NataliaOsipova · 10/12/2017 16:30

Hmmm you do know some people make the choice to be unemployed?

Going to be a pedant here....but "unemployed" means actively seeking and available for work. So they don't. I don't work as I choose not to. So I am not in employment, but I am not classified as unemployed.

IrkThePurist · 10/12/2017 16:30

What an odd post. Does it count if they're off sick for a couple of days or its half term? Do you stop being a SAHP when they're back at school?

EB123 · 10/12/2017 16:30

What if you are with your children but you leave the house during the day? Can you still be called a stay at home mum/dad if you leave the house? Wink

buttfacedmiscreant · 10/12/2017 16:32

How about

CTNWBSAHMETMCAASDTDBXR

Is that better?

(Choosing to not work but stay at home mother even though my children are at school during the day because X reason)

Why does it even matter to you?

What a ridiculous post, what do you think a SAHM should be called then?

I do love how people think someone can suddenly afford to go back to work when their children are at school, for one of these miraculously high-paid job working from 9:30 to 2:30pm, giving you all the school holidays, inset days, sick days off....

As long as a family is self-sufficient and doesn't relay on public money, who on earth cares how they organise their finances?
