How many people do you buy Christmas presents for?

Just that really. I only have a small family (parents both dead and 2 brothers, one lives abroad, other I have no contact with) so it's only my DD,DGD and son-in-law and best friend. But I admit I've been amazed at the number of people that I know,or have read about that buy Christmas presents for what seems like an incredibly large number of people. Even when I was at college, many years ago,I can recall class mates saying they were buying presents for their second cousins, their next door neighbours, great uncles and aunts as well as the usual parents and siblings.

  1. Family only.
jaseyraex · 08/12/2017 18:43

Most of my family live abroad and my DH doesn't speak to any of his family so not much buying to do for us! I buy for DH, the kids, my mum, my brother and two close friends.

Kahlua4me · 08/12/2017 18:47

About 25 I think! Most of them are children though and only smallish presents for most bar family.

BarryTheKestrel · 08/12/2017 18:50

I have a large family so about 24. And considering I've gone NC with 6 family members in the past year my bank balance is definitely noticing!

Undercoverbanana · 08/12/2017 18:51

I don't do cards - horrendous waste of resources/money/time.

Tensecondrule · 08/12/2017 18:52

Only 9 plus DH and two DC. Some friends of mine buy for upwards of 80 people...literally buying for all their friends and including the adults. Utter madness. I also think the people they buy for probably wish they didn't, as they have to buy gifts in return and may not be able to afford it! Consumerism gone mad, if it was up to me I wouldn't buy gifts at all 😂

FakePlantsOnly · 08/12/2017 18:54
  1. My DP, my mum and dad, both of my brothers, my step mum and step dad and my brothers girlfriend.

DP does all the buying for his family which is only me and his mum and dad

Parents, parent’s spouses, grandparent, siblings, their partners and children. Also including my own children and husband. I’ve never counted it up before!

ScreamingValenta · 08/12/2017 18:58

shaggedthruahedgebackwards · 08/12/2017 18:59

Too fucking many.

Sorry - feeling sore as I just did a big Amazon shop and it's hideous. Massively scaling back next year.

onlyonaTuesday · 08/12/2017 19:02

8 adults
2 children
1 secret Santa

shouldaknownbetter · 08/12/2017 19:05

2 kids, husband, mother, father, step mother, brother, nephew, 3 neices.. so 11 in total. We have a rule in our family that if you have children, you don't get a present yourself. I buy for my family, DH buys for his but gifts are from both of us.

Silvertap · 08/12/2017 19:08

Close family - 10
Godchildren - 3

Family rule is presents till 21 then you finish off with a big one then no more.

Orangebird69 · 08/12/2017 19:08

Sallystyle · 08/12/2017 19:11

5 children and DH.

Mum, sister, PILs, four GPs and my best friend.

So, 15. I have cut down a lot.

HiggedyPiggedy · 08/12/2017 19:14

Nanasue, why don't you want to buy for your daughter's partner's daughters.

We buy for 7 adults (all family) and 10 children (mainly small gifts). Probably do all that for £350.
