How many people do you buy Christmas presents for?

Just that really. I only have a small family (parents both dead and 2 brothers, one lives abroad, other I have no contact with) so it's only my DD,DGD and son-in-law and best friend. But I admit I've been amazed at the number of people that I know,or have read about that buy Christmas presents for what seems like an incredibly large number of people. Even when I was at college, many years ago,I can recall class mates saying they were buying presents for their second cousins, their next door neighbours, great uncles and aunts as well as the usual parents and siblings.

Roughly 20 people (half of them children.)

zoomer445 · 08/12/2017 19:41

Roses - you spend more on the nanny than you do the kids or did I not read that right?

brasty · 08/12/2017 19:41

5 family members and a box of chocolates for work. DP buys for his siblings and parents. I do nothing for these except sign a gift tag.

brasty · 08/12/2017 19:42

Sometimes we have had friends and elderly neighbours join us on Xmas day. If they do, also buy them a token present.

Rufustherenegadereindeer1 · 08/12/2017 19:44

My 3 teenagers

£10 budget for my dad

FIL has a bottle of wine

My brothers 3

The hairdressers 2

And my friends 2

And thats it...12. We stop buying for children at 18

brasty · 08/12/2017 19:44

Forgot to add, our rule is we buy for nieces and nephews until they are 18. After that, they only get a present if they reciprocate or at least do a proper thank you. The vast majority don't.

Rufustherenegadereindeer1 · 08/12/2017 19:45

Sorry

Thats 3 and 2 children

So not two presents for the hairdresser...a present for her 2 children

JustHappy3 · 08/12/2017 19:48

Gosh - 36 - no wonder i find it a stress!
16 for parents, siblings, neices and nephews and aunts.
4 - our kids and us
8 for various teachers, TAs
c10 for friends/friends' kids
Don't spend a lot compared to some - c£350 in total.

DoubleLottchen · 08/12/2017 19:48

DH and I buy for (apart from each other and our DC) our parents, our siblings and their partners, our nephews and nieces and our godchildren. Plus I do work Secret Santa, but DH doesn't.
It works out as 11 adults and 6 children.

kaytee87 · 08/12/2017 19:49

Between DH and I we buy for 14. Only buy for family now as if we buy for all of our friends kids too it gets ridiculous.

bigbluebus · 08/12/2017 19:52

17 - I'm slowly reducing the list - have agreed with 2 friends that we will only do birthdays from now on - although they both have birthdays in January!
7 Nieces and nephews - who are now adults but we still buy for them.
MIL & FIL
BIL & SIL x2
Br & Sil ( who have no children). Stopped doing other DB who has 3 DCs a few years ago.
DH
DS

It used to be a lot more - both DCs had SEN so a whole host of TA's, Carers, Drivers to buy for when they were younger. My Dparents are no longer with us and our DD died last year. Used to buy for Godson - who is now over 18 so that has stopped and also used to buy for a friend's 2 DD's but have stopped doing Christmas pressies for them now although still do birthday gifts as they are both still students.

Would love to get the list down to an even smaller one but DH comes from quite a small family where they have all bought for each other - so the buying for adults in the family seems to be the knock on effect of that.

Chottie · 08/12/2017 19:53

DH, DD, DSiL, 2 x DGC, DS, DSis, DBiL, 2DN and 4 presents for team at work.

So 14 in all :)

artisancraftbeer · 08/12/2017 19:54

28 inc teachers😲.

Dh and our dcs

I'm one of 4 so 10 presents for my side of the family (3 x sibs plus partners) parents, 2 nieces/nephews.

Pils, sil and her dh, nieces x2

Godchildren. Lots of godchildren.

123bananas · 08/12/2017 19:54

Our 3 kids

4 adult family £5 gifts for the kids to give them when they visit

5 teachers £5 gifts

1 secret santa gift

We just set aside money and get ourselves something we like.

If I were to buy for all the children in the family we would not be able to pay the bills.

HRTpatch · 08/12/2017 19:55

Dp and 2 adult dcs

MissBax · 08/12/2017 19:55

DM
DH
FIL
MIL
DD

Coconutspongexo · 08/12/2017 19:58

Son
Parents
5 siblings don’t buy their OHs anything.
6 nieces/nephews.

I always think this is a lot for just me but then I think of how many grandchildren my poor grandparents had and feel lucky Grin

Cantspell2 · 08/12/2017 19:58

2 x sons stocking, a few tree presents and some cash.
Mum disabled 80 years old and lives with me so doesn’t need or want a lot so this year is getting new bedding.
Brother and his partner. They have token gifts. This year brother has a silly Christmas jumper and I have done a gardening hamper for his partner most of it bought in the end of season sales.
My teenage nephew get £20 in a card.
Secret Santa total £5 spend. This year had to be unisex as all gifts went in a sack and everyone pulled out a gift. I went for a a mixture liquor gift set.
Total 7 people costing around £500 most spent on my boys.

TheLittleShirt · 08/12/2017 20:02

DH and DD big pressies. DSis, DBil, 2 xDneps, DPs, DSD plus her 2 kids all £20-£25 each. Oh plus a couple of small secret santas.. -All usually done Christmas Eve!!!!!!-

Crunchymum · 08/12/2017 20:03

We are really trying to cut back.

We have 8 siblings between us, as well as both sets of parents, 13 nieces and nephews and 2 kids of our own (3rd due in 8 weeks). Oh and siblings-in-law.

It's just ridiculous.

So we do both sets of parents, our own children and token gifts (less than fiver) for all the other kids.

Bonkerz · 08/12/2017 20:04

My friends have become my family so I buy for quite a few people but not relations!

MadameJosephine · 08/12/2017 20:18

Seven altogether

Mum and dad
5 yo DD
21 yo DS
Brother, his wife and their 10 yo DS

ShizzleYoDrizzle · 08/12/2017 20:20

Four little nieces and nephews.

And then we do Secret Santa for all the adults in the family. Makes life so much less stressful only having to buy for one rather than eight!

MissCalamity · 08/12/2017 20:41

I've managed to knock 4 presents off my lists this year.

So that's 12 now, plus 2 secret Santa's (1 work, 1 hobby) still a lot I think!

InsomniacAnonymous · 08/12/2017 21:00

Zero.
