To say that the UK is not a Rape Culture?

So I have had an argument with a lady I work with today that has ended with her calling me the "Patriarchy Personified", hence the name.

She claimed that the UK was a Rape Culture. I completely disagree and it feels like this is more creeping 'third wave' bullshit.

If you look at the definition of Rape Culture which is:

a society or environment whose prevailing social attitudes have the effect of normalizing or trivializing sexual assault and abuse.

Then it's clear that she is wrong. I don't disagree that there are elements of UK society that I would argue probably are characterised in this way, but you can not describe the whole UK in those terms.

She was extremely unhappy to be challenged, I work with her on a weekly basis and I've got a feeling I'm not going to have heard the last of this!

Rather than hanging himself with a long rope...

StigOfThePlump · 09/12/2017 19:36

Most people I speak to find stifling PC-ness annoying. Nobody wants to sing "baa baa rainbow sheep".

RidingWindhorses · 09/12/2017 19:39

That's fairly typical of low IQ, low education crowd.

ToffeeUp · 09/12/2017 19:40

Oh dear Stig, time to broaden your horizon

Rufustherenegadereindeer1 · 09/12/2017 19:40

Im assuming its run out of actual discussion points

Who broke it????

Fess up

StigOfThePlump · 09/12/2017 19:41

Who'd have thunk that agreeing with RAINN would make me rapey! Shock

Grimbles · 09/12/2017 19:42

Oh wow.

This is amusing!

RidingWindhorses · 09/12/2017 19:46

....

To say that the UK is not a Rape Culture?
Rufustherenegadereindeer1 · 09/12/2017 19:47

grimbles

It started off sounding vaguely normal and then riding broke it and it went all weird

SmileEachDay · 09/12/2017 19:48

stig

I missed your quote from RAINN that said there was no rape culture. Could you c&p it for me?

RidingWindhorses · 09/12/2017 19:48

It came away in me 'and ma'am.

Rufustherenegadereindeer1 · 09/12/2017 19:50

So you say riding so you say

You honestly don't deserve new things if you dont look after them properly

Lizzie48 · 09/12/2017 19:51

So long as we have two sexes attracted to each other I think we're going to experience people making clumsy sexual passes, telling crude jokes, wolf whistling, etc.

No, that's not about mutual attraction, Stig, that's aggressive and unpleasant and about belittling women.

RidingWindhorses · 09/12/2017 19:55

I don't want a new one the old one was crap. Can we get a clever one next time?

WhatWouldGenghisDo · 09/12/2017 19:58

Damn I got distracted from the thread just before it went hilarious Grin

SmileEachDay · 09/12/2017 20:01

To be fair to riding I don't think it was a high quality product to begin with.

Like Waitrose rip off that you get down the market. Often next to a stall selling a 'mixed bag of meat for a tenner'

Rufustherenegadereindeer1 · 09/12/2017 20:02

A clever one???

Im not a bloody miracle worker Grin

Rufustherenegadereindeer1 · 09/12/2017 20:06

Fair point smile

I think the packaging was very deceptive

SmileEachDay · 09/12/2017 20:12

Like those stupid 'lego compatible mugs' which don't actually fit lego blocks. They have great packaging. But they're fucking useless and very, very annoying.

I may have bought some for Christmas

Rufustherenegadereindeer1 · 09/12/2017 20:17

Tell me you left the meat at the market smile

Shock please tell me that!!

SmileEachDay · 09/12/2017 20:23

The meat van at the market makes me want to be vegan.

The man has a microphone and he has patter like he's an auctioneer. Then he dumps the meat in a bag and flings it onto the counter.

It's pretty disgusting.

DeleteOrDecay · 09/12/2017 21:18

So long as we have two sexes attracted to each other I think we're going to experience people making clumsy sexual passes, telling crude jokes, wolf whistling, etc.

Ah well. It's just something us women have to put up with then i suppose. Men couldn't possibly examine and change their behaviour, far too challenging for their tiny one track minds.Hmm

There was a great deal more to it than most people seem to want to believe.

Like what? Do tell.

DeleteOrDecay · 09/12/2017 21:23

And no I don't actually think men have tiny one track minds. I think they can be better than that. It's a shame so many men don't have that same believe in their own sex. It's a shame they don't want to be better.

Megs4x3 · 10/12/2017 01:29

When Northern Ireland Police are tweeting that people need to remember that kissing under the mistletoe this Christmas without consent, the whole issue is out of control. www.belfasttelegraph.co.uk/news/northern-ireland/psni-delete-seasons-greetings-mistletoe-rape-tweet-warning-after-backlash-36373326.html

HerSymphonyAndSong · 10/12/2017 02:36

What issue is out of control? The police in that link don’t actually refer to kissing at all
