To think we need a General Election asap

Surely now is the time for a vote of utter no confidence in Theresa May. AIBU to think she and those around her are utterly incompetent and making Britain a laughing stock around the globe?

No to another general election

Labour's policy is to leave the Single Market, which would create the exact same problem May is dealing with now. Labour's policy on Brexit is deliberately ambiguous and the idea they can offer a better solution is laughable.

It's a shit show all round

Rebeccaslicker · 05/12/2017 08:55

The thought of corbyn and McDonnell's dinosaur dreams and fiscal irresponsibility is the only thing that's more scary than the current shower.

I honestly wish we could get rid of the whole lot and start again. As that's clearly impossible I would only want to have a GE if we could guarantee that the lib dems could have a go. I've never voted for them before but I just don't see how they could be worse than what we have currently or the spectre of red jezza!

Did anyone predict the Irish border issue?

Er, yes, your neighbours Ireland did

shhhfastasleep · 05/12/2017 09:07

Yes. Remain posters on MN. A lot.

lollipop7 · 05/12/2017 09:13

It’s painful now. Really painful.

To think we need a General Election asap
ChardonnaysPrettySister · 05/12/2017 09:20

A General Election will only get us deeper in this nightmare.

How is a GE going to solve the negotiation issues if the only other party that has a chance of winning have the same position on Brexit, maybe ev n even harder, in addition to their misogynistic, anti Semitic and hard Marxist leanings?

TriJo · 05/12/2017 09:30

Irish in London here, voted Remain. We knew it was going to be a three ring shitshow from the start, knew NI was going to be screwed over regardless because the Tories seem to forget they exist half the time and the Good Friday agreement seemed to be but a minor inconvenience in the minds of the Brexit cheerleaders.

wasonthelist · 05/12/2017 09:31

Yes. Remain posters on MN. A lot.

So we can never leave the EU due to Ireland?

Lizzie48 · 05/12/2017 09:32

Did anyone predict the Irish border issue?

Hahahahaha!!!

I certainly did and so did those campaigning for a remain vote, and the Republic of Ireland. But the likes of Boris Johnson and Nigel Farrage shouted them all down accusing any reasoned debate as scaremongering!! Hmm

Lizzie48 · 05/12/2017 09:33

As for a GE, well I don't see how that will solve anything. We'll end up with another minority Tory government most likely. Hmm

BubblesBuddy · 05/12/2017 09:34

Teresa May, nor any British Govt can get a good deal. 27 countries are fighting for their position. The Irish border issue was known about before the vote but the leave vote made it seem a simple issue to settle it. The EU know perfectly well this border is our Achilles heel with the support from the DUP required.

The leavers simplified everything down to a sound bite and people bought it. If you can get your message over in a few words, like Trump and Farage, you can get a big vote for your over simplified views.

Regarding Cameron, he had a gun held to his head by his Conservative MPs who had been banging on about leaving the eu since the 1980s. Remember John Major’s problems? Identical. Cameron bowed to pressure but it was a pressure cooker atmosphere that Farage has ramped up.

No to another election. That solves nothing. Stopping Brexit in its worst form is what should be the target.

PickingOakum · 05/12/2017 09:35

Anyone who votes tory should hang their heads in shame. Unless they get off on seeing people homeless and in poverty.

Interesting how people forget the last Labour government left a trail of littered body parts across a middle eastern and a central asian country.

Maybe those voters get off on bombing Arabs and Pashtuns though ...

raisinsarenottheonlyfruit · 05/12/2017 09:36

How is a GE going to solve the negotiation issues if the only other party that has a chance of winning have the same position on Brexit

It's not. But look past the next few months. At least with Labour in power we have a chance of creating a post-Brexit Britain that isn't created to serve the multi-nationals and the super rich by utterly screwing the rest of us over.

TM wants to do deals with the racist, accused-of-being-a-rapist, arrogant narcissist and soon-to-be impeached criminal that is Donald Trump.

Does that not concern you? Where is her judgement?

midnightmisssuki · 05/12/2017 09:37

Who do you propose to run the country OP? That shit show Corbyn? The marxist, terrorist sympathising man? You clearly dont like May and fair enough - but have you got an alternative?

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 05/12/2017 09:37

.

So we can never leave the EU due to Ireland?

I certainly hope so.Grin

But all of this was predicted here and was dismissed as scaremongering by the Leavers.

Zevitevitchofcrimas · 05/12/2017 09:39

oh my lord, I cannot imagine the chaos we would be plunged into with Corbyn and Momentum Shock how naive how stupid! NO!

ParadiseCity · 05/12/2017 09:39

If I was Theresa May I'd stand up to DUP. I know they are keeping her in power but if they let the government fall I don't believe the DUP would get as many votes in another GE.

Tell DUP tough shit the border will be in sea between NI and rest of UK.

Either DUP suck it up or they force GE.

Another GE would be shit & expensive but nowhere near as shit as a hard border between Ireland and NI.

Zevitevitchofcrimas · 05/12/2017 09:40

picking Labours record is so much worse than that - leaving a trail of bodies, sowing seeds for ISIS etc. So much worse. I wonder if the bombs dropped had " we are the UKs nice party" written on them. Angry

raisinsarenottheonlyfruit · 05/12/2017 09:40

Corbyn is not a terrorist. FFS.

Theresa May sells weapons to Saudi and they supply terrorists.

Corbyn spoke to terrorists in a bid to bring about peace.

One is fueling terrorism, the other trying to stop it.

Which is the terrorist sympathiser?

makeourfuture · 05/12/2017 09:43

It is telling that you rightists hate fairness and social equality so much you are willing to sink the whole nation.

Anything, to any lengths, to keep from admitting we are all human.

2rebecca · 05/12/2017 09:44

YABU

makeourfuture · 05/12/2017 09:45

If I was Theresa May I'd stand up to DUP

They called her home yesterday.

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 05/12/2017 09:53

The hard left love their Marxist principles so much they are willing to sink the whole nation.

Lizzie48 · 05/12/2017 09:53

The trouble is that they have her over a barrel, especially as there are Tories who are unhappy with her Brexit policy as well. She'll never get a deal agreed without the DUP's support.

moreofaslummythanyummy · 05/12/2017 09:55

In my ideal world Labour would be in charge and there would be no Brexit. HOWEVER I believe in democracy and Tories are in charge and Brexit is happening .
What is terrifying is the government are chaotic and incompetent! As mentioned above we are a laughing stock !
Ideally they should hit the pause button on Brexit, NHS cuts and universal credit (just a few of examples) , sort their shit out and get a strong leadership team. This team then needs CLEAR plans on how to tackle all these shit storms.
It really is common sense that these negotiations should never have started with the Government in the state that it is!
