Surely now is the time for a vote of utter no confidence in Theresa May. AIBU to think she and those around her are utterly incompetent and making Britain a laughing stock around the globe?

Does not mean he his not happy with it happening...

Basseting · 05/12/2017 12:02

Reluctantly - YES.

Current position is damaging the UK, whatever your view of Brexit.
TM was unelected, has a poor record (as Home Sec) and is clearly not competent as PM.
The DUP has her over a barrel. The Scots will complain if NI gets special treatment. Then Wales, London etc. More division.
It is a huge mess and the entire Cabinet / Front bench has less ability and competence than I can remember in my lifetime (I am nearly 50)

And, what raisins said: (sorry to copy but it is perfectly said):
"TM wants to do deals with the racist, accused-of-being-a-rapist, arrogant narcissist and soon-to-be impeached criminal that is Donald Trump."

makeourfuture · 05/12/2017 12:04

Given this development, is the Tory/DUP coalition still valid? From a Constitutional standpoint?

choseAUsername · 05/12/2017 12:19

If the alternative is Corbyn then fuck no. If there was a viable alternative then perhaps.

I think it's hilarious how people forget Corbyn is very anti-Europe and is noticeably quiet at the moment. Perhaps so that the Labour Party isn't destroyed by him and his radical group of morons. Perhaps because he can't wait for Brexit to go through.

The last thing we need is incompetent socialists running the country. We need a new New Labour (Tory lite) to split from the frighteningly left-wing Corbyites and for there then to be an election. A new, viable party would make a GE worthwhile.

Commuterface · 05/12/2017 12:29

I can't see her lasting beyond Christmas but the thought of Corbyn getting anywhere near no 10 fills me with dread.

I've always been a conservative voter but with May and her Cabinet at the helm I think I would rather spoil by ballot paper.

wasonthelist · 05/12/2017 12:35

worked within the system to change anything we felt needed changing

Sure, that was working so well for us ;)

SeaWitchly · 05/12/2017 12:47

I'd like Corbyn and Momentum running the country. It's what it needs.

Agree Emoji.

Bring on the GE!

wasonthelist · 05/12/2017 12:48

but the thought of Corbyn getting anywhere near no 10 fills me with dread.

Welcome to my world every time we have a Tory administration.

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 05/12/2017 12:59

Every time there is even a suggestion of Corbyn coming to power the pound drops and all our pension are in free fall.

nomad5 · 05/12/2017 13:03

Despite my historical problems with both of them....

The ONLY solution in my head right now is a stable unity government headed by Tony Blair and John Major to cancel Brexshit OR suitably arrange a Norway/EEA set-up with a clearly set out transition period that will provide confidence and stability to the public and business.

Given they were the ones that helped to get peace in NI, I think they might have more clue about how to resolve all of this than the current shower of idiots. Noticeably both were firmly REMAIN.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 05/12/2017 13:04

Another one here who thinks the current batch of Tories are hopeless but dreads the marxist alternative

A part of me I'm not proud of almost wishes for a brief period of Corbyn/Momentum running things, if only to demonstrate to their admirers just what it would be like; trouble is, the damage to the country during such an "experiment" could be catastrophic (and they'd probably still say it was everyone else's fault if parliament dared to block their real socialist principles Hmm)

nomad5 · 05/12/2017 13:05

Set number of representatives from all parties and UK regions in cabinet.

Fixed 2020 election date

Also think would be worth considering creating a written constitution so this shitshow never happens again

Rebeccaslicker · 05/12/2017 13:06

Can't we have andrew neill? I'd vote for him rather than any of the current crew!

Jaxhog · 05/12/2017 13:08

Brexit is a disaster, but a general election would only make things worse. Can you imagine it - just as we're approaching the deadlines for Brexit, we get distracted by meaningless election campaigns. The EU bods would walk all over us, laughing all the way to the bank. Even more than they currently are.

I'm also not sure that ANY party is electable right now.

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 05/12/2017 13:10

I have been thinking that despite his shitiness I would like to see Tony Blair back.
Or any pragmatically minded charismatic party leader.

LakieLady · 05/12/2017 13:12

The Tories threw this lump of shit at the fan when they decided to have a referendum in the hope that it would neutralise the Brexiteers. They need to stay in and clear up the mess they made.

Winning a GE now would be a poisoned chalice. If there was a GE, and if Labour won, they would only last one term. If Brexit goes ahead, they'd get the blame for all the subsequent problems, and if it didn't go ahead, they'd incur the wrath of all the Brussels-hating DM-reading Kipper types. Then we'd get another another Tory government and yet more austerity, poverty, rubbish public services and all the rest of it.

May should call the DUPs bluff, and go ahead with the deal that was nearly accepted yesterday. Foster's "we won't be treated differently from the rest of the UK" is just bollocks - she's perfectly happy for NI to be treated differently when it comes to abortion rights, gay marriage and the right to incite religious hatred by having their ghastly parades. And NI voted to remain, so she's not even representing the majority view of that part of the UK she's supposed to represent.

This was flagged up at the time of the referendum: there were discussions on lots of politics boards about the fact that Brexit was incompatible with the Good Friday Agreement which has the legal status of a treaty. I don't know why it was never discussed more in the media.

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 05/12/2017 13:15

No thanks Corbyn, McDonnell and Momentum leandig the talks is laughable. May isn’t doing well I doubt many would we are in such a difficult position (she didn’t help herself calling an election that backfired) but I would prefer her leading the country at the moment than Corbyn and co

It’s not going to happen

I really don’t get the UK is the laughing stock of Europe France and Germany have just had elections with large gains of the far right (with Germany having another election as coalition talks collapsed) along with Austria. European countries have their own issues us leaving the EU is problematic for them as well as the UK

makeourfuture · 05/12/2017 13:20

All the very real pain suffered right now under this dreadful Tory regime, and rightists speak of the dangers of social equality.

Amazing.

HirplesWithHaggis · 05/12/2017 13:33

makeourfuture Tue 05-Dec-17 12:04:23 Given this development, is the Tory/DUP coalition still valid? From a Constitutional standpoint?

There is no coalition. DUP agreed a confidence and supply arrangement, but given the DUP haven't received their bung yet, it's on a shoogly peg.

mothertruck3r · 05/12/2017 13:55

Yes. I can think of lots of able MPs in parliament at the moment of all parties. None of them Brexiteers funnily enough.

Theresa May was and still is a Remainer. No wonder Brexit is such a shit show. In my opinion, she is deliberately trying to make it as bad as possible so that a new referendum is required.

bertiesgal · 05/12/2017 14:16

Mother tr3cker, it's s shit show regardless.

We were repeatedly warned that Brexit would be a mess.

Now that it's coming to pass you're blaming the PM. She's the worst PM I remember and the deal with the DUP was in my opinion offensive but Brexit being a mess is not due to some convoluted conspiracy on the part of Theresa May. In fact, that would imply she's capable of sophisticated thought.

It's a mess because it was always going to be a mess.

There are none so blind as those who will not see and all that.

sinceyouask · 05/12/2017 14:20

But everyone is already laughing. At May and her 'team', and their disastrous handling of the situation.

goldenclaire · 05/12/2017 14:23

I think there would be a serious risk of a low turnout due to voter apathy at another election so soon after all the recent elections/referendums.

goldenclaire · 05/12/2017 14:24

^also because there is no good choice between any of the parties. I didn't vote at the last election anyhow. First time i didn't vote.

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 05/12/2017 14:27

All the very real pain suffered right now under this dreadful Tory regime, and rightists speak of the dangers of social equality.

Stop calling those that don't believe that Corbyn is the second coming 'rightists' It's incredibly childish.
