The erosion of women

IHATEPeppaPig · 03/12/2017 22:14

I know, I know 'not another Trans thread' BUT, I am truly interested in people's opinions on this - I was always of the thought that I don't really care how anyone expresses themselves, carry on as you wish and I do still think this to varying degrees but I am concerned about the Trans agenda moving forwards and the erosion of women and reading through Twitter I found the following articles attached to this tweet:

I'm not personally interested in breastfeeding or giving birth. But the #terf assumption that these abilities are "biologically" reserved for AFAB is just one thing: wrong.

www.nytimes.com/2017/12/02/health/uterus-transplant-baby.html

www.thestranger.com/queer-issue-2017/2017/06/21/25225867/my-first-time-breastfeeding-my-daughter

Now, I found the second article creepy - particularly where they mention that they 'got off' on breastfeeding and I'm not entirely sure how factual it actually is but it's scary that people are using this to prove how defunct 'ciswomen' (I HATE this term) are?

Trans women are women because it’s not nice to say otherwise ok 👌

Transphobe.

HidingBehindTheWallpaper · 03/12/2017 23:37

Brilliant. I’m going to get some pointy ears, a fluffy tail and call myself Felix. I’m a cat and it’s rude to say otherwise.

Or perhaps I’ll announce I’m Black and win a black woman of the year award. No one will mind that.

PerfectlyDone · 03/12/2017 23:39

A phobia is an exaggerated, heightened fear of something/one.

I do not fear transpeople, not as a community nor as individuals.

I do fear transactitvists.

Just like I don't fear muslims, but am scared of radical islamists.

Don't tell me what to feel.

PerfectlyDone · 03/12/2017 23:41

FFS.

raisinsarenottheonlyfruit · 03/12/2017 23:42

That poor baby in the second link.

It's all about validating the fucking transwoman's ego.

Agree the baby and mother should have been allowed to bond without interference.

BlogOfTheNothing · 03/12/2017 23:45

So just to be clear.

A 'cis' woman is just a woman.

Anyone who is a man that decides he is really a she/woman is a transwoman.

?

Why is 'cis' needed to just describe a woman?

WTF is a terf?

I'm so confused with all these names

Sentimentallentil · 03/12/2017 23:46

I think it’s really interesting because this topic has opened my eye to my own socialisation as a woman than any other topic. I am fucking terrified of not being (or seen to be being) compassionate or putting someone else’s feelings above my own.
Radical feminists are about as non gender conforming as its possible to get, they are angry, don’t care what men think of them and speak out for themselves.

PerfectlyDone · 03/12/2017 23:49

"Trans exclusive radical feminist" - and yes, it's a slur.
Fantastic violence is threatened all over the inter web for people with gender critical opinions.

It took MN to teach me that RadFems are not all about getting rid of all men, but about logically thinking things through to their conclusion.
I am far more of a RadFem then I ever though - took me to 50 to recognise it Grin

BlogOfTheNothing · 03/12/2017 23:52

Wow. Seems nuts to me. A woman is a woman, a transwoman is a transwoman. Seems simple to me. Basic biology isn't it.

OldCrone · 03/12/2017 23:57

TERF = Telling Everyone Real Facts

bambambini · 03/12/2017 23:59

Just been reading some threads on twitter tonight where a group of TW from a FB feminist group are discussing/planning removing feminists they don’t like (evil terfs) from a Wikipedia List of Feminists page and replace them with proper feminists like Paris Lees, Laverne Cox etc (Transwomen) - so yes, that sounds a bit like erasure to me.

Sentimentallentil · 04/12/2017 00:00

www.breastfeedingbasics.com/qa/can-men-breastfeed

So apparently males have all the necessary equipment to produce milk anyway and it’s just the hormones that are needed.

Sentimentallentil · 04/12/2017 00:01

Paris Lees???? Paris fucking Lees????????

The same Paris Lees who said getting cat called is flattering and we should just get over it, that one???

PerfectlyDone · 04/12/2017 00:03

Sentimentallentil, 'tis true, men do have milk glands, they can get breast cancer and they can (very rarely, usually due to prolactin producing tumours) lactate.

Sentimentallentil · 04/12/2017 00:12

Sorry I didn’t explain my point very well, my point was that the fact that this person is trans is irrelevant, it doesn’t make them anymore of a woman.

GetMeOutOfHerePlease · 04/12/2017 00:12

Sex is a biological reality.
Sex can’t be changed or chosen.
Sex is observed at birth not assigned.
Transwomen are not females.

To the women who argue that being female isn’t biological, how do you know you are a woman? If you were to change the dictionary meaning of woman, what would you write that isn’t biology based?

If everyone on this thread asked our male partners, or male relatives how they know they are male, what do we think they’d answer? If they answered because they have a penis, or mention biology, would the ones who say linking sex to biology is transphobic and bigoted be telling them they are wrong and bigoted?

I’ll ask my dh tomorrow, I’ll also ask my brother.

TinklyLittleLaugh · 04/12/2017 00:25

I'm not really bothered about stuff like Top Shop changing rooms.

I'm bothered about women's spaces and opportunities being taken by people who have not lived their lives as women.

I'm worried about little kids taking hormones and teens having surgeries that will afffect their health for the rest of their lives.

I'm worried about the erasure of gay people.

Jakeyboy1 · 04/12/2017 00:26

Speem donor and breast feeder in one? Why not just make yourself pregnant then seeing as you've got all the bits?! Ffs. That'll be next.

Betty185 · 04/12/2017 00:26

And then there was this:

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/3090164-Google-women-killed-in-2016-you-won-t-believe-the-result

Despite there being no reported murders of trans women in the UK in 2016:

Jakeyboy1 · 04/12/2017 00:27

*sperm not speem (!)

GetMeOutOfHerePlease · 04/12/2017 00:38

@perfectlydone

There’s also Chloe Jennings (I think that was the name), I remember lots of articles about her wanting an operation to make her paralysed, how she fantasised abiut being in a ar crash that left her disabled, how she uses a wheelchair. Most people in comments etc said it’s wrong for her to be able to use resources fought for by and intended for disable people.

Article and shows made no mention of Chole being a trans woman, so if she lives as a woman and is recognised as a woman, why can’t she be accepted as a disabled person and receive disability benefits and access disability resources as she lives as a disabled person?

There’s also Racheal Dolziel who lived as a black woman and generated a shit load of anger when it was revealed she was born white.

I’ll find links in morning.

Walnutwhiplash · 04/12/2017 00:39

Trans activists just shout transphobe and run off
That's not strictly true: sometimes they throw punches too. Anything to stifle debate, shut women up and stop them asserting their long fought for and hard won rights. Transactivists don't think transwomen are women: they think they're better than women. Transactivists are unashamed in their misogyny.

PerfectlyDone · 04/12/2017 00:41

Yes, I remember the furore about Rachael Dolziel who worked for an African-American organisation, didn't she?

Anyway, I identify as tired and am off to bed Smile

willsa · 04/12/2017 00:46

It looks like a walrus, it sounds like a walrus, it must be a !

Maryz · 04/12/2017 00:56

Getting back to the op, the tweet seems to be saying that only TERFs Hmm think that breastfeeding and giving birth are for women, is that right?

That second article is weird. So he (or she? I'm not sure) is a sperm donor and a Mom? Why not be a father (biologically) and a mum/dad (I don't care) in real life? Lots of babies have two mums or two dads, most of them don't go into detail about their conception.

The first article is irrelevant to transwomen isn't it? I mean, it's about transplanting uteruses (uteri?) into women, I don't think anyone is near transplanting one into a man yet.

As for cis [bleurgh]. I'm going to call lemons trans oranges from now on. And call oranges cis-oranges so no-one is confused.
