The erosion of women

IHATEPeppaPig · 03/12/2017 22:14

I know, I know 'not another Trans thread' BUT, I am truly interested in people's opinions on this - I was always of the thought that I don't really care how anyone expresses themselves, carry on as you wish and I do still think this to varying degrees but I am concerned about the Trans agenda moving forwards and the erosion of women and reading through Twitter I found the following articles attached to this tweet:

I'm not personally interested in breastfeeding or giving birth. But the #terf assumption that these abilities are "biologically" reserved for AFAB is just one thing: wrong.

www.nytimes.com/2017/12/02/health/uterus-transplant-baby.html

www.thestranger.com/queer-issue-2017/2017/06/21/25225867/my-first-time-breastfeeding-my-daughter

Now, I found the second article creepy - particularly where they mention that they 'got off' on breastfeeding and I'm not entirely sure how factual it actually is but it's scary that people are using this to prove how defunct 'ciswomen' (I HATE this term) are?

Please don't refer to me as a cis woman. I find it offensive on a very deep level. It affects me in the same way that I instinctively recoiled when I was called 'half caste' as a child.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 03/12/2017 22:32

Trans identified males are just that, males...

Women do not and never will, and never have had penises.

Lesbians are solely attracted to same sex, eg females. They are not attracted to trans identified males, and they like vulvas not penises.

None of this is transphobic, or astounding, or controversial, just your basic, ordinary facts.

Thehairthebod · 03/12/2017 22:32

There's plenty of stuff out there if you use google

No, I want to engage with someone who disagrees with me on this. Someone who isn't going to just shout 'transphobe' and then bugger off.

How exactly are transwomen women. How do you define 'woman'? I have not come across anyone who has been able to answer thus question at all. Please, genuinely, enlighten me.

TiredOfThisAll · 03/12/2017 22:36

Well no, transwomen are not women.

Some of them were natal males who were brought up as boys and then lived as men, with all the social expectations and privilege that brings. Dress, hormones, surgery (if they have had it) do not turn them into natal females who were brought up as girls and lived as women with all the associations and risks of that.

Some of them grew up as overtly feminine boys and wanted to be able to be feminine, rather than masculine.

Neither category are women or can become women, unless you change the meaning of woman from adult female human being.

bellasuewow · 03/12/2017 22:36

I have never seen a Reasoned argument in support of trans rights despite asking. Trans activists just shout transphobe and run off. I have a dd and it really concerns me.

ringle · 03/12/2017 22:40

People are indeed strange, @=lljkk

pombal · 03/12/2017 22:40

I wonder if breastfeeding would have been more successful if it had been left to the mother in the second link.

Maybe her milk woul have come in if breastfeeding hadn’t been interrupted by the partner trying to feed baby.

IHATEPeppaPig · 03/12/2017 22:40

@LemonShark that's unfair, I am extremely liberal and would (and do) fight for the equality for all - like I said, people can express themselves as they wish to but you can't silence women for wanting to express themselves at the expense of that agenda, surely?

I do think that biological sex matters - in wanting to discuss pregnancy/breastfeeding etc. as a woman's issue shouldn't get me labelled a 'terf' surely?

OP posts:
Jaxhog · 03/12/2017 22:49

What's a TERF?

Viviennemary · 03/12/2017 22:49

Not many people in real life are invested so heavily in this. I don't think transwomen are women as I understand the word. I think it is a concern that transwomen will now be competing in women's sports at a considerable advantage. And I don't like tiny children being told that they can choose whether to be a boy or a girl. They can't.

Originalfoogirl · 03/12/2017 22:49

I’ve never seen a Reasoned argument in support of trans rights despite asking

You mean you haven’t seen one you agree with.

My reasoned argument would be; because nobody should be discriminated against for any reason and certainly not because of fear, ignorance or intolerance.

Reasoned enough?

Originalfoogirl · 03/12/2017 22:51

nd I don't like tiny children being told that they can choose whether to be a boy or a girl. They can't

Why can’t they?

mirime · 03/12/2017 22:51

@pombal yes, for all the research they seemed to have missed out that it does take a few days for your milk to come in and all about colostrum.

And can people drop the TERF thing? I don't give a shit it someone wants to dress how they like and change their name, I know three trans women, I use 'she' and 'her' and use the name they choose, why wouldn't I?They're all happier than they were before.

None of them come out with any of the crap that TRAs and their supporters come out with, for example that rape\abuse survivors are personally responsible for the oppression of trans women if they have a problem with penises.

AssassinatedBeauty · 03/12/2017 22:51

Um, biology?

IHATEPeppaPig · 03/12/2017 22:51

@Jaxhog a Trans exclusionary radical feminist. From what I have read people who are gender critical and believe biological sex matters are terfs.

OP posts:
MissBax · 03/12/2017 22:51

Because science

Thehairthebod · 03/12/2017 22:55

What, you think a child can choose whether the are a boy or a girl? Confused

IHATEPeppaPig · 03/12/2017 22:56

@Originalfoogirl well biology has a big part to play. I don't agree with gender stereotypes and will allow my children to express themselves as they wish but I'm not going to deny their biological sex.

It is a fact that a large percentage of gender dysphoric children do not end up Trans as an adult and it resolves on its own.

OldCrone · 03/12/2017 22:56

Do you really think people can change sex?

Can someone explain why if a man identifies as a woman, and wears "female" clothes he can become a "woman" and that's ok. But if that same (white) man were to black up and identify as a, say, mixed heritage man that's not ok. I genuinely struggle with the trans woman arguments.

HidingBehindTheWallpaper · 03/12/2017 23:04

How is believing that having a vagina makes you a woman be considered a 'radical feminist' notion?

I support trans men and women I really do. They have a fight to fight and I am behind them.
But don't tell me I am being a woman wrong and don't come and take the hard fought for women only spaces etc from me.

OldCrone

Yup. I do. It’s not for me to say what defines gender. But if someone goes to the trouble of years of therapy both medical and emotional and risks losing everything in their life, who am I to decide they are not what they wish to be presented as.

C0untDucku1a · 03/12/2017 23:05

original actually no not reasoned enough. The issue is the discrimination women face due to trans women having more rights to women only spaces. And women's sports. Or can women no longer be discriminated against?
