To Be Delighted for Harry and Meghan?

I know there are lots who have no time for the Royals but as a mother I'm delighted that Harry has found his match. I'm also quite thrilled that he's gone against the grain for his atypical princess! Think Diana would have been proud to see him follow his heart.

Something nice to distract the peasants.

This was my first thought. Great timing to take attention away from the tanking of the economy and the god awful shit show that are the brexit negotiations.

HolyCreamola · 27/11/2017 13:10

The DM's headline couldn't be any more pointed...

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle to marry in the spring after he proposed earlier this month as the Queen says she is 'delighted' divorced American actress is to join the royal family

HolyCreamola · 27/11/2017 13:11

That lunatic Kate Hoey was on the radio this morning ranting about Ireland and how Ireland would need to pay for any border costs.

But now everyone is cooing over the wedding news.

SilenceIsBroken · 27/11/2017 13:12

"people who moan about wasting our taxes need to change the record."

Yes why don't we all be smilingly uncritical and obsequiously grateful that we still have a taxpayer-funded monarchy?

As a mother I am just as happy for him as I am for anyone tying the knot. Actually scratch that - I'm happier for anyone who's not spending taxpayer money on their wedding and future wife.

MrsJayy · 27/11/2017 13:13

Yes I am sure granny said American divorced actress Grin

chipscheeseandcurrysauce · 27/11/2017 13:15

I wish them happiness... I wonder if there will be another royal wedding bank holiday! I hope so.

BarbarianMum · 27/11/2017 13:41

It takes away the mystique and unique heritage of it all

Spend a couple of hours reading some history and you'll realise that all the "unique heritage" amounts to is the vaguries of chance, disease resistence, horse trading and who's grandfather/father was a bigger murdering bastard than the next. God didn't really descend from heaven and bestow them with the divine right of kings you know.

LakieLady · 27/11/2017 13:46

We went to a theme park when William got married

We left the country, and went to Bruges for the weekend.

Taffeta · 27/11/2017 13:51

Won’t get a day off he’s not important enough

Hope he’s happy, seems like a generally decent bloke who lives a weird life and lost his mum young. Other than that, couldn’t give a shit.

Alwaysinmyheart · 27/11/2017 14:32

This lady trotted down to Kensington Palace in the freezing cold, wearing her Union Jack outfit "just to be in the atmosphere " #bonkers

To Be Delighted for Harry and Meghan?
MrsJayy · 27/11/2017 14:41

That lady was interviewed before for somethng else maybe the queens birthday ? Anyway she had the jacket on

Sparklingbrook · 27/11/2017 14:43

I do think it was a good idea to keep the reporters a long way away over the lake/pond. I would think the media are still not Harry's favourite people.

Sparklingbrook · 27/11/2017 14:43

Sorry wrong thread! There's so many of them...

scrabbler3 · 27/11/2017 14:46

I like that he's made his own choice rather than going along with a marriage to a suitable braying aristo. Prince William also married for love and appears to be content. Both princes seem pretty sensible, goodness knows where they get it from.

The pushy upper middle class parents who tried to get their daughters into his circle will be gutted today. Mrs Middleton already succeeded where they did not - and Meghan's parents weren't even trying!

There'll be some frothing on the Daily Fail comments section. Mixed heritage, second marriage, American. Tut tut tut. 😂

WitchesHatRim · 27/11/2017 14:48

I wonder if there will be another royal wedding bank holiday! I hope so.

Very much doubt it

The80sweregreat · 27/11/2017 14:52

We were not given a bank holiday day off when Andrew and Sarah Ferguson were married. I very much doubt we will for this wedding.

redexpat · 27/11/2017 14:53

I love a wedding. Especially royal ones because you get to indulge in excellent wedding porn. Honestly I can spend time on fb looking at wedding pics of people I went to school with and never get bored.

WitchesHatRim · 27/11/2017 14:53

We were not given a bank holiday day off when Andrew and Sarah Ferguson were married

Nor Edward and Sophie

SleepingStandingUp · 27/11/2017 14:56

I just hope the press dont start the "Kate good, Megan bad"
I reckon it'll be boring princess and fun princess.

RoseWhiteTips · 27/11/2017 15:02

EdmundCleverClogs

‘They need to get on with making babies’

‘He hasn’t chosen an appropriate English rose’

‘Oh I can’t wait to see what the pretty lady wears’

Have half the posters time travelled to this thread from 50 years ago hmm.

And as for

An American divorcée from a lower middle class background, an actress

I called her an America divorcee as a tongue in cheek comment earlier, but the fact this is a slightly against her in this day and age is utterly ridiculous. As for being ‘lower middle class’, from what I’ve read of her, she’s from an ‘Old Hollywood’ family, and was privately educated. Old Hollywood is practically America’s version of royalty, not to talk about her actual linage goes back to the Royals on her father’s side. She’s no Eliza Doolittle for god sake.

She is Canadian.

The80sweregreat · 27/11/2017 15:02

The press will cause tension even if there isn't any! Kate or Meghan will only have to frown ( about something unrelated) and it will be splashed around how ' they dont get on' or something like that.

formerbabe · 27/11/2017 15:07

We left the country, and went to Bruges for the weekend

How fabulous for you. You really are so much better than the plebs who sat at home watching it

derxa · 27/11/2017 15:08

Some people have drunk a cup of poisoned bile today. It's even more nasty than the Serena Williams wedding thread.
