To Be Delighted for Harry and Meghan?

I know there are lots who have no time for the Royals but as a mother I'm delighted that Harry has found his match. I'm also quite thrilled that he's gone against the grain for his atypical princess! Think Diana would have been proud to see him follow his heart.

I mean, hypothetically, if in 10 years MM wants to bugger off back to the states with hers and Harry's offspring, what's to stop her?

Well the courts. Just as they could if anyone was going to do the same.

squoosh · 28/11/2017 20:43

No, she can't up sticks and take off back to the States once there's a kid on the scene.

squoosh · 28/11/2017 20:47

They have known each other 16/17 months.

And quite a lot of this will have been long distance I presume. I agree she's completely caught up in the whirlwind of it all and I can see it being a massive adjustment to make from carefree, slightly famous actor, with lovely Californian lifestyle -> one of the most photographed women in the world living quite regimented and prim life as a royal.

Edward VIII abdicated ‘for Myself and My descendants’ but that was because the Establishment didn’t want any potential future children of Edward and Wallis to be able to make a claim. There was no provision in law for the abdication of a monarch, so there had to be an Act of Parliament, but that Act could have provided for the abdication to have been just for the current monarch, as has been done in the Netherlands with both Queen Juliana and Queen Beatrix. It is pretty much established that Parliament has the right to alter the succession, after all, that’s why the current dynasty is on the throne anyway.

SleepingStandingUp · 28/11/2017 21:21

If William abdicated, the whole line forfeits. Then Harry would be King. If Charles abdicated, Andrew would be King

I don't think that right. If the queen abdicates tomorrow because she's old and cat cope any longer it would go to Charles. Same if Charles then abdicates etc .

I was struck by how elated and in love M is, but H looked wary and sober, like he knows that she has no bloody idea what is coming at her. I do hope she can rise to the challenge though. He deserves to be happy after the shit he's been through.

TakemedowntoPotatoCity · 28/11/2017 21:42

I can't help but think that she will miss her acting career, and it has been something of a whirlwind. Well, good luck to them.

I would expect they'll do a lot of high profile charity work and they have a common bond in that respect.
He does sod all except pop to a rugby or football match & claims it's work, she's done a bit of the standard photo-op charity work. So I guess they have a common bond in laziness.
...... this is 100% not true... my husband worked alongside him in Afghanistan... in fact he was the one who had to pull him off the field when the media let it slip that he was there... my husband is a hard task master and not easily impressed or pleased... he had nothing but praise for Harry and the way he worked out there**

Viviennemary · 28/11/2017 22:31

A breath of fresh air. The royals don't like fresh air. They like the same stuffy air they've had for centuries. The same was said about Fergie. And look how that ended. It was a disaster. As will this be. I said it first.

Battleax · 28/11/2017 22:34

You said it lots Smile

MissEliza · 28/11/2017 22:58

I don't mind if the marriage doesn't last forever as long as they preserve a bit of self respect. Looking back, the break up of Charles' and even Andrew's marriages was bloody embarrassing. The amount of dirty laundry that go aired in public was shocking!

peelthecarrots · 29/11/2017 10:36

Sorry to sound like a miserable cow but I couldn't care less!! The country is in a crisis...many families can't afford decent food and heating...people are freezing to death. The royals are a bunch of self serving leeches. Sorry to offend anyone but I feel livid that they live off hard working common people.

nursy1 · 29/11/2017 10:51

I’m pleased for them. Not thrilled though??
I just don’t think it’s appropriate to have a big state wedding at a time like this. Are we all going to press our noses up against the window and watch the already over privileged stuff down another 7 course banquet?
Let em get married quietly with family and friends - good luck to them

Battleax · 29/11/2017 10:55

Too bloody right peel.

I didn't realise at first quite how much this will cost. It's obscene.

Leapfrog44 · 29/11/2017 16:41

whatever. I dislike the whole idea of a family born into such wealth and privilege whose lives are funded by the tax payer.

It's time we got rid of this stupid institution and they can all fuck off.

Acrosstheuniverse123 · 02/12/2017 09:39

Its being paid for by the Royal family, out of their private funds, not the tax payer. They are having a smaller wedding at St George's chapel, not a state wedding. They can't win, can they? Would you rather they went to a registry office and had a knees up in the pub? They are doing all they can not to seem like privileged toffs, and they genuinely care about causes helping the under privileged, as seen by their trip to Nottingham yesterday.

Acrosstheuniverse123 · 02/12/2017 09:40

Such a lot of butchery and spite, it is truly depressing

Acrosstheuniverse123 · 02/12/2017 09:41

bitchery

lightlite · 02/12/2017 19:39

They can't win can they Well they could, just stop taking taxpayers hard earned money and stand down. Earn their own money then no one will complain about them. As it is now people have a right to complain, about anything and everything they do simply because they shouldn't be.......and no they aren't paying for it themselves, one way or the other the taxpayer funds their lifestyle, their "private funds" have also come from the taxpayer.......

and they genuinely care about causes helping the under privileged, as seen by their trip to Nottingham yesterday
Oh please, these trips they take to show that they care for the under privileged are all done for public relation purposes. They have to turn up for good causes, they have to be seen doing something to justify the huge income they receive. The royal family don't give a flying fuck about the under privileged, they care about themselves and that's it.
