To Be Delighted for Harry and Meghan?

I know there are lots who have no time for the Royals but as a mother I'm delighted that Harry has found his match. I'm also quite thrilled that he's gone against the grain for his atypical princess! Think Diana would have been proud to see him follow his heart.

People who say they love the royal family are needy idiots.

And people who say anyone with a different opinion to them is an idiot are twats.

ethelfleda · 27/11/2017 12:15

YANBU
I am happy for them too.

Bejazzled · 27/11/2017 12:16

Yadnbu, but I suspect there will be several who won't agree

Nikephorus · 27/11/2017 12:18

I would expect they'll do a lot of high profile charity work and they have a common bond in that respect.
He does sod all except pop to a rugby or football match & claims it's work, she's done a bit of the standard photo-op charity work. So I guess they have a common bond in laziness.

Tax freedom day was June 12th this year. Every penny I earned from the Ist January until then has been taken in tax. There are far better things it could be spent on than this wedding.

The cost of the security operation around it is going to be astronomical and all funded by the public.

LagunaBubbles · 27/11/2017 12:22

Will we get extra bank holidays, like we did for William?

Must admit that was my first thought to! Grin

MrsJayy · 27/11/2017 12:23

Harry is heavily involved in the invictus games not exactly lazy and popping to the football

ReasonableLlama · 27/11/2017 12:23

I was excited until I found out it's unlikely we will get a day off to celebrate spend in the pub

marvincocker · 27/11/2017 12:25

Something nice to distract the peasants.

AlmaSedgewick · 27/11/2017 12:27

All this "Diana would be proud", "Diana would have loved Kate", "Diana would have been a doting granny" makes me cringe. Diana was a narcissist, completely self-absorbed and very immature. I think she'd have been mad jealous of the younger royals, would have been the ultimate scheming MIL and probably wouldn't have enjoyed being made a granny at 52.

I hope Harry and Megan will be very happy as a couple, I would wish that for anyone starting out.

But she is not royal bride material. You can only keep the whole daft dog and pony show going if everyone plays the correct parts. An American divorcée from a lower middle class background, an actress who has been seen by most semi-naked and writhing about with her on-screen lovers is just not the right person for the job.

The job of his wife? Of course, why not? But the job of princess of the realm - nope, sorry. It makes an absolute joke of it all. Come on, the girl from Suits being curtseyed to and called a duchess? It takes away the mystique and unique heritage of it all and without that what do you have???

theaveragewife · 27/11/2017 12:31

Couldn't give a fuck, but from the interviews I've read she seems brilliant - a great role model, and I'd rather my children look to someone like that than the playboy models and wags the papers continually promoted when I grew up.

feral · 27/11/2017 12:32

Couldn't give a shit other than to think poor Mike arias is gonna be heartbroken 😉

feral · 27/11/2017 12:32

BrizzleDrizzle · 27/11/2017 12:32

As long as we get some extra time off work then I'm happy.

octonaught · 27/11/2017 12:33

Well I am looking forward to the announcement at 2pm.
My money is on an Aquamarine ring - Diana's old one
Bet Meghan wears White, or something pale.
Bet Mario Testino has been already booked to do the photos!
I am so shallow, but so excited after all the speculation.
Next Spring is going to be so exciting with the new Royal baby & the wedding!!

Elendon · 27/11/2017 12:34

Re the Invictus Games: Harry is the Patron. This is how some of the money to stage the event happened.

I like the royal family, but this has bored me.

NancyDonahue · 27/11/2017 12:42

After his revelation about his mental health problems following the death of his mother when he was a child, I'm pleased Harry has found someone that makes him happy.

She's 36. They'll need to get a move on making some gorgeous babies! I bloody love the babies. Maybe she's already preggers!

SusannahL · 27/11/2017 12:42

Interestingly her sister doesn't have a good word to say about her and is apparently currently writing a book entitled something like 'Pushy Princess'

Of course it could all be sour grapes on her part.
I cringed though when Meghan did that glossy mag interview. Very tacky.

That young woman has got a lot to learn.

This

BuzzKillington · 27/11/2017 12:49

I just don't understand the interest. The media's going to be full of all this sycophantic bollocks now for months.

We went to a theme park when William got married, thinking it would be nice and quiet.

It was rammed. Full of like-minded republicans.

HadronCollider · 27/11/2017 12:54

Not sure what you mean by this. Her parents worked. She has worked. Would it have been more mystical if he had married a girl from one of the home counties?

LaurieMarlow · 27/11/2017 13:00

I'm no fan of the institution, but I wish them all well as individuals. I'm pissed at tax payers money being spent on it, but at least I'll get more out of this wedding than I get out of the £££s spent on Prince Charles' private jets.

Harry's not my favourite royal, but I have respect for him in choosing someone who diverges so much from expectations. I like her; she comes across as a good person with a social conscience. I expect she'll be harder to control/keep to the party line than Kate - and that's a good thing in my eyes. Hopefully she'll shake stuff up a bit.

Is it just me or does she look very like Kate?

LaurieMarlow · 27/11/2017 13:03

So would you prefer her to have sat on her arse after university aside from one short lived piddly little job like Kate did? Would that make her more worthy of respect? what bloody strange reasoning

EdmundCleverClogs · 27/11/2017 13:04

‘They need to get on with making babies’

‘He hasn’t chosen an appropriate English rose’

‘Oh I can’t wait to see what the pretty lady wears’

Have half the posters time travelled to this thread from 50 years ago Hmm.

And as for

An American divorcée from a lower middle class background, an actress

I called her an America divorcee as a tongue in cheek comment earlier, but the fact this is a slightly against her in this day and age is utterly ridiculous. As for being ‘lower middle class’, from what I’ve read of her, she’s from an ‘Old Hollywood’ family, and was privately educated. Old Hollywood is practically America’s version of royalty, not to talk about her actual linage goes back to the Royals on her father’s side. She’s no Eliza Doolittle for god sake.
