because I haven't got any clue. Literally no ideas at all.....and people are going to ask me what I'd like, and I'm just going to sound like an idiot saying, "I don't really want/need anything" just like I do every year.

So please tell me what you want so I can pass it off as my own opinion....

This board game.

Some more Elizabeth Gaskell novels as North and South was absolutely bloody brilliant and I can't believe I've got to 42 years of age and never read any Gaskell before.

Gin.

SilverDragonfly1 · 24/11/2017 14:13

It is hard isn't it? I've asked my son and his partner for a really good pencil sharpener and my mum for a rubber broom. I don't really need much else (and I only held off buying them so I'd have something to ask for).

I haven't got a list (yet). But if you don't know what to suggest, how about:

--perishables like nice food and drink. Maybe a grade above what you normally buy for yourself (posh olive oil, chutneys, wine etc)

-- a replacement item for a luxury or practical item that is wearing out (e.g. slippers, PJs, cashmere jumper, scarf)

-- an upgrade for an everyday item that you use all the time (e.g. good quality pans or kitchen knives to replace cheap ones)

-- a charity gift for a third-world or homelessness charity, or a local charity that is close to your heart

-- book tokens or Amazon vouchers so you can choose yourself

-- voucher for something you like doing (cinema, manicure, luxury afternoon tea for two, anything really)

-- if you're really fussy and don't like change then ask for supplies of your favourite perishable product (ask them to buy you a particular brand of chocolate, biscuits, shower gel, lipstick etc that you usually buy for yourself)

Hoorrray ideas! Thank you for trying....

Now I'm probably going to shoot them all down like a total misery guts...

I have slippers from 2 xmas ago that I never wear...so that's out.

So I'm actually loving new PJs plus dressing gown...because I have been getting cold at night and have had the same dressing gown for the last 15 years...the thought of getting a new one hadn't occurred!

Don't drink and am overweight so chocolates/booze are out.

Not sure what I would do with a nice candle...(I mean I know what they are for, but not sure it wouldn't just end up in a draw somewhere)

hmmm I don't do make up or baths as such....

what is a spiralizer?

I don't have a phone or a whatever you call items of the Alexa genre...what are they for exactly?

So many ideas though - thank you!

I do need a new grip for my badminton racket...and actually some new badminton shoes!
