I love them - the undisputed king of burgers surely?

Just checking back in to this thread to confirm that I ordered EXTRA tartare sauce last night for the first time ever. It was absolutely fantastic! Thank you Mumsnet Grin

OliviaStabler · 26/11/2017 12:48

I ordered extra tartare sauce and they didn't put it on!

They probably did; a lot of the time customers don't notice and/or realise when we've added extra. Filet burgers have one shot of tartar as standard; extra gets you two.

ForalltheSaints · 26/11/2017 16:15

No, and I do not visit McDonalds.

Yep, it isn't always obvious that more has been added. I've had stuff come back when I've seen extra sauce added (or done it myself)

SenecaFalls · 26/11/2017 17:15

This thread is making me really hungry for one. We've been eating Thanksgiving leftovers for days and I have been staying home to avoid the Black Friday weekend madness. I just might have head out to McD's for my lunch.

PickAChew · 26/11/2017 17:17

I love a fish finger sandwich but a filet of fish is bland, too small and too sweet.

NamasteNiki · 27/11/2017 00:10

GFY. I can just see you clutching your pearls.

OliviaStabler · 27/11/2017 11:41

Really? Maybe it is the bun? I love them. Will hope to eat some over Christmas!

mrsnec · 27/11/2017 12:01

Sometimes they do them with sweet chilli sauce here and they're lovely. I am not religious but I only visit McDonald's here when we are near big religious festivals as the orthodox fasting menu items are delicious. The shrimp burger in foccacia is amazing but far too small again.

Trailedanderror · 27/11/2017 12:05

They're delicious. Many moons ago they were the fish option instead of fish fingers in happy meals. In Sweden. Wink

Trinity66 · 27/11/2017 12:09

Got one the last time I was in McDonalds actually, them or a quarter pounder with cheese is my usual order from there

Trailedanderror · 27/11/2017 13:32

Thanks OP!!

NamasteNiki · 28/11/2017 16:46

I was going to try one today. However £3:10 for it. With only half a slice of cheese.

Nah. Belongs on the 99p saver menu at that size.

WhatToDoAboutThis2017 · 28/11/2017 23:04

NamasteNiki The fish costs more than a saver menu items do, hence the Filet's higher price.

The ingredients that go in the saver items are considerably less than the fish, which is sustainable.

So no, it doesn't belong on the saver menu.

(Oh and you only get a half slice because a full one is too powerful a taste for the majority of people. Feel free to ask for extra cheese for an additional 20p, though.)

JustBeingJobless · 28/11/2017 23:29

I love fillet of fish and always have to wait ages for it to be cooked so I know it’s fresh.

WhatToDoAboutThis2017 · 28/11/2017 23:35

Filet's take 3 minutes and 15 seconds to cook.

One thing to note (for everyone, not you personally) is that it's fast food, not instant food Grin

WhatToDoAboutThis2017 · 29/11/2017 00:21

Beaniebeemer I have a couple of things to say in response to that clip Grin

  1. People seem to think we are mind readers. Newsflash: we are not. We don't know if you want it as a meal unless you tell us that. The majority of people do want it as a meal yet don't say so, hence the need to ask if you want it as a meal (and then, when you don't specify, if you want it as a medium or large meal).
  1. Don't just come in and ask for "a coffee". We have several coffees. The answer "just a regular one" to my question of "What coffee?" is not an acceptable one! Because when you say that, my next question is "so a black or a white one?" Quite often the answer is a Latte, in which case you didn't want "just a regular coffee" after all.

Please don't make me drag your order out of you like I'm trying to get blood out of a stone! It's just frustrating for the both of us.

Do you like the fact that you can order from the machines instead now? Or do people spend just as much time faffing about there as they do at the till Grin

TheNaze73 · 29/11/2017 07:44

They are rank. And I love fish

A question about the order machines if you don't mind me asking. There are always huge queues at our McDonald's so I use the machines. Why though are there sometimes items not available to order? My Dd likes the smoothies with her meal. Sometimes they are on there and other times not. It then means I have to queue up and then can order a smoothie at the counter. The staff never seem to know why it isn't available on the machine screen. Thanks

NamasteNiki · 29/11/2017 08:17

They are Hoki fish so although so I am not sure how it is sustainable.

There have been cover ups about the sustainability certification because of the bottom trawling methods used which endanger dolphins. Hoki is also from New Zealand...we live in the north Atlantic, plenty of fish without shipping fish from half way around the world.

WhatToDoAboutThis2017 · 29/11/2017 12:11

Do you like the fact that you can order from the machines instead now? Or do people spend just as much time faffing about there as they do at the till

If they faff about at the kiosk, it doesn't really matter, as long as they're not messing about with the customisation feature as that fucks with the kitchen (every time you customise an item, a machine in the kitchen prints a ticket so you can stick it on the wrapper. Messing about produces a plethora of tickets, and will get you kicked out if you continue doing it after being told).

It does annoy me in the mornings/evenings when we only have one counter crew member on and they're quite clearly doing everything, when people who want to pay by card come to the till. Use the kiosk in that situation! Then the crew member isn't having to stop doing everyone else's orders just to take yours.

In our store, we have a percentage of 49% kiosk orders to 51% till orders.

Why though are there sometimes items not available to order?

What's happened is that those items have run out or the machine has broken and we can't do blended ice/milkshakes/ice creams etc. So the manager takes them off the kiosks and tills so they can't be ordered.

In your case, the manager has forgotten to put them back on as available to order when we now have them or the machine is working again.

Usually they forget to do both kiosk and tills, but sometimes if it's busy and someone's asked for it at the till, they'll quickly add it to the till again so said customer can purchase it and then make a note to add it all properly later. (Adding/removing items from tills and kiosks isn't a quick job.)

NamasteNiki McDonalds follows the Marine Stewardship Council and places their trust in them to make sure they're only using sustainable fish.

QuestionableMouse · 29/11/2017 13:33

I spent a good ten minutes this morning taking things off the till and order points. It's a bloody pain in the arse job.

The order points are good if you're not quite sure what you want because you can see all of the options. If you get stuck, you can ask the dining area staff for a hand. (grey or checked shirts)

Same as if you have a complaint or are missing something. The dining area staff can help with that too.
