I love them - the undisputed king of burgers surely?

WinnerWinnerChickenDinner0 · 24/11/2017 13:38

Never had one but now I want one Grin
Although I love big Mac so much don’t know if I could go for a healthier option on my rare visit (when hungover 😵)

Bobbins43 · 24/11/2017 15:07

Ooh, BK Spicy Bean Burgers are SO NICE. I have mine without the tomatoes and ketchup and used to always get one at Euston on my way home from a day out in London :)

Bobbins43 · 24/11/2017 15:09

Totally going to ask for extra cheese on my FOF next time

Rebeccaslicker · 24/11/2017 15:09

Remember this advert anyone?

m.youtube.com/watch?v=RBakPV8TLhg

I remember running through a drive through at about midnight when we were about 17 and drunk and my friend ordering "a filet o' fish [for my viiiiife]" and thinking she was so funny BlushBlush

Nettletheelf · 24/11/2017 15:19

I don’t go to McD’s very often, only ever with children, but when I do I have FOF.

It always causes a sensation amongst the staff because they say that nobody ever orders them at that branch. One of the girls was quite vocal about why she didn’t like them...I ended up being FOF’s advocate because I couldn’t bear to see it maligned!

littlewoollypervert · 24/11/2017 15:26

sgtmajor I have just worked out I was there in 1990, so only a couple of yrs behind you.

I walked past the Bad Ass Café about 2 hrs ago!

Tigger001 · 24/11/2017 15:26

I love them.. ooh speckledust I have never thought of doing that and have always said they should sell the tartare sauce as an extra, similar to the ketchup size pots. I am definitely asking for extra next time as there is never enough. Oohh it is quite sad how happy I am with this now...McDonald's here I come for tea

Skyechasemarshalontheway · 24/11/2017 15:29

Another ex employee of mcdonalds when i was younger.

I like the fillet of fish but i switch the sauce for bbq or ranch :).

A cheese burger with fresh onion and ranch rauce is the best thing i used to make for my own lunch break.

Skyechasemarshalontheway · 24/11/2017 15:33

Tigger you can ask for tarte sauce in a little tub. They normally use a sundae carton top and put some in there if you ask.

Battleax · 24/11/2017 15:34

There'll be an MN-fuelled wave of bespoke FOF requests now Smile

tailspin · 24/11/2017 15:36

YES - my favourite. Like it more than burgers.

badasscafe1 · 24/11/2017 15:43

sgtmajor and littlewooly-- yes it was downstairs at Bruxelles for me....

Orangesox · 24/11/2017 15:45

Yessssss

No tartare sauce for me though, it gives me a horrendous migraine!

It's mine and one of my friends guilty secret that we tell our husbands we're going out for a meal, when we actually go to the maccies drive through and sit gossiping for hours Grin

Iamagreyhoundhearmeroar · 24/11/2017 15:48

Haven't seen one in years... They're not on the menu on any I've been to?

BarbaraofSevillle · 24/11/2017 15:48

I agree that there is too much tartare sauce in them so I scrape some off to dip fries in and then I put some fries in the sandwich so I eat tartae sauce with fries and then a FoF and fry sandwich.

I'm surprised at a PPs comment that they hardly sell any at her branch. I accept that they are less popular than burgers but I would have though they sold at least a few each lunch time.

I do get annoyed that there don't seem to be any discount vouchers for them (most that I see are for a Big Mac or chicken sandwich). If I wanted a Big Mac and fries I could get one for 1.99 almost any time, but FoF and fries is always about twice that, as there's never any offers going.

fairlyaverage · 24/11/2017 16:53

I quite like them but I used to really enjoy them a long time ago, thinking 1990s. Does anyone know if they have changed? Perhaps they use cheaper fish now and it used to be cod maybe? Just curious as to whether it's my jaded old tastebuds or if the recipe changed.

Battleax · 24/11/2017 16:56

In the 90s you could get them with root beer and really good sauce for your fries. Then you ate them in skinny rib and DMs. It's not quite the same now Sad

yawning801 · 24/11/2017 17:01

I want one right now! Can't be dealing with the tartar sauce though, so I order mine plain.

I always have to take mine apart and place the square of fish directly in the centre of the bun before I eat mine. Call me crazy!

myusernamewastaken · 24/11/2017 17:05

Oh god yes i love them....they are a food of the gods !!!

StatueInTheSky · 24/11/2017 17:11

its the only thing I have from there....with a chocolate milkshake.... YUM!!

I usually splodge the arted off into the box and use it to dip the chips in.

StatueInTheSky · 24/11/2017 17:12

arted!! ... tartar...I have been painting a ceiling all day and my fingers and shoulder are disconnected!

Robyrollover · 24/11/2017 17:14

My two DD's love them! I've never eaten anything from there.

LurkingHusband · 24/11/2017 17:14

Four (cod) fish fingers in a sandwich is a cheap alternative to buying pre-shaped "filets", if you fancy at home.

And (it's Colmans fault for dicking around with their sizing) Sainsburys own brand tartare sauce is very nice .....

BarbaraofSevillle · 24/11/2017 17:21

We never have tartare sauce or burger cheese in at home (must buy some tartare sauce) so my poor woman's home made alternative to the fish filet is fish fingers in warburton's toastie bread with cheese, gherkins and mayonnaise. Yum!

DP and I were planning to go out for nice street food and a couple of beers tonight, but I'm half thinking of suggesting McDonalds instead.

He'll think I've lost my mind because I would almost always choose anywhere except McDonalds and only really go when I'm out for work and it's the best/cheapest of a bad bunch at the service station.

weetabix07 · 24/11/2017 17:59

Love them but they are tiny compared to other sandwiches I reckon.
