I love them - the undisputed king of burgers surely?

Fillaaaaayy has been my McD's meal of choice for the last 30-odd years but I never realised I could order extra tartare sauce!!!! I'm SO ridiculously excited - going to go tomorrow and try it!

WhatToDoAboutThis2017 · 24/11/2017 19:48

Can you ask for extras when you order from the machine?

You can; just click "customise" on the kiosk and you can add/take anything off.

How much are they?

They vary slightly store to store due to corporate and franchised stores, but at mine they're £3.09 on their own or £4.59 in a medium meal (£4.99 for large, and of course drinks like milkshakes, McCafe and lattes cost extra).

If you want extra cheese or tartar sauce, it's an extra 20p (which will go through on the till as a select dip as there's no other button for it).

Haven't seen one in years... They're not on the menu on any I've been to?

They're available in every McDonalds in the UK. With the exception of test products, all McDonalds are uniform and sell exactly the same items.

I do get annoyed that there don't seem to be any discount vouchers for them (most that I see are for a Big Mac or chicken sandwich). If I wanted a Big Mac and fries I could get one for 1.99 almost any time, but FoF and fries is always about twice that, as there's never any offers going.

All the bus tickets that offer £1.99 Burger and fries give you a choice of Big Mac, Chicken Sandwich or Filet o Fish. They're also on the coupon pages given out and you can get them via the Food for Thought process - all £1.99.

Love them but they are tiny compared to other sandwiches I reckon.

It's a reg bun (the same bun used in Cheeseburgers, Hamburgers and Double Cheeseburgers), just steamed. So it is slightly smaller, yes.

I love working at McDonalds. It's a great company to work for, lovely colleagues and fantastic managers. Every day is fun and I really enjoy going to work.

That's great. My job at BK was my first, so I worked really hard. A colleague complained about me to the manager for not smiling enough when wiping tables (!)

MinervaSaidThar · 24/11/2017 22:33

@OliviaStabler

Gosh, I inhale my food so the spicy bean burger direct get a chance to disintegrate Grin

MinervaSaidThar · 24/11/2017 22:33

*doesn't not direct

BulletFox · 24/11/2017 22:35

Love 'em

BarbaraofSevillle · 24/11/2017 22:36

I do think McDs have a better reputation than BK for being a good employer. Years ago BK was slated because they made staff clock off without pay if the restaurant was quiet, so they'd go to work and earn even less than they expected.

Overall BKs almost never seem busy and McDs always do. Probably because in a lot of cases BK is more expensive for similar food, especially on motorways, stations etc.

In London, the free Metro paper often has FoF and fries deals vouchers for £1.99.

Plus, the staff are nice (and too busy) to bother to check if the voucher has expired!

justbinthefeckinbyebyebox · 24/11/2017 22:42

Forgot how much I love them!!!

Except, have to put up with the after taste, but very worth it!

Used to call them 'fish o fillet' and wondered why I got funny looks from the staff.Confused

BakedBeans47 · 24/11/2017 22:46

I have never had one, going to try it next time I take the kids to McD’s!

LadyCassandra · 24/11/2017 22:59

MinervaSaidThar I worked at BK from aged 16-19. The first two years were great, I worked at a motorway services and we were very well looked after. I went to university and worked for a city centre BK and it was awful. Chauvinistic, racist manager and no loyalty among colleagues. I left and worked in a bar instead!

Coffeeisnecessary · 24/11/2017 23:03

I wish they did double layered ones like a Big Mac. Yum!

MinervaSaidThar · 25/11/2017 00:23

LadyCassandra

Sounds similar to the branch I worked at! The bullying got so bad I snapped, told the assistant manager to 'fuck off and I quit' Blush

No idea how I had the nerve! BK's response? They begged me to move to another branch instead of quitting!

You'd think they'd treat their staff better if they wanted to reduce turnover.

sassymuffin · 25/11/2017 01:03

Coffeeisnecessary - Went to Florida for the first time in 2008, we were exhausted and hungry after the flight so went to McDonalds for a quick meal. They did a double fillet o fish, I don't know if it was a limited edition or a regular item but I still remember it fondly now Grin

I wish they would introduce it here as I am hungry an hour after eating a single one!

Temporary2002 · 25/11/2017 01:20

I love them, but make them at home with haddock fish sticks and a cheese slice. For some reason the McDonald's ones don't agree with me.

HitManHitMan · 25/11/2017 01:44

Didn't know you could get ranch at macdonalds?

Argeles · 25/11/2017 01:54

Ooh yes, they’re lovely, but not as lovely as a chicken McSandwich.

WhatToDoAboutThis2017 · 25/11/2017 02:42

Didn't know you could get ranch at macdonalds?

You can't (at least in the UK). We don't have it as a sauce to put on sandwiches nor as a dip.

WhatToDoAboutThis2017 · 25/11/2017 02:47

I'm surprised at a PPs comment that they hardly sell any at her branch. I accept that they are less popular than burgers but I would have though they sold at least a few each lunch time.

Nope. Maybe three a day, if that. And when we've worked in other stores in the region, it's just the same there.

A colleague complained about me to the manager for not smiling enough when wiping tables (!)

Sounds awful. In a job that can be very stressful, you really need to bond with your crew and get on well; our store is like a family which is just lovely.

SenecaFalls · 25/11/2017 03:30

I say fillay, but I'm American. It's the only way it's pronounced over here.

I love them, but I always ask for no cheese because I am a bit of a cheese snob and I am not fond of the so-called cheese they put on them here in the States. I also ask for about half the usual amount of tartar sauce sauce, but I hadn't thought of dipping my fries in it. Definitely need to try that.

It was my mom's favorite meal from Mickey D's too. So I have one every now and then in her memory. Smile

user1497997754 · 25/11/2017 07:02

Years ago they were much bigger now I have to order 2 as one doesn't fill me up

Halfpastthelegofmyshirt · 25/11/2017 08:20

I love them too. They are the only thing in a bun I ever order from McDs

georgie262 · 25/11/2017 09:04

Never had one, my best friend is Muslim so it's all she eats, I do like the spicy veg burgers though. Are they like fishfinger sandwiches?

MinervaSaidThar · 25/11/2017 09:09

They're soooo much nicer than a fishfinger sandwich, georgie.

OliviaStabler · 25/11/2017 12:29

@MinervaSaidThar Grin

I was very hungry but it fell apart while I was trying to eat it. I was sitting in my car at the time in a service station (didn't want to leave the cat alone too long in the car) and I made a huge mess but was very happy once finished Grin The coffee from BK was dreadful though, never again!
