I love them - the undisputed king of burgers surely?

I'm reminded of the fillet of fish jingle from Steve Wright's radio show when he was on radio 1. I'm showing my age.

WhatToDoAboutThis2017 · 24/11/2017 09:13

I've just Google mcdonalds fish filet half cheese slice. There's a lot of anger out there on the matter.

Funnily enough, I've never been asked for extra cheese on a filet. No/extra tartar sauce and swap tartar for mayo is quite common, but I've never had an extra cheese grill.

LaurieFairyCake · 24/11/2017 09:36

I'm the opposite, there's always WAY too much tartare sauce - it literally drips out - I always have to scrape it off and discard the half of the bun I scraped it off with

I like tartare sauce but I don't want it down my tits

Eminybob · 24/11/2017 10:00

I just watched the video, it was interesting indeed.
Although the presenters voice was both incredibly annoying and confusingly soothing Confused

I worked in McDonalds Grafton Street, Dublin In the mid 80s and always got two FoF (and a vanilla milkshake) with my worker's food allowance.

Here's why.
They're good value. Cheaper to get two than a Big Mac if I remember.
Freshly cooked.
If you remove the batter or ask for no sauce they aren't particularly fattening.
You could see the flakes of fish, so it wasn't made of fish pulp like some cheap fish fingers. Don't know nowadays.
If you told the crew member you were going on your break, they'd put in extra cheese or whatever you asked.
I LOVE the steamed bun.

McDonalds was my main meal of the day. I only kept coffee and cereals at home so I was trying to maximise nutrition to cost. My milkshake kept up my calcium levels (Irish milk-mmm!) and I'd buy an apple from the newsagent next door. Sorted.

MinervaSaidThar · 24/11/2017 11:28

What else would you call it?

Most peeps seem to pronounce it 'fill-et'

MinervaSaidThar · 24/11/2017 11:31

Sgt - how on earth do you get the batter off? There'd be nothing left!

I worked in BK and we got one burger, fries and a drink or doughnut as a free meal (spicy bean burger for me).

I always got the doughnut as we could have a drink from the drinks machine in quiet periods).

BK management was so bad. A really bullying culture. Hope it was just my branch.

problembottom · 24/11/2017 11:33

YES. On my annual visit to Maccie D's my order is a large filet-o-fish meal. Consumed with lots of ketchup.

Rebeccaslicker · 24/11/2017 11:34

Is anyone else really craving one for their lunch today?!

WhatToDoAboutThis2017 · 24/11/2017 11:35

We can get any medium meal on our breaks bar promo burgers and milkshakes/McCafe/bottled drinks.

(Though we are allowed to try the promo burgers once when they first come out. And of course we can buy anything else we want.)

I love working at McDonalds. It's a great company to work for, lovely colleagues and fantastic managers. Every day is fun and I really enjoy going to work.

badasscafe1 · 24/11/2017 11:41

Sgtmajormommy- amazing- at some point you must have given me my usual Fillet-cheeseburger-6 nugget order at letting out time.... would roll over from O'Neills and stuff my face after a skinful.... oh happy days

NumberEightyOne · 24/11/2017 11:43

A fillet o fish is the only thing I eat at McDonalds.

MegEmski · 24/11/2017 11:44

Yes my favourite!

Another ex maccies worker here. 7 years I did! So nice but I prefer them about 4 minutes old. So not brand new freshly cooked.

I also have a whole slice of cheese!

littlewoollypervert · 24/11/2017 11:51

I worked in the same McDonalds Sgtmajormummy - late 80's. Only memory from there is manning the quarter pounder grill on St Patrick's day - the only time I've never had to cook them to order as the crowd after the parade finished was unreal. Just kept stocking them up, couldn't keep pace with the orders.

FOF - food of the gods. Extra tartar sauce.

I still try and recreate them at home with a fish finger sandwich on soft fresh white bread, with a slice of plastic cheese (Easi Single type) but it's never the same. Had a duuurty one from the drive in Micky D's a few weeks ago.

Fuck now I want another. And it's nearly lunchtime. And I'm going to pass a McDonald's on my way out to pick up my Black Friday click and reserve from Argos. Can I carry a FOF and a laptop back to the office without dropping one of them?! Grin

SistersOfPercy · 24/11/2017 12:16

Love em.

My MIL gives DH local bus tickets that have Fillet o' Fish and fries for £1.99 vouchers on them.

OliviaStabler · 24/11/2017 12:29

I order from the wall tablet thing now as there is only one till at my local and it is usually swamped with people trying to order directly. Can you ask for extras when you order from the machine? Would love more tartare sauce on my fillay Grin

I worked in BK and we got one burger, fries and a drink or doughnut as a free meal (spicy bean burger for me).

How do you keep the spicy bean burger together? Mine always disintegrates Sad

rightsofwomen · 24/11/2017 12:46

Oh I love me a sneaky filet!

karmacoma1 · 24/11/2017 12:47

Oh yes. Yes, yes, yes.

Had one yesterday for my ‘cheat’ meal (straight after slimming world weigh in 😳) it was freshly cooked, and the tartar sauce was on point, I was sat there savouring it and thought, this has to be the best ‘junk’ food. Bar none.

TheVanguardSix · 24/11/2017 12:48

Ah the steamed bun! And all that tartar sauce. It's my fave! My kids wish they'd do them as Happy meals.

Bubblebubblepop · 24/11/2017 12:49

They're my favourite too

NamasteNiki · 24/11/2017 13:01

Im going to have to try one now.

How much are they?

JustMarriedAndLovingIt · 24/11/2017 13:09

Only burger I like from McDonald's

Sgtmajormummy · 24/11/2017 13:14

littlewoolly and badasscafe (good to know that place is still working) I was there part time October '86 to May '97 including most Saturdays to pay my way through TCD (hopefully not giving too much away here)!
I have great memories of escaping the rareified atmosphere of College and going clubbing with the McDonalds people on payday. Most of them were on their first jobs and enjoyed having money to spend. Amazing parties, too!

DBro was more of an O'Neill's drinker!

Sgtmajormummy · 24/11/2017 13:15

87, obviously!

NamasteNiki · 24/11/2017 13:27

Sorry about the article earlier, I hadnt realised it was a US article.

I see what you mean about the half slice of cheese. That is rubbish.
