In not wanting to be a feminist

I know I’m not alone as have had this conversation with friends but does anyone else feel PC stuff is just going too far now. The gender stuff is confusing me - I’m female always have been always will be and perfectly happy that way I don’t want to identify whatever that means with anything else and change my mind or whatever the gender fluid thing is ( that really confuses me) I’m mum to a daughter - who when younger was a pink, princess, Barbie loving frilly dress wearing child. I loved her wearing pretty dresses and wanting pretty hair. I’ve always worked in female dominated jobs - through choice no one forced me from being little I wanted to be cabin crew, my parents would have preferred me to be a solicitor, accountant or doctor like my siblings but supported my decision to go into the beauty industry because that’s what I was happy doing.
When I was younger I was whistled at in the street, had my bum pinched in nightclubs etc I wasn’t offended or outraged.

I don’t want to live in a genderless world, I don’t want my teenage daughter being in gender neutral changing rooms, I don’t even like being referred to as someone’s partner I’m quite happy being called his girlfriend.

I don’t want to offend anyone with my probably old fashioned views - I’m not even old! But I’m getting fed up of constantly hearing and reading about what I should think and believe, i mean the latest fuss about Sleeping beauty ..... what will pc brigade want to ban next?

On a trivial note, why is it that it tends to only be anti/non feminists who use "female" as a noun?

I use female, but only as woman has apparently morphed into a word that used to be 'human' Blush

HolgerDanske · 25/11/2017 15:57

We need to push back against the current penchant for misappropriating words, terms and definitions. The idea that one can self=define what a word means is incorrect, idiotic and dangerous. I saw someone seriously arguing not long ago that ‘vegan” could be interpreted to be something other than was it is, for example. No, it cannot. Neither can words like woman, sex or gender. Sex and gender are not interchangeable and should not be used as such. These things matter hugely. If only to push back against current dumbing down of everything to appeal to the lowest common denominator.

But I digress.

asmuchuseasachocolatefireguard · 25/11/2017 16:26

I don't think I'm really a feminist I don't go on marches or wear trousers and I wear make up every day and have long hair and heels and I do all the stuff in the house and don't want to be any different.

BertrandRussell · 25/11/2017 16:40

Asmuch- which of those means you're not a feminist?

asmuchuseasachocolatefireguard · 25/11/2017 16:46

Not those specifically I suppose, but I do believe that women are better to stay at home and look after the house and that men are better out earning.

I know you're going to shout at me but it is how I am in life I like to feel protected and I've no desire really to be equal to a man in any way that matters.

That isn't to excuse rape or violence in any way Smile

CherryChasingDotMuncher · 25/11/2017 16:56

I don't think I'm really a feminist I don't go on marches or wear trousers and I wear make up every day and have long hair and heels and I do all the stuff in the house and don't want to be any different

When did such an important movement become so very misunderstood that women think it's about hearing trousers? FFS. REALLY!

CherryChasingDotMuncher · 25/11/2017 16:58

Not those specifically I suppose, but I do believe that women are better to stay at home and look after the house and that men are better out earning

Why? Give a logical reason as to why this makes the slightest bit of sense

I've no desire really to be equal to a man in any way that matters

So you're happy to be paid less than a man doing the same job? Would you be happy if men controlled your reproductive rights? Would you be happy not having the vote?

CherryChasingDotMuncher · 25/11/2017 16:59

Or maybe you're happy for your husband to rape you? Without feminism he'd be allowed.

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 25/11/2017 17:03

Right now you can’t be fired for being pregnant because only women can get pregnant and do it would be sex discrimination

If men decide they are women, then all these protected states are put the window. Protection in pregnancy? Gone. Work fired you in a sex descrimination case? No comeback

That is complete nonsense and is not how maternity rights are protected.

asmuchuseasachocolatefireguard · 25/11/2017 17:04

My husband has never ever raped me don't be so horrible.

I said in my post not to excuse rape or violence in any way.

Any violence and any rape against any one else is wrong, of course it is.

I just think women are better at home Smile and since I don't work then it doesn't really matter what men get paid or women. I would of course be paid less than my husband because I have no experience of work in the last 20 years.

I have never voted. I don't see the point.

I never took the pill and my husband and I never used condoms what kids came along came along. Smile

BertrandRussell · 25/11/2017 17:06

Asmuch- do you feel feminism has benefitted you in any way?

CherryChasingDotMuncher · 25/11/2017 17:07

So, basically, you're fine, so fuck everyone else?

I don't think you deserve an opinion about feminism TBH.

CherryChasingDotMuncher · 25/11/2017 17:08

My husband has never ever raped me don't be so horrible

And if he did, he'd be arrested. You've got feminists to thank for that. But I'm guessing you don't care?

asmuchuseasachocolatefireguard · 25/11/2017 17:13

@CherryChasingDotMuncher why do I not deserve an opinion? Isn't my view as valid as anyone else's?

Since my husband has never and would not rape me that comment about him being arrested is just silly. He would not rape me, he never has and I can't imagine that he ever would.

@BertrandRussell I'm not really sure I understand what you mean, in as much as I don't really think about it.

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 25/11/2017 17:19

What Bertrand is saying is that social changes which benefit women only came about because of feminism.

You don't have to embrace these changes if you don't want to but would you wish to see a position where no women have a vote?

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 25/11/2017 17:22

Until fairly recently a husband could not legally be found guilty of rape unless the couple were "judicially separated" (ie not divorced but legally acknowledged as living separate lives)

At most marital rape could be treated as assault.

asmuchuseasachocolatefireguard · 25/11/2017 17:23

I don't understand why that is relevant to today when the suffragettes were 100 years ago. Men and women are equal under the law, and have votes so the job of feminism is just about done, as far as I can see.

If a man rapes a man or a woman then he will be sent to prison if convicted.

If a woman commits a serious act of violence on another woman or a man then she will be sent to prison if convicted.

Pumperthepumper · 25/11/2017 17:23

Asmuch this is so interesting to me, I honestly have a million questions. Your children - have you raised them to think the same way? So your daughters don’t vote or work and your sons will expect that of their wives?

HolgerDanske · 25/11/2017 17:25

Omg you have got to be kidding. If you’re serious you are seriously lacking in moral fibre, in capability for logical thought, and in empathy and understanding. People like you make me seriously despair for the state of humanity. How can you even live with yourself??

I have to conclude you’re being a GF because I simply can’t believe that anyone would willingly demonstrate their own lack of moral integrity and deficiency as a human being in the way that you just have.

If you are serious, you really need to thank your lucky stars that feminism did what it has done for you, that women pushed and fought and died for the comfortable, sheltered and protected lifestyle you glibly lead.

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 25/11/2017 17:26

If a man rapes a man or a woman then he will be sent to prison if convicted

I studied law 1977- 1981. At that time a husband could not be charged with raping his wife.

BertrandRussell · 25/11/2017 17:28

"BertrandRussell I'm not really sure I understand what you mean, in as much as I don't really think about it"

Which begs two questions. Why did you click on this thread? And how do you know you wouldn't be a feminist if you did think about it?

user1492877024 · 25/11/2017 17:31

A bit harsh don't you think? If that arrangement suits Asmuch and DH, then whats the problem?

CherryChasingDotMuncher · 25/11/2017 17:31

OK let me word this another way asmuch - I assume there's a female in your life you care about? A daughter, sister, mother? If they were paid less than a man doing the same job or raped by their husband, how would you feel?

user1492877024 · 25/11/2017 17:32

Sorry, the above was directed at HolgerDanske

asmuchuseasachocolatefireguard · 25/11/2017 17:35

@LassWiTheDelicateAir yes I remember the law changing Smile

@pumperthepumper My daughters and sons don't vote. Some aren't old enough but the ones who are don't vote (as far as I know, they may of course vote and I don't know that they do, they are adults and free to make their own choices). I expect my daughters will work until they get married and have a family.

@HolgerDanske what have I said that demonstrates a lack of moral fibre? I have plenty of empathy and understanding thank you I do lots of volunteering and contribute to society.

@BertrandRussell I'm beginning to wonder why I bothered myself Smile
