She's in her 30s, doesn't live at home. No kids. No LDs or anything like that.

Just Shock

I know several people who have similar set ups.

Well jell

ShowMePotatoSalad · 23/11/2017 16:37

Why would her not having kids be relevant? People without kids don't just sit around with nothing to do.

ShowMePotatoSalad · 23/11/2017 16:38

Btw do you feel the same about people having cleaners or is it OK so long as they've had kids?

Ttbb · 23/11/2017 16:38

I am surprised too...and envious

SpuriouserAndSpuriouser · 23/11/2017 16:40

I have a colleague who's parents live round the corner to him so he goes there most nights for dinner. I'm 50/50 slightly jealous and weirded out....

LegoLady95 · 23/11/2017 16:40

My mum does my ironing. I am 42 with 3 kids and a job. She irons for a living and is much better and faster than me. All my friends are jealous! I don't expect her to do it, but she likes to help me out (and there are no longer any pre schoolers for her to look after...).

Mrsdraper1 · 23/11/2017 16:42

Lucky cow op, wish i could con persuade my mother

Ribrabrob · 23/11/2017 16:42

The horror!!!!! Shock Hmm

As has been said above, just because they don't have kids doesn't mean they sit round doing nothing. Good for her, I say. If someone wanted to do my ironing I'd be very grateful and certainly wouldn't say no.

SlartyFarkBarstard · 23/11/2017 16:42

Nobody does my ironing. Not even me.

I wish my mum would do my washing and ironing , my husband's stepfather always did my dh sisters family washing and ironing ,never offered to do ours Hmm

Namechangetempissue · 23/11/2017 16:44

Who even irons these days? Life is far too short (probably will find out everyone does now and I'm a slovenly bitch).
I would love to get my clothes returned to me washed and folded every week. I suppose if her mum doesn't mind then why not. My mum would tell me to get stuffed Grin

What Slarty said

Copperspot · 23/11/2017 16:47

Meh....

Im in my 40s single with no kids. My mum does my ironing sometimes. She does my cleaning sometimes. She has a key for my flat and if she knows i’m working loads of overtime she’ll pop round and do an hour.

It works both ways though. When she was ill i went round and did her cleaning / laundry / walked the dog.
We are family, why wouldn’t we help each other?

I went round for tea last week too..... doesn’t mean i’m a child.

Copperspot · 23/11/2017 16:47

Oops i’m in my 30s! Just aged myself 10 years! Fat fingers Grin

zeezeek · 23/11/2017 16:48

My step son is currently doing all of ours - mine, husbands, kids. He’s living with us whilst Uni here for a year.
Can’t work out if I’m unreasonable because I’m a stepmother —and therefore always unreasonable whatever—, or reasonable because I’ve got kids....

Anatidae · 23/11/2017 16:48

The only time my iron gets used is when I’m sewing... :)

I know someone who does her kids ironing. She’s in her late sixties, has a chronic illness, and is put upon by everyone in the family. She does tons of free childcare, her adult children’s laundry and ironing, she cares for her husband’s elderly mother.
None of them treat her with respect or seem to be thankful for the help. They are all bone idle.

When lovely auntie visits our place she gets told to sit the hell down and provided with tea and cake

I guess you don’t know the dynamic -maybe the Mum offered, maybe she insisted. Maybe daughter is a lazy fucker.

Or maybe it’s yet another woman shouldering far, far too much of the shitwork burden and feeling she has to.

dantdmistedious · 23/11/2017 16:58

My mil does all our bedding and towels. Used to drive me up the wall by meh she enjoys it, I hate it. Crack on.

ShowMePotatoSalad · 23/11/2017 16:58

zeezeek

If you'd asked your own grown kids to do it, you'd be a legend of our lifetimes

Asking your grown stepkid to do it, however: MONSTER!!!!

glitterlips1 · 23/11/2017 17:00

Lucky!!!

Ecclesiastes · 23/11/2017 17:00

My mum does my ironing from time to time.

She likes an excuse to come to my house when I'm at work for some peace and quiet away from my dad, lol.

LondonGirl83 · 23/11/2017 17:01

That's nice.

Frederickvonhefferneffer · 23/11/2017 17:03

I’m very jealous. Laundry is my unrelenting nemesis

zeezeek · 23/11/2017 17:04

Lol my eldest is 11 and has hit the teenage years so far too stressful for her of course!

JimLahey · 23/11/2017 17:06

My stepdad's mum cries if he does it himself. She loves doing it!
