Skip to 33. The calendar that her own company makes she says it's all down to boots and they choose the £50 price. She's been doing products for years and has full ownership of her company. She's not new or anything to releasing products

It's been on sale for two months and it's her name on it and was apparently only sad in the last few days when the backlash started.

Her body language is all off, avoiding eye contact and looking around. She says shes not in it for the money but has a long history of releasing cheap stuff for high prices.

In fact, really interesting posts throughout.

Yeah, I don't think she's business savvy.

But her property developer Daddy behind her - or "talent producer" as he now calls himself - definitely is.

SilverSpot · 15/11/2017 12:55

Zoella got OLD! She is 27. WTF are 'tweens' still watching the has-been for?

Honeydragon · 15/11/2017 12:56

It’s a highly protected brand. I assume Boots paid a hefty license fee for the brand. Then each piece of tat will need to be endorsed in concept by the brand, more people time and money. At that point they’ve got to source each item as cheap as possible then send it all to be produced. It’s a project with a greedy corporation wanting a large fee for their name behind it and a lot of middle companies involved.

In short they are going for their usually mark up on products like this; but I imagine this cost a fair whack to produce so the contents suffered.

Happyemoji · 15/11/2017 12:57

I wouldn't buy it and Boots are still selling it for £50. I like the look of the Laura Ashley advent calendar I might treat myself this year.

sweetbitter · 15/11/2017 13:01

Also, obviously she'll have been told what to say in that video non-apology by her management. Who are never going to advise her to do less merchandise or lower prices as that's how they're all making a buck from her...

Really she should just go back to doing pure YouTube for a while and stop flogging stuff, but she's unlikely to realise that herself when that would be her management etcs worst fear so they'll advise anything except that. And she's most probably too greedy now re the money too to seriously consider it.

Honeydragon · 15/11/2017 13:05

I looked on her blog and given it’s aimed at tweens why is she endorsing a £5 vest from BooHoo and an £1800 handbag to go with it?

Redpony1 · 15/11/2017 13:08

I wouldn't buy it and Boots are still selling it for £50

From Thursday 16th November, Boot's are slashing the price 50% to £25.00

I wouldn't be surprised if this was a marketing ploy..... £25 now seems a 'good deal' to her fans and they may well sell more! Plus, it's got it in the news and people are talking about her...

Smoliver · 15/11/2017 13:08

Just going to leave this review of the calendar here. It's brutally honest/absolutely hilarious.

Maudlinmaud · 15/11/2017 13:13

I'd have more respect for her if she diversified her brand and aimed it at young people around her own age who have grown up with her. Maybe she has already tried that given that she has branched into room sprays and scented candles. But it's all such a miss match, can't see young happening 20 somethings being impressed with a gingerbread cookie cutter, but my 8 year old certainly would be.

OracleofDelphi · 15/11/2017 13:21

God what a load of old drivel... she is being so disingenious with this. Of course retailers set prices, but she must understand that if she told them she wanted it full of diamond encrusted tat that it would cost more than it is was full of air! Any decent brand looks at who their target demographic is and then pitches a price for that. Its just greedy andshe knows it so is blame shifting.

Either she knew the price would be at the higher end and didnt care until the backlash or she is so naive she will put her name to anything without understnading that her name on it is an endorsement and so any backlash will be directed to her, not the retailer.....

PoppyPopcorn · 15/11/2017 13:24

I also imagine that there is a high possibility that the conversation went something like this:

Boots: Zoella, we're thinking about launching a range of products using your name.

Zoella: Amazing! Fabulous, I'm so, like honoured!

Boots: So this is called a licensing arrangement, basically you sell us the rights to use your name and relinquish control over the product, manufacture and price. We'll get some snaps or video of you picking products for PR and social media though.

Zoella: Ker-ching! Totes amazeballs. £100k in the bank.

tigggga · 15/11/2017 13:24

“I was 100% involved in all of it. Been slaving for a year, put the wicks in the candles myself, blistered hands from sewing the pom-poms... but I had no idea how much those horrible Boots people were selling it for! I’ve been taken advantage of and I’m sooo sad” give us a break Zoella.

AfterSchoolWorry · 15/11/2017 13:26

After this her 'career' will be as dead as Kevin Spaceys hopefully.

whiskyowl · 15/11/2017 13:28

"I'd have more respect for her if she diversified her brand and aimed it at young people around her own age who have grown up with her"

I suspect she may make that leap with a baby range when the time comes.

ShatnersWig · 15/11/2017 13:38

Who is she?

Thanks for the link Smoliver what an absolute pile of poo.

I hope nobody on here has forked out for some poor expectant child.

Vitalogy · 15/11/2017 13:50
  1. I don't know who Zoella is
  2. From the clip it doesn't look like she's lying
  3. I agree the calendar is a complete rip off, only 12 doors Confused
  4. Bottom line is, whoever is handing over the money is facilitating this company, the power is in YOUR hands to stop it.
  5. I wanted Mr Frosty for Christmas but because it was shite my mum and dad didn't buy it.
  6. The review clip was funny.
  7. Why are kids opening these calendars before December.
Confuzzlediddled · 15/11/2017 13:50

I got this calendar for my daughter 1/10th of the price of the Zoella one and it even has 24 doors to open Grin

To think zoella is lying
Friolero · 15/11/2017 13:52

I’m amazed people watch this self obsessed nonsense.
Also how is it an advent calendar if it only has 12 doors?

QuiteUnfitBit · 15/11/2017 13:58

It's to celebrate the 12 days of Xmas, so it's suitable to be given as an Xmas present. Grin
