To think this restaurant is slightly out of order?

Afternoon all.

Each week I eat the same meal at the same restaurant, same time, same day (same table if the winds blowing in the right direction Wink). This has been a routine for just over a year Smile. I've become friendly with the staff - first name terms with a couple of the regulars.

Each week I leave one element of the meal. The last 3 ish times that I've visited I've been served this meal without this element. Hmm.

No one has ever mentioned it to me, or offered a reduction in cost or a replacement item.

AIBU to think that it isn't the restaurant's place to make this decision on my behalf?

YABVU having beans with eggs 🤢Grim 🙂

ChaosTrulyReigns · 13/11/2017 15:09

Chocolate, I'm kinda not sure why I've sat through it 3 times to be fair. I guess Im conflicted, I can see the logic behind only giving me one slice- I hate food waste too - but I've got a slight pout when I see fewer (less?Confused) been that I'm paying my hard earned sterling for.

Life is hard sometimes. Too much thinking required.

OstWank, he's already having the large full English with a few tweaks Grin so has refused the extra toast despite me offering it.

"less toast is great thanks, but please do stop skanking me on the beanz"

but naicely n'all.

gabsdot · 13/11/2017 15:13

Are you Sheldon Cooper?

BarbaraofSevillle · 13/11/2017 15:15

You could, of course, just eat the toast and either count it as another HEB, syn it, or write it off as a little cheat.

A single extra slice of toast a week will effect your weight loss by an immeasurably small amount (maybe an extra pound every 6 months or something).

ChaosTrulyReigns · 13/11/2017 15:16

Lulz at BeckyBunch!

Skanky is underused.

Mebbe not on a Naice Garden Cafe not restaurant Grin

Babs, I syn it at 6 syns.

Need to save my HEB for my late night teeny weeny treat of Hifi Lights 😩🙄

I’d just put on my best smile and place the order and then add at the end “ooo, thank you for noticing that I don’t tend to eat both slices of toast, but Can I still have lots of beans please. Mmm beans!”

Do it politely, but just tell em.

Or even “Can I please have the full allocation of beans, even though I only eat one slice of bread”

BarbaraofSevillle · 13/11/2017 15:20

You could ask them to swap the rogue extra slice of toast for tomatoes or mushrooms as you aren't currently fulfilling the 'a third of your plate must be speed foods' rule anyway.

outedmyselfagain · 13/11/2017 15:21

Or, “my silly diet won’t allow me to eat more than one slice of the toast, but I’m allowed lots of beans so can I please have lots of beans”. Once they know why you might even get two and a bit ladles.

As an aside, are poached eggs on the menu? Just wondering if the more inexperienced kitchen staff just don’t have the faith to do them without half a bottle of vinegar.

Montythespookymouse · 13/11/2017 15:24

I actually think they are being a bit cheeky tbh.
They've noticed you are leaving a slice of toast. I too hate food waste but you have paid for it and it's yours to leave. They shouldn't just be taking it and not even asking you if they serve other customers the old allocation still.

A good cafe would say to a regular 'We have noticed you leave a slice of toast every week do you want us to leave it off and we will just on a few extra beans on instead or charge you £6 instead of £6.20 or whatever.

OlennasWimple · 13/11/2017 15:29

I just had to have beans on toast for my lunch as a result of this thread (two pieces of toast and full complement of beans!)

ChaosTrulyReigns · 13/11/2017 15:36

Outed, my silly diet does allow me to have 2 slices of bread, I just choose not to. It's working fine for me, .

ChaosTrulyReigns · 13/11/2017 15:37

Babs, I'm pretty vigorous about the 1/3 speed rule, I have an apple before I go in, and I'm so full and satisfied Wink, I only need one slice of bread! Grin

Monty, you last paragraph sums up exactly how it should be.

Utopia. Sigh. Smile

I don't get it.

Why can't grown adults have a grown up conversation?

How it is so hard to say (to these people that you know, apparently) - "hey, i really appreciate you noticing that i never eat the second slice of toast, but I miss all the beans! "

So many threads on here are literally adults who will not speak to another adult about whatever their little issue is.

It's embarrassing to read!

AngelaTwerkel · 13/11/2017 15:42

This is all very British - too polite to say what you want and getting annoyed when someone isn't a mind reader (even though they've actually tried to read your mind here!).

Just say what you want. They will be absolutely OK with it, you're not asking for anything outlandish, just beans!

IfYouGoDownToTHeWoodsToday · 13/11/2017 15:43

I hate beans and reading this thread is making me quite nauseous.

BEANS, BEANS, and more BEANS. Sad

I do love toast though!

glitterbiscuits · 13/11/2017 15:57

It reminds me of Jack Nicholson in As Good As It Gets.
Same meal, same place etc

outedmyselfagain · 13/11/2017 15:59

I meant blame the diet.

I did SW many moons ago (this 1/3 speed food thing confuses me - I understand green and red).

Blame the diet to get the bits of what you’ve paid for that you want.

I don’t think you need a reimbursement for one fewer slice of bread, but if them rationing your bread means they’ve rationed your beans and you don’t like it - say something!!

SilverSpot · 13/11/2017 16:02

Everything @senzaparole03 says. Stop being a baby and use your words.

JustMarriedAndLovingIt · 13/11/2017 16:05

I'm really confused plus couldn't afford to go to a café that charged that! Morrison's big breakfast all the way please, only about £4.50 x

PiffleandWiffle · 13/11/2017 16:09

Eat the second slice of toast & walk home slightly faster than normal....

fpurplea · 13/11/2017 16:22

First name terms and can't have a completely normal conversation about what you want? Hell, it's not even like you'd have to have it every time if they already know you well enough to leave the toast you don't eat off. There is no stiffing here, just have the bloody conversation FGS.
