To think this restaurant is slightly out of order?

Afternoon all.

Each week I eat the same meal at the same restaurant, same time, same day (same table if the winds blowing in the right direction Wink). This has been a routine for just over a year Smile. I've become friendly with the staff - first name terms with a couple of the regulars.

Each week I leave one element of the meal. The last 3 ish times that I've visited I've been served this meal without this element. Hmm.

No one has ever mentioned it to me, or offered a reduction in cost or a replacement item.

AIBU to think that it isn't the restaurant's place to make this decision on my behalf?

Giving you a meal without the item you always leave - good.

Not asking you before doing it - not good (today might be the one time you want it)

Reducing another item as a consequence - very bad, and grounds for complaint

Pickleypickles · 13/11/2017 13:24

Im super fussy and id love it if someone noticed the bits i didnt like and left them off so they didnt get near other stuff!
I think you are over reacting and they were trying to be nice.
I dont see why if you were happy to pay for it and not eat it why you now feel hard done by? They have jist cut out the middle man.

RB68 · 13/11/2017 13:25

Just ask for the full portion of beans. Say not bothered about second toast but can you have the full portion of beans pls as you have paid for it

Council · 13/11/2017 13:25

£5.90 for beans on toast with poached eggs?! Shock And you keep going back even though you don't enjoy it because of the vinegar?

blueskyinmarch · 13/11/2017 13:25

That's one expensive beans on toast with egg. Go somewhere cheaper?

They’re taking half your beans away! That is not ok! I don’t know how you phrase that though.. ‘please could I have my beans back..’

You could say ‘I’ve noticed you’re only giving me half the beans on toast now, please could I have them all?’ And they will say ‘but you always leave a slice of toast’ and you will say ‘yes but I eat all the beans!’
Hopefully they’ll then give you the right number of beans at least..

Easier than saying ‘can I have extra beans’ which sounds like you’re asking for more rather than they’re giving less!!

But god yes don’t start on the vinegar point..

PinkHeart5914 · 13/11/2017 13:29

Do people really pay £4.10 for beans on toast or £5.90 for beans on toast with eggs?

I like to think I am not tight and I enjoy a good meal out but no way would I pay that for beans on toast!

kootoo123 · 13/11/2017 13:31

Presumably you know this item would be on the plate for weeks and that you dont like it. So why haven't you spoken up it is pretty wasteful of you.

Sentimentallentil · 13/11/2017 13:35

It’s NOT rude to order what you want in a cafe.
I run a business and I’d much rather someone have a faffy order than went away and moaned about it.
Of course there are rude and entitled people but that’s a seperate issue to just asking nicely what you want, surely as they remember your order you’d only have to do it the once.

PowerOfAttorneyQuestions · 13/11/2017 13:36

Try something new next time! Grin

Sentimentallentil · 13/11/2017 13:38

This is how to make that order

‘Can I have the beans on toast but is it possible to swap one if the slices of toast for extra beans please? Thanks. Two poached eggs and a coffee with skimmed milk. Thanks very much’

less than a minute to say.

Sandsunsea · 13/11/2017 13:39

Change your order. Ask for poached eggs on toast with a side of beans.

becotide · 13/11/2017 13:39

It's the tomato, isn't it? YABU

Sentimentallentil · 13/11/2017 13:39

Or poached egg and beans with a slice of toast on the side

onalongsabbatical · 13/11/2017 13:50

Beans on toast at a restaurant?
Don't you mean cafe?
Grin

HouseholdWords · 13/11/2017 13:51

YABU. You really want a reduction on the price of a £6 meal because you have 1 slice of toast, not 2?

I've heard it all now.

And if you're slimming, you should be cutting out the baked beans rather than a slice of wholemeal bread, I'd have thought. Aren't baked beans high in calories? and the shop-bought processed ones have a lot of sugar in the sauce.

PuppyMonkey · 13/11/2017 13:53

Beans on toast with poached egg? Madness. Shock

You need beans on toast with cheese sprinkled on top, it's the only way.

ChaosTrulyReigns · 13/11/2017 13:54

HouseholdWords you misunderstood me, I think.

I don't want a reduction, just would like the second piece of toast so as to get the full portion of beans.

ChaosTrulyReigns · 13/11/2017 13:55

Cheese is my nemesis, Puppy. 😩

I've had to go Cold Turkey on cheese.

Ceto · 13/11/2017 13:56

Tell you what, why not just make this for yourself at home. All the beans you want, no vinegar, and it'll save you at least £4.50 a week. Then use the saved money to give yourself a big treat.

Coloursthatweremyjoy · 13/11/2017 13:57

I would not eat at any cafe that thought vinegar was necessary to poach an egg...how old are these eggs? Shudder.

OlennasWimple · 13/11/2017 13:57

Why don't you try ordering a portion of beans with two eggs and one round of toast?

IhaveapenIhavepineapple · 13/11/2017 13:58

*£4.10 for the standard meal plus £1.80 for the two extra eggs.

Oof*

You really missed a trick there, could have written oeuf.

PuppyMonkey · 13/11/2017 13:58

I think you're just going to have to say "can I have the two pieces of toast this week" and then you can stash the uneaten piece of toast in your bag to dispose of at a convenient opportunity after you leave.

Or, alternatively, as you are quite good friends with the people at this establishment now - TELL THEM.
