To think this restaurant is slightly out of order?

Afternoon all.

Each week I eat the same meal at the same restaurant, same time, same day (same table if the winds blowing in the right direction Wink). This has been a routine for just over a year Smile. I've become friendly with the staff - first name terms with a couple of the regulars.

Each week I leave one element of the meal. The last 3 ish times that I've visited I've been served this meal without this element. Hmm.

No one has ever mentioned it to me, or offered a reduction in cost or a replacement item.

AIBU to think that it isn't the restaurant's place to make this decision on my behalf?

I'm pretty I haven't said anywhere that I'm too babyish to have a conversation about it.

I'll certainly mention it next time I go in, and add to the convolutedness of the order! Grin

My AIBU was "are they slightly out of order for doing it in the first place" and obviously you all all in complete agreement with me so I'm sitting here like the cat that got the not slimming world sanctioned cream.

Not really relevant to anything but can I just add....
Vinegar is added to the water to help the eggs coagulate so it does serve a purpose. Stops the eggs breaking up as they cook. Tis the acid in it. You could use lemon juice but that would probably taste weirder.

Well, I know what I’m having for tea tonight.

Look on it that they are helping you reach your goal faster by giving you fewer beans (if you turn out to be one of the few who actually manages to lose weight long term).

Hazelatte26 · 13/11/2017 16:38

It's a nice gesture.

Rather that then the food go to waste surely?

Footle · 13/11/2017 16:42

Why does a single shot cappuccino cost the same as a double?

ChaosTrulyReigns · 13/11/2017 16:46

Cheers shark! I knew about the acid tip, but I swear they don't add even a tespoon of water to dilute the vinegar sometimes! I think they must have many chefs (cheves?) and and the inconsistency is a bit boggling - do I mention the vinegar or hope this week for a chef who doesn't use it? As I said it's a bit if a conversation anyway without bringing that issue to the table!

Saw nigella using a tea strainer to strain ofc the watery albumen to there day. Top tip there folks. I didn't rush out and buy a tea strainer, oh no Grin

MrsFezz, yeah I should embrace the fewer beans debacle! Think of my inches. Grin

Fricken hope I keep it off 😩

Footless, it shouldn't, should it? Confused

I’m staggered by your reasoning. Why haven’t you asked them? In the last year.

QuietNinjaTardis · 13/11/2017 16:53

I worked in a cafe when I was younger and a customer once complained that they got 3 eggs instead of 2 with their toast.

CountessofGrantham · 13/11/2017 16:55

‘Toast with double beans and two poached eggs please.’

Job done!

ChaosTrulyReigns · 13/11/2017 16:55

Ob, it's only happened thrice.

I would be pleased they were recognizing me as a regular AND not wasting food. “I paid for it, I want to see it thrown away!” is an odd stance.

robinR · 13/11/2017 16:59

I think you really have to tread carefully here.

A group of members at my SW group used to go to the naice garden centre cafe for brunch after class.

The cafe did eggs on toast or a jacket potato with beans. Several of the group used to ask fairly regularly for the beans, but on toast instead of on a JP.

After a few visits the manager came out and said that this was way too much fuckery aboutery and banned them from ordering beans on toast. A row ensued and the group of ladies (all over 60) were banned for life from the garden centre.

Do you want to take that risk? Think on.

Cocolepew · 13/11/2017 16:59

Chaos!! You're back!
Of course YANBU Grin

SchadenfreudePersonified · 13/11/2017 17:17

I already feel my order is complex

Order is no longer complex if they know it by heart and have started making adjustments. I think you are entitled to the full complement of beans, but unless you tell them. they won't know.

I agree with a previous poster that adding poached eggs to beans is yuk! (But I don't like beans)

SchadenfreudePersonified · 13/11/2017 17:21

Bloody hell!

That's a bit extreme isn't it? If they'd asked for quail's eggs in aspic on toast or something I could understand it, but it's only effing beans! You heat them up and you sling 'em into a slice of toast, or bung 'em into a tattie.

Where's the fuckery-aboutery in that?

I would have gone to the Daily Mail papers.

Nanny0gg · 13/11/2017 17:26

Should I ask McDonald's for a reduction as I don't have the mustard or gerkin? That's loads over the years!

itusedtobeverydifferent · 13/11/2017 17:28

It’s a lovely thing, they are familiar with your routine and are showing this by catering to our requirements.

YABU for ordering this meal countless times and continuing to let them cook, then waste the item you dislike.

Montythespookymouse · 13/11/2017 17:31

Nanny0gg but presumably you ask McDonald's not to give it to you. They haven't just decided that because you left it not to give it to you anymore Wink

diddl · 13/11/2017 17:33

So are the beans on the toast?

If so & the eggs are lightly poached, does the yolk just ooze onto the plate?

BulletFox · 13/11/2017 17:33

I occasionally go out for breakfast and as it's 'set' tell them exactly what I'll eat and what I won't.

E.g. one sausage, not two, one hash brown etc. I just say it would be complete wastage if my appetite is low.

They're absolutely fine with it.

Can't you just talk to them?

RavenLG · 13/11/2017 17:41

I'll certainly mention it next time I go in, and add to the convolutedness of the order!

FFS, you're ordering beans on toast and a couple of poached eggs not reciting the rosary!

If you're on first name terms with them, and they know to leave one slice of toast off your order, then surely at this point you don't even need to tell them what you want? Or just do what most adults do and order something different off the menu instead of the same boring slop every week say can I have a few extra beans please, since I'm down a round of toast.

ChaosTrulyReigns · 13/11/2017 17:43

Raven there's a pretty specific reason why I gave the same thing each week. For sure I sit there and lust over the Has Browns on dad's plate, but nope, there not fir me at the mo.
