To think this restaurant is slightly out of order?

Afternoon all.

Each week I eat the same meal at the same restaurant, same time, same day (same table if the winds blowing in the right direction Wink). This has been a routine for just over a year Smile. I've become friendly with the staff - first name terms with a couple of the regulars.

Each week I leave one element of the meal. The last 3 ish times that I've visited I've been served this meal without this element. Hmm.

No one has ever mentioned it to me, or offered a reduction in cost or a replacement item.

AIBU to think that it isn't the restaurant's place to make this decision on my behalf?

Pineapple, now I'm kicking myself! Grin

Chaos the solution to this is to go somewhere else for a bit.

And YABU for wanting food to be deliberately wasted just because you can’t bring yourself to ask for more beans.

Ontheboardwalk · 13/11/2017 14:03

No im sorry PuppyMonkey you are incorrect.

It's toast, cheese then beans so the cheese melts properly

OlennasWimple · 13/11/2017 14:14

Ontheboardwalk - no, it's toast, cheese, beans then more cheese Grin

givemushypeasachance · 13/11/2017 14:19

Just communicate with the people you are paying an extortionate amount to cook a very basic meal!

"Hi, beans on toast please. I'm watching my carbs so could I just have the one slice of toast."

peachgreen · 13/11/2017 14:26

YABVU to post about this when it's so far away from dinnertime - I'm now totally craving beans and eggs on toast!

PuppyMonkey · 13/11/2017 14:28

Oh no, cheese on top of beans only - it melts in quite the most delicious way then.

Am going to have to have this for me tea now, you boggers.

PricillaQueenOfTheDesert · 13/11/2017 14:29

Check the menu. Does it say beans on two slices of toast? If it does, point it out to them. “Can I have mine with two slices of toast please”
It’s not hard! Expecting a reduction in price for one less slice of bread is pretty pathetic.

hotbutteredcrumpetsandtea · 13/11/2017 14:33

A lot of people complaining how expensive the food is. Seemed extremely cheap to me.

BarbaraofSevillle · 13/11/2017 14:36

It's not cheap for beans on toast though. Plenty of places do a full cooked breakfast for that sort of money and it's an extremely basic meal to cook. It's not like you're paying for skill or complicated preparation.

ChaosTrulyReigns · 13/11/2017 14:38

Really really not expecting a reduction.

But only being served half the standard menu meal without consultation is surely a tad duff?

OP posts:
RebeccaBunch · 13/11/2017 14:41

come on it's not really a restaurant is it? Its a cafe. Grin

it's chaos, utter chaos.

have you ever thought of just ordering two eggs with a side of beans?

Or next time, say hold the toast, I'll have a few more beans instead please!

BarbaraofSevillle · 13/11/2017 14:42

You are correct that they should give you the full serving of beans though, even if you only get one slice of toast.

Maybe they are concerned about the beans and egg yolk mingling. A lot of people think that is Very Wrong Indeed.

ChaosTrulyReigns · 13/11/2017 14:44

Apologies yes. It's a cafe! I'm sure I saw a branded sign mentioning 'Our Restaurant' but I've just checked on their website and it is actually branded as a cafe.

It's in a Naice Garden Centre, though explains the price.

hotbutteredcrumpetsandtea · 13/11/2017 14:46

Here's a startling notion: you could just say "I'd like the full amount of toast whether I eat it or not, thank you" politely? Job done, problem over.

givemushypeasachance · 13/11/2017 14:47

Nearly £6 for two slices of toast, a portion of beans and two eggs is pricey in my book. Unless it's fancy sourdough toast, homemade beans and eggs from particularly pampered chickens.

As an example comparison, at Morrisons it's £1 for two slices of buttered toast, and in the add your own items DIY option it's 70p per item including Heinz beans and poached eggs. So even if you wanted two "portions" of beans along with two poached eggs to get full bean coverage, that's max £3.80.

givemushypeasachance · 13/11/2017 14:49

Then again it's £4.70 for the big breakfast and I'd well be picking that instead...

RebeccaBunch · 13/11/2017 14:50

please don't insist on having the toast you aren't going to eat - don't participate in willful food waste!

UK's food waste stats are too shameful www.lovefoodhatewaste.com/it-all-adds-up/

Ontheboardwalk · 13/11/2017 14:59

Ok OlennasWimple I think you win the debate.

And yes I'll be trying it out for my tea tonight as well PuppyMonkey

Choas you should have it for tea as well and stop paying silly prices for it in the cafe!!

Sweetpea55 · 13/11/2017 15:01

Its a bit like personal service..They know how you like and so serve it that way,

StripySocksAndDocs · 13/11/2017 15:03

I'd have to run screaming from a place that uses vinegar to poach eggs. If they can't manage to poach an egg I would fear their ability to cook. The treachery!!!

BaronessBomburst · 13/11/2017 15:04

Are you saying that you get one ladle of beans per slice, and now that they're only giving you one slice of toast, you're only getting one ladle of beans instead of the two you used to get?

Givemeallthechocolate · 13/11/2017 15:05

What is wrong with you all?? I'm sorry, but I'm ever so shocked that everyone's saying ask for the toast! If you don't want it, just order what you want- the extra beans,
"I'm ever so sorry, I'd like to change my usual order, you see I usually have two slices of toast so I can get extra beans, but I don't eat the second slice as I'm on SW. So I would like to order, one slice of dry toast, two portions of beans, and two poached eggs.
just order exactly what it is you want, no idea why you've sat through a meal that isn't exactly as you wanted 3 times.

I'm sorry, I have to have my food exactly as i like it. One of my oddities.

OstentatiousWanking · 13/11/2017 15:05

Can your Dad eat the slice of toast you don't want?

ChaosTrulyReigns · 13/11/2017 15:06

Baroness, that's exactly it.
