To think this restaurant is slightly out of order?

Afternoon all.

Each week I eat the same meal at the same restaurant, same time, same day (same table if the winds blowing in the right direction Wink). This has been a routine for just over a year Smile. I've become friendly with the staff - first name terms with a couple of the regulars.

Each week I leave one element of the meal. The last 3 ish times that I've visited I've been served this meal without this element. Hmm.

No one has ever mentioned it to me, or offered a reduction in cost or a replacement item.

AIBU to think that it isn't the restaurant's place to make this decision on my behalf?

Chaos, you need to channel Smithy off of Gavin and Stacey next time you go in. 'Plate up the beans on the toasts, with the eggs and then JUST BEFORE YOU COME OUT, take off one of the toasts but leave ALL THE BEANS, OK?' .

Also, we would like photos, please, on your next visit. Thank you.

You’ve spent over £300 in a year on beans, eggs and toast, some of which you don’t even eat?

Maybe you should ask for what you want on the plate, like 'I don't want an extra slice of toast, but may I have the beans please anyway' or 'two portions of beans' to make it clear?

Slarti · 14/11/2017 18:10

the missing element

Is this an Agatha Christie novel? Why do MNers have to try so hard to be mysterious?

BarbaraofSevillle · 14/11/2017 18:11

I'm not normally one to say this, because I am generally quite careful about eating out and it needs to be worth it, the food usually needs to be something I find time consuming or fiddly to cook, or needs a lot of ingredients, so wouldn't have beans, toast, eggs, because it's cheap and low effort and it's what you have at home when you can't be arsed chopping vegetables or waiting for anything time consuming, but I can see where the OP is coming from in this instance. It's only £6, it's not like its a 'proper' restaurant meal thats £20/30.

She is spending quality time with her DF, and trying to stick to her diet, and presumably eating something she enjoys, so in this case, I can see how it is worth £6. OP, you could just have the beans and eggs one week and have beans, 2 slices of toast (which you eat both of) and eggs the other, and it will all average out over time and it will keep the cafe on their toes Grin.

chipscheeseandcurrysauce · 14/11/2017 18:16

You can get a tin of beans, a loaf and a carton of eggs for under £2.

pollymere · 14/11/2017 18:17

If your beans on toast is usually two pieces with beans on top, then I agree, you are being charged for what is essentially half. A kids portion is often half so see how much they charge for that and put your point across.

Judecarr123 · 14/11/2017 18:18

nanny charge?! quaff quaff lol

Judecarr123 · 14/11/2017 18:19

I hate beans so when ordering breakfast I ask for beans to be replaced with tomatos or mushrooms sometimes a tattie scone depends on my mood. No extra cost 😊

CurlyPJ · 14/11/2017 19:19

Batsh1t never, ever go to the Grindleford cafe.....they would murder you!

Batsh1tcrazy · 14/11/2017 19:57

For not liking beans? 😂 I actually hate the little balls of farts 😂

Springprim · 14/11/2017 20:00

How funny! I wonder why you still go there if it's a problem? Just tell them what you want.

So you pay for a full portion but they are only giving you 50% of the food? Utter Cheeky Fuckery!
Why are so many pp saying "ask for the extra beans"? They aren't extra, they're what you have paid for!
Just say to them "Hi Joan, my usual please, double beans but on 1 toast"

SchadenfreudePersonified · 14/11/2017 21:23

Baked beans are the food of the devil

HelpTheTigers · 14/11/2017 21:29

gateto, don’t you get the concept of going out for an affordable meal as a way of enjoying the time you spend with someone?
