NHS handout for 'young trans people in the UK'

www.mermaidsuk.org.uk/assets/media/17-15-02-A-Guide-For-Young-People.pdf

'Surgical Options'

"Hysterectomy
This surgery involves the removal of the interior female sexual organs. This prevents the risk of cancer and forever prevents periods or risk of pregnancy"

Sounds awesome doesn't it!

Here's the NHS advice on taking drugs

"Hormone Blockers
If blockers (or anti-androgens) are taken when younger, the effects from puberty are likely not to occur and a more passable body is likely to result."

Yes, that's right kids you can just skip puberty, and be Peter Pan. It's a brave new world where you are stuck with a micropenis for the rest of your life.

And what if your stupid parents don't agree?

"If you are under 16 a lot will depend on gaining the full support from your parents. In other countries hormone blockers can be given to younger transsexual people which will prevent the onset of unwanted secondary sex characteristics. This may mean that you look further than the UK for medical intervention. It would be undesirable to buy hormones over the internet without fully knowing what you are buying."

That's right kids! You can suppress those pesky unwanted secondary sex characteristics' by buying hormones on teh internetz. Yay NHS! Yay Aneurin Bevan!

And boys, thinking of becoming girls, it's NOTHING to worry about, you can chop off your balls and turn your dick inside out, it's perfectly normal! It will even improve your health, everything is awesome!

""Orchidectomy is the removal of the testes. This operation means that testosterone will no longer be naturally produced in the body and therefore you can do without your testosterone blocker. In general, the lower the dose of any drug the lower the health risks you will have. "

"Technology for SRS is quite advanced and with good surgery even gynaecologists are said to find it hard to distinguish a constructed vagina from a natal one. "

A constructed vagina huh? You mean like a sex toy? www.lovehoney.co.uk/sex-toys/male-sex-toys/pocket-vaginas/ I hear they are pretty realistic too.

This is NHS advice, albeit I don't think any doctor actually reviews this stuff before they print it, there seems to be an attitude that it would be transphobic to have any of this written by mainstream medics, so let's just let a self-selecting group of people with loud voices do it. (Like the group Mermaids, who are recommended in the handout, and who basically consist of one woman who took her son to Thailand at 16 to have 'bottom surgery'.)

And don't think all these pamphlets and websites telling you that hysterectomy and puberty blocking are awesome have no effect on kids. Nope, there is a MASSIVE increase in kids identifying as trans.

Here's an article today from St Albans www.hertsad.co.uk/news/increase-in-trans-support-is-offered-as-child-gender-fluidity-rises-in-st-albans-district-1-5264057

Lots and lots of girls deciding they are boys because "He wouldn’t wear knickers and refused to play with girls’ toys" and the NHS happily supporting that. (That biologically female child is seven-years-old, and per the NHS handout above you will get GREAT results, by taking puberty blockers follow by testosterone, which "offers very effective masculinisation for FTMs". Apparently said child is "adamant he will grow up and get married and be the husband and daddy and he will have a wife". )

There is obviously no meaningful consent possible by pre-pubescent child to puberty blocking, because they have no real conception of what puberty hormones would do to their body AND brain. But apparently there is no concern whatsoever about this, because EVERYTHING IS AWESOME when you're trans. So much better than being a boring old 'cis' female with periods and cancer and pregnancy and all those silly 'ciswoman' problems.

Perhaps because the most influential LGB pressure group, Stonewall, has dumped them.

Compounding it by being in favour of an ideology that undermines them.

The self interest of the people running Stonewall knows no bounds.

OlennasWimple · 11/11/2017 17:24

That article is really good. Lots of interesting stuff in there.

Like two transmen, who transitioned at the same time and are in a relationship together: they are clearly lesbians, right? Butch lesbians. Why are they so afraid of being butch lesbians? In 2017, why is that so terrible? (And haven't Stonewall failed, if this is the case?)

“I’ll adopt,” he says cheerfully

He has no fucking idea what it means to adopt. It's such a glib, throw away line, and I bet no-one in RL is pulling him up on it

OlennasWimple · 11/11/2017 17:26

Datun - I'll help your commune for burgeoning lesbians who just need some women around them to tell them it'll be OK (even though I'm not gay either). Can we also run an underground women only movement, where women doctors treat patients who only want to be seen by a woman without any chest feeding nonsense?

Datun · 11/11/2017 17:44

OlennasWimple

You’re on.

I was first in favour of Shady Pines, the retirement home for (gender critical) gentle folk, that my offspring are fond of registering me with every other week.

Turns out half of mumsnet want to come.

We intend have poker nights, an illegal still, and scrabble, for those inclined.

I can easily switch that to a commune for unsupported butch lesbians.

Cards, booze, cackling and support.

Sounds fantastic.

Datun · 11/11/2017 17:45

And the only chest in sight will be full of Jack Daniels.

OlennasWimple · 11/11/2017 19:47

Yes, we need Shady Pines junior camp too Wink

NettleTea · 12/11/2017 13:31

I have the still already. Can I come

Datun · 12/11/2017 14:59

Definitely NettleTea. A still will get you an instant life membership!

NettleTea · 12/11/2017 19:38

whoop whoop. I have a nice shed too. maybe that can be moved into situ. Actually if we do away with my parents in law, I already have a farm for it

pisacake · 13/11/2017 21:50

You have a shed? Surely that makes you a man.

Unless it's a she-shed, made of soft woods?

OP posts:
NettleTea · 14/11/2017 08:41

Oh God. I helped cut the wood myself. with a chainsaw.
I am a man, arent I

WelshMoth · 18/11/2017 08:25

Elendon

There is not a huge profit to be made from the NHS by making it the USA system. It's not going to happen. The USA and the UK are different in so many ways. The internet might connect us, stuff like Christmas etc; but the UK doesn't have the system in place to do it. It would be a disaster (and loose votes).

Could you explain why you think that? Genuine question. I've tried look into this myself and not getting too far.

www.vocativ.com/culture/lgbt/transgender-suicide/index.html

Transgender teens attempt and complete suicide at astonishingly high rates compared to the general population. You're (General you) taking a big and avoidable risk of having a dead child instead of a transgender one by trying to shut down discussion. I know how scary that is, but it's a tragedy that can be avoided by education on what transgender identity actually is, and how our society creates the cis identity with superficial and outdated understanding of science.

Cisgender kids don't question their gender (that's what makes them cis, that they agree with their birth assignment), and wouldn't be in a position to "suffer" from increased surgical options on a whim.

As a transgender adult, I urge you all to do reading on nonjudgmental websites about gender variations and what is currently understood about our "binary" model which is oversimplified and unhelpful. www.isna.org/ is a great resource to start with.

Thanks for reading.

009w09111 · 19/12/2017 03:02

Also I won't be reading or responding to any messages on here. Some areas of mumsnet are quite helpful to me, and I appreciate those, but I strongly hope that those of you who react with hatred and jokes to the idea of trans people will reconsider. We're not hurting you, not even when we're kids. We just want to live.

Bloodybridget · 19/12/2017 03:08

"Superficial and outdated understanding of science"? So chromosomes, hormones, genitals and reproductive systems have been misinterpreted all these years?

PersianCatLady · 19/12/2017 03:13

Even if you are an adult woman, suffer from horrendous periods and PMDD and know that you don't want children, you probably won't be allowed a hysterectomy on the NHS. You will be told that you "might change your mind"
I just thought the same thing.

My friend (age 34) has a DD, has had two ectopic pregnancies and recently got pregnant due to a contraception failure so she had an abortion.

Her DP has three children with his ex-wife.

Neither of them want any more children.

She suffers horrendously with her periods, like confined to the house for two days a month horrendous and she is a nightmare for another five days due to her periods.

She can't get a hysterectomy because "it is too final" and "she is still so young".

Both her GM and her DM had exactly the same issues as her and they both had hysterectomies and it solved their problems.

Perhaps I should suggest that she should transition and then she could get the operation that she so desperately needs.

PersianCatLady · 19/12/2017 04:09

Someone mentioned in this thread about male prisoners.

I saw in one of the NHS trust guidelines a specific thing about male prisoners who identified as trans having to have access to both a counsellor and having their gender dysmorphia issues treated.

Tomorrow when I am at my proper computer I will find it and post it.

My opinion is that if you go into prison as a man, even if you start to identify as a woman while you are in there, you don't get to have specialist gender transitioning treatment until you are released.

StoneColdDiva · 21/12/2017 06:25

What kind of an idiot thinks a constructed vagina is indistinguishable from a vagina??!

The vagina is an organ. Not a bag of skin, FFS.

The latest update from James Caspian's appeal for funds

Update on Free Speech Matters

Dear Friends and Supporters,

There has been a significant development in my case.

Last week the Office of the Independent Adjudicator for Higher Education, (that is, the ombudsman for universities) agreed to consider my complaint against Bath Spa University, on condition that my lawyers ask for a stay (that is, a holding off from) of application for judicial review.

In December 2017 I asked the OIA to look at the complaint, and it refused to do so. When my lawyers applied in March 2018 for Judicial Review of Bath Spa University's decision to not allow my research proposal, they also included the OIA in the application. Following this, the OIA decided it would look at my complaint against the university after all.

So we have asked the court to stay the application for Judicial Review while the OIA investigates my complaint. This is a necessary part of the process. Should it find in favour of the university we will continue our application for JR.

I will keep you updated as things progress. I am still raising funds to cover my legal expenses on Crowdjustice and ask that you continue to tell people about the case and the page, see

www.crowdjustice.com/case/free-speech-matters-round2/

Please tweet, re-tweet, share on Facebook and other platforms. Please ask friends and supporters to pledge.

Thank you once again for your interest and support while this long and laborious process continues.

Best Wishes,

James.

He has 4 days remaining to raise £2,455.

Can we help?

Update on Free Speech Matters

Dear Supporter,

'Trans Kids: It's Time to Talk', a documentary in which I have taken part will be shown on Channel 4 this coming Wednesday 21st November at 10pm UK time.

Click on this link for the Radio Times review

www.radiotimes.com/tv-programme/e/g9pwb2/trans-kids-its-time-to-talk/

I talked about my legal case as well as my research when I did the interview and hope that it will be included. The programme will raise some interesting and controversial issues about the discussion around 'trans'. I hope you can watch it, and please pass the link on to other people.

My Crowdjustice page has so far raised over £6,500 (£3,000 of that in the last three weeks), please continue to share the page link on Twitter, Facebook etc. The current target is £10,000 raising to £35,000.

Update on Free Speech Matters

Dear Friends and Supporters,

I'm pleased to be able to tell you that the High Court has allowed us an oral hearing to apply for permission for a Judicial Review of Bath Spa University's vetoing of my research into people reversing their gender transitions.

This means that for the first time my barrister will be able to speak publicly about why this case is important and to ask the judge to grant us a Judicial review in the High Court.

The hearing will be at The Royal Courts of Justice on the Strand, London WC2A 2LL, on Tuesday 19th February. If you are press and would like to attend with me the court number and hearing time will be available from 2.30pm on 18th February.

It has taken almost two years to get to this stage, after repeated refusals from the court based on technicalities.

It would not have been possible without your support and donations to my Crowdjustice campaign. I continue to need your support, and for you to tell other people about the case if we are to continue - either to Judicial Review, or to Appeal should the court refuse us permission.

I have in the last month done interviews for RTE Irish television; French media; Radio Canada; and journalists from the Swedish public broadcaster SVT are coming to the UK to attend the hearing on 19th February and to report on it and interview me. This has been a fairly typical month media wise, and while we have been waiting for the court to contact us I have been speaking constantly about my research and my clinical experience of ten years working in the 'trans' field, and my observations of how it has changed.

Please continue to Tweet, share on Facebook, pledge again to my page if you are able to, and help me to get this case the hearing that it deserves.

I believe it is fundamental to our democracy that controversial subjects can be discussed and researched, and this case is at the heart of that.
