To be shocked at the sheer amount of hatred and ignorance about transpeople on mumsnet

Curiositykilledthecat113 · 04/11/2017 22:22

Specifically transwomen, according to the majority of mumsnet, all transwomen want to rape biological women, “steal their womanhood” and all sorts of other ridiculous, offensive statements without any factual backing.

So why is Mumsnet so intolerant and ignorant towards transgender people?

I would love to know how many of the MNHQ team have been peak-transed over the years from having to moderate all the trans threads. I sometimes idly wonder if that’s another reason why there are fewer deletions than there used to be.

Datun · 06/11/2017 20:56

badbadhusky

That’s a good point. MNHQ are definitely more lenient with the deletions now.

BamburyFuriou3 · 06/11/2017 20:57

Yeah, i reckon you've got something there.

Datun · 06/11/2017 20:59

Isn’t Justine’s husband the deputy editor of the Guardian? Maybe that’s why they are allowing more gender critical articles, too.

I wonder if they row about it?

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 06/11/2017 21:06

No, he's the Editor of Newsnight and soon moving to Channel 4, I think.

SimoneOfHouseDavies · 06/11/2017 21:19

*PLEASE DO NOT CIS-GENDER ME

I do not subscribe to gender stereotyping.

I am neither conforming or non-conforming.

My preferred prefix is neither cis nor trans.

I am a biological female and known as a woman.

My authentic self is an individual with my own unique personality independent of my biological sex.

MY REALITY IS NOT UP FOR DEBATE*

This, this, so much this!! Say it louder!

Reed1 · 06/11/2017 21:34

This topic affects such a minuscule % of the population that it really doesn't deserve all the chatter associated with it.

There is no same sex marriage allowed in Northern Ireland yet. And that bothers me greatly. But DUP are in the pockets of la May so it won't happen anytime soon either. That is a far more important equality issue now isn't it?

All this talk of cisgender, transgender and so on is not on the radar of 99% of the population I reckon.

But I am am wary about a man entering a woman's space just by saying he is a woman. The world has gone mad.

hooochycoo · 06/11/2017 22:06

I'm new to this debate.

What I hate is the aggression from the transactivist side. The horrible smug, angry, sneering stuff . The belittling of people by calling "cishet" or "terf" . It's really horrible. I never thought I had any problem with anyone's sexuality or gender until I came across this phenomenon.

Curious as to links to mental in this kind of trans person? What is the causality? Is it that the trauma in being trans causes mental illness, or that mental illness can create the right breeding ground for the anger and aggression that seems to come with some trans activists.

Poppyred85 · 06/11/2017 22:14

Hoochycoo pop on over to the FWR chat board, there's an interesting thread on there about narcissistic rage in Autogynaephilic transwomen. Generally speaking, there is an over-representation of narcissistic personality disorder/NPD traits amongst this subset of trans women and they seem to form the bulk of the angry misogynistic TAs. Of course, personality disorders are not a mental illness in the true sense and are entirely different from gender dysphoria.

BatShite · 06/11/2017 22:19

This topic affects such a minuscule % of the population that it really doesn't deserve all the chatter associated with it.

Thousand upon thousands of kids are on 'puberty blockers' needlesly. This is absolutely a cause for a lot of chatter.
As is the laws that are proposed being changed, which will affect 51% of the population.

Reed1 · 06/11/2017 22:22

What or whom is the driving force for changing the laws without much debate now? I am baffled at the lack of debate on this TBH..

And any parent who allows a doctor to place their children on puberty blockers needs to be sectioned.

Over 18, fine. Anything under that age is a child and under the care of a responsible parent. I would have thought anyway.

Who or what is driving all this.

Long live science and biological reality.

I also really like Rya's videos btw

Rya's videos are interesting because you can really see how her opinion develops and changes and it's an interesting journey to watch.

I just checked on her channel and her latest one is "I AM AN AUTOGYNEPHILE" which made me a bit Confused. Can't watch it as I have no sound at the moment.

mirime · 07/11/2017 09:28

@Nickynackynoodle thanks for that. Unbelievable as it is! Some of this stuff makes me feel like I've fallen down a rabbit hole.

StrangeLookingParasite · 07/11/2017 16:24

I can have all the surgery and take all the hormones in the world but I still won't have changed sex. I will have just altered my body in order to make it resemble the opposite sex.

Thank you so much for saying this, even though I know you must be fed up with repeating it.

ILikeyourHairyHands · 11/11/2017 04:22

I was called a TERF today because I posted the India Willoughby This Morning link.

The BLOKE who called me a terf studies monkeys as a job.

I told him to fuck off.

I am irritated. I've been on the scene for years, 30 years and my LGB friends hate the fucking T.

And I'm being called a terf and told to fuck off? You can fucking do one idiots. I will not be called a bigot by fucking bigots.

April229 · 11/11/2017 04:44

Disagree.

But the transgender thing opens many issues. I find it remarkable that at a time when there are so many accounts of female sexual harassment being outed, and we are seeing just how prolific this is, that at the same time we are removing what past victims May consider safe places.

Am I comfortable with a man having access to a shared girls / woman’s changing room in say a swimming pool, just because he says at the door he identifies as being a woman. No, not really.

The difficulty is that it’s great that the trans person indenties as the opposite sex, but to share the same gender definded spaces of that sex is a difficult accommodation for the people using that space who DON’T identify you as the opposite to your biological sex. Obviously a compromise will need to be found, but there are challenges.

WelshMoth · 11/11/2017 12:03

sagamartha

I hope some people understand the difference between TRAs and the majority of trans people trying to live their lives.

It's difficult to do that because it's that small amount of entitled, misogynistic arseholes that are wielding the power and affecting change.

Whilst folk like Miranda Yardley and MN'er OrderMeaCurry are trying to muddle on with life as best they can with the rest of us are targeted with vile abuse and threats for publicly speaking out.

WelshMoth · 11/11/2017 12:04

Curry

Most so-called transphobic posts here are actually transactivistphobic

Yes. Nailed it.

BatShite · 11/11/2017 14:58

Just found out my old boss is gender critical, and I am fairly shocked. Apparently she has had issues with some guy demanding access to the female loos (she owns a restaurant). He started kicking off about how he 'identifies' as female, and she said she gives not a toss and if he identified as a kid he would not be able to stroll into a nursery to sit playing with them all. And age is a reality, along with sex. Which he did not like. Is what I have managed to understand from facebook.

He also apparently reported her to the police for a 'hate crime' so she is thinking she might get a visit. I would think the police probably agree with her assessment tbh, and are sick of having their time wasted by people reporting others for understanding biology.

I do think most people just do not understand whats going on exactly, so many who seem supportive just don't really understand. The ones who do understand, and still support it all? I think are homophobic and/or misogynistic tbh

QuackPorridgeBacon · 11/11/2017 15:01

You know the transactivists are fucked in the head when they refuse to listen to actual transgendered people. Dumb asses the lot of them.

QuackPorridgeBacon · 11/11/2017 15:03

Batshite your old boss puts it brilliantly and t makes so much sense. You wouldn’t allow an adult to identify as a child and have access to child only spaces so why not the same for women only spaces? Both are vulnerable to predators only difference is women are now being made to accept possible abuse.

StickThatInYourPipe · 11/11/2017 15:04

I find it remarkable that at a time when there are so many accounts of female sexual harassment being outed, and we are seeing just how prolific this is, that at the same time we are removing what past victims May consider safe places

I think this is a clever timing to do it. Whilst the people who would normally be fighting this, they are outraged by the much nore prolific and reported on cases of sexual harassment. Leaving this very under reported and will allow to go through without so much noise from the pesky feminists.

1Mother20152015 · 11/11/2017 15:13

Hardly anyohne is trans and I've not beeni na changing room for 20 years (just buy on line ) so it's not an issue which affects me. However I do find trans women (men_) on line seem to want like a lot of men everywhere to shout women down and not let us get a word in edgeways which tends to stretch female tolerance to the limit.

Yes most of us want all peoples treated fairly and kindly but as soon as you put statistics about crimes by men as if they were crimes by women you start undoing decades of work towards fairness for women so there are certainly vital issues involved here and God knows the number of men who want to get into a top shop changing room with teenage girls...... recipe for disaster.

Pennypickle · 11/11/2017 15:22

I can’t be arsed to read the full thread. I guess it’s pretty much going round in circles of latest threads.

I think maybe you don’t know the difference between trans women - those who no longer have a penis (I haven’t seen any hate towards trans women who have taken steps to become a woman. In fact I would say 99% of people have no problem with them).

However recent threads are about trans gender people - you know those who have no inclination to become a woman as they like to identify as a man when it suits them. The people with a penis who have no interest in considering unisex changing rooms and toilets. The ones who have a penis but demand to be allowed to drop their kegs around female adults and little girls.

See the difference??
