Sat on a night out with the girls discussing personal hygiene..... I wash twice a week. Some are saying this is too much , some too little ?! Thoughts please ?
New poster, this is light hearted. Grin

The phrase 'pits and bits' is starting to make me feel a bit queasy. Just get yourself in the shower and get properly clean FFS!

Ecureuil · 06/11/2017 13:23

Pits and bits 😷

Abbylee · 06/11/2017 13:36

Surely, many have read this OP too quickly? She didn't say how often she bathes; her friends and she discussed it. Some think 2xs is good, others disagree. It's not nice to tell her that she smells badly (as she light heartedly didn't tell us her preference).

BakedBeans47 · 06/11/2017 13:37

She said in the OP that she washes twice a week and further expanded later in the thread that it’s on a Monday and a Thursday

FiddleWiddiRiddim · 06/11/2017 13:38

I shower twice a day every day apart from Sunday.

I have a long relaxing soak on a Sunday afternoon.

Lozz22 · 06/11/2017 13:40

Every other day including hair. Every day during AF but that’s usually just unhooking the shower and washing downstairs! I feel minging atm because I’ve only managed 1 shower since last Monday! I’ve been poorly with flu and a chest infection and the last thing I’ve wanted to do is stand and get wet every day! I might make the effort tonight though! As for BV unless I’m desperate or on AF I never use soap or shower gel down there! It’s either Johnson’s baby shampoo, a ph balanced feminine wash or pure water!! I much prefer just pure water. The vagina is self cleaning anyway and wasn’t designed to smell like a floral garden from scented shower gels!

Hushabyelullaby · 06/11/2017 13:58

I am unable to shower unassisted (mobility issues), so don't often have one, HOWEVER, I fully wash head to toe every morning and wash my hair every other day. This is an absolute minimum for me, I grew up with the maiden name Kelly, and was always scrupulously clean 1) because I don't like to smell bad, and 2) as a child I was told that if I wasn't, kids would call me 'smelly Kelly'.

Just the thought of getting intimate with someone who hadn't washed that day makes me feel a bit ill. I'd not let my husband get intimate with me if I hadn't washed either.

bumblingbovine49 · 06/11/2017 14:04

When I was younger I only showered/took a bath 2-3 times a week. I absolutely did not smell. Nowadays I need a shower every day as otherwise I do smell. I am not sure why things changed but having DS is where it started really, Maybe it is a hormonal thing and getting older

DH has a bath every day but recently has been so busy he mentioned that he hadn't had time to wash for 3 days. I absolutely did not notice as he did not smell at all.

Some people smell more than others so probably need to wash more often. Ask someone you trust to tell you whether you do smell (almost certainly not) and carry on as you are.

From the sample of on MN, the world seems full of people who wash 2-3 times a day and who obsessively change bed sheets/towels every couple of days

Bluelonerose · 06/11/2017 14:07

Shower at least once a day but I sweat buckets so need too Blush
Hair wash every other day or dry shampoo if I'm only doing school run to push it one more day.

Migraleve · 06/11/2017 14:09

Maybe you read it too quickly?

The OP says twice a week. She then goes on to say which days.

bemusedmoose · 06/11/2017 14:58

Actually the more you wash the more you smell if you miss a wash.

Obviously going ages without a wash is going to be smelly for everyone one. But those in a twice a week routine actually dont smell like you'd imagine. You have a more natural balance of good bacterias that deal with things like dead skin, sweat, oils. It's when you strip off all the good stuff by daily washes that the smells build up very quickly.

Lots of people use the no shampoo method of just a weekly rinse in water - the hair doesn't smell or get dirt the way washed hair does.

I wash my hair 2-3 times a week with a shower. I have skin that cant cope with much washing and it also cant tolerate any moisturisers. If needed i bird bath in between but rarely have to. Even when i was in hospital and couldn't wash at all (baby wipes only) it took over a week before i got smelly and felt dirty. I always have fresh clothes.

They actually did a historical experiment - daily washer stopping washing vs the infrequent washer as per historical re-enactment. The daily washers were eye watering within 48hrs. The wipe down and freshen up with only a rare 'proper' wash didnt smell at all.

HarmlessChap · 06/11/2017 15:10

I shower or bathe most days, I can get away with skipping a day without people knowing. In late spring I spent 2 nights camping with friends, aka getting pissed in a field, the 1st thing I did when I got home was to get in the shower as I smelled awful and felt worse.

Anatidae · 06/11/2017 15:44

But those in a twice a week routine actually dont smell like you'd imagine

This just isn’t true. Every time I get on a bus I’m overwhelmed by the smell of unwashed hair. I know several people who are infrequent washers - ALL of them say this stuff and ALL are convinced they don’t smell. Absolutely convinced of it. They can’t smell themselves and no one has ever told them. They spout all the no poo stuff and are convinced their hair smells fine. They don’t seem to acknowledge that, like the OPs friends, no bugger is going to outright tell you you smell. The British would rather eat their own eyes.

They all smell. All of them.

Ollivander84 · 06/11/2017 15:50

There's no poo method and there's not washing it!
Mine is scrubbed with conditioner for between 5-10 minutes, rinsed well, conditioner, products and styled. I just don't use any foaming agents. My hair is never greasy, and it smells of conditioner

NameChangeFamousFolk · 06/11/2017 16:02

Yes, I admit I wince slightly when I read that.

I know several people who co-wash (i.e.. just wash with conditioner). Their hair smells perfectly lovely. Aveda do a really nice no-poo wash for people who simply prefer no foaming agents. It's really not dirty to co-wash. Confused

Cockmagic · 06/11/2017 16:15

What the hell is no poor?

Cockmagic · 06/11/2017 16:15

#no poo?

Blondeshavemorefun · 06/11/2017 16:17

shower or bath daily, wash hair 2/3 times a week when needs it

and the into clean pj's/nightie as whey put a clean body into used/dirty nightwear - if shower at night

Bella8 · 06/11/2017 16:23

I shower usually every morning. Sometimes I love an evening bath however especially in the winter; I usually don't get the time unless DH look after DS for alittle while and I get to have one and it is absolute bliss!! I wouldn't feel clean if didn't shower every other to everyday. In summer I sometimes like to twice a day!

milliemolliemou · 06/11/2017 16:26

Lucky to live in a country with water on tap. As long as people have abandoned their microplastic bead body washes etc - abandon plastic as much as they can, don't put wipes down loos, not overwash clothes unless sports, I can't be arsed. 1st world problem BUT if you use those microbeads it's a total world problem.

Bella8 · 06/11/2017 16:38

I thought the micro beads were banned now?

clarkl2 · 06/11/2017 16:53

BV is down to bacteria.... which builds up when you don't wash!

Vicky1990 · 06/11/2017 17:03

Shower once a week, wash bits in morning and before bed.
Never use any chemical body spray or perfume. Its not your body that smells but unwashed clothing.

Ecureuil · 06/11/2017 17:05

That doesn’t make sense. Your body must be dirty/smell to make your clothes smell.

Ecureuil · 06/11/2017 17:05

Also, does that mean your armpits/feet only get washed once a week?
