To wonder why my teen is stealing sugar?

One of my kids (both teens) is stealing the sugar. I don't know which one.

I noticed a brand new bag of sugar had vanished last week, I assumed it had been spilled by one of the kids who had failed to mention it. Actually that didn't really make sense at the time because neither of them is capable of cleaning a bag of sugar so well. Either way I forgot all about it.

Now a second bag has disappeared.

It's not me, its not DH. Nobody else has had access.

What the fuckity fuck is going on?

Diabetes OR making alcohol/bombs

Telstar99 · 02/11/2017 20:30

Maybe one of them has an ant farm in their bedroom! Shock

Have you asked them about it?

Tessliketrees · 02/11/2017 20:31

making alcohol

Wouldn't put it past the oldest to have a speakeasy on the sly.

They're making you a giant cake?

Tessliketrees · 02/11/2017 20:32

They're both out.

How strange! No useful input as to what they could be using it for though, that would be driving me mad wondering! Presume you haven’t asked them yet?

Tessliketrees · 02/11/2017 20:34

They're making you a giant cake?

Just double checked and the flour is still there... it is also now a solid so maybe they are sourcing it from somewhere else.

SparklyUnicornPoo · 02/11/2017 20:34

making body scrub? Alcohol sounds more likely though.

beepboopbeep · 02/11/2017 20:34

Grinding it down and cutting ur with drugs? Hmm

Tessliketrees · 02/11/2017 20:36

wish

It is driving me mad! The thing is my youngest is generally really honest and a horrific liar when he tries to so if it's him it will be easy.

The oldest is some sort of lying master who would make a spymaster blush with his lying improv.

I am worried that the oldest is taking it and I will never know the true purpose.

OP posts:
Tessliketrees · 02/11/2017 20:36

Is making alcohol a real thing? I mean surely it would be more hassle than its worth?

What age are they? When I was in sixth form I'd regularly pinch sugar and tea bags to use in the common room

Ttbb · 02/11/2017 20:38

Body scrub was my first thought. Do people actually make alcohol just out of sugar? Could they maybe be doing it just to mess with you?

Crumpets4tea · 02/11/2017 20:38

Something to do with sugar awareness week?

When I was in sixth form I'd regularly pinch sugar

Oldest is in 6th form but 2 bags in less in such a short space of time? Still that's the most likely suggestion so far.

Body scrub is highly unlikely.

My ds2 did this he was a sugar addict and I found he could eat it out of the bag.
When I caught him he said he'd just burn it and make caramel or treacle toffee.
He was about 14 at the time.

ichbineinstasumer · 02/11/2017 20:42

did you look behind the bed?

hareagain · 02/11/2017 20:42

My first thought was to cut with drugs. On seeing other posts, all of these are possible. Confront them.

Tessliketrees · 02/11/2017 20:42

gillybeanz

Hmmm sounds possible of the youngest. He should be back shortly so I will found out.

SpotAGuillemot · 02/11/2017 20:44

I used to ‘borrow’ boxes of tea and bags of sugar for sixth form common room, it was an attempt at getting people to like me.

gillybeanz · 02/11/2017 20:45

OP, if it is for the same reason, I hope not.
It's pretty bad to consume that much sugar as I know you're aware.
I know it's not as bad as drugs obviously but it's still a bit obsessive, I had to watch him like a hawk and even though it's not bags of sugar now, he's still addicted to sugar in all forms as a grown man.

I hope you get your answer and please update it's baffling Grin

Tessliketrees · 02/11/2017 20:47

gilly

That is right up the youngests street, he can be obsessive. Although he has never really had a sweet tooth it wouldn't be beyond the realms of possibility that he has suddenly developed one and not told me.

Drugs/alcohol/some weird pet they don't want you to know about.

you need to find out because if it's being used to cut with drugs it'll be the hard stuff - crack or heroin.
