To wonder why my teen is stealing sugar?

One of my kids (both teens) is stealing the sugar. I don't know which one.

I noticed a brand new bag of sugar had vanished last week, I assumed it had been spilled by one of the kids who had failed to mention it. Actually that didn't really make sense at the time because neither of them is capable of cleaning a bag of sugar so well. Either way I forgot all about it.

Now a second bag has disappeared.

It's not me, its not DH. Nobody else has had access.

What the fuckity fuck is going on?

Do either of them have food tech at school? Potentially they're just nicking it to take in for that because they're too lazy to weigh it out. Did that a few times at school Blush

hendricksyousay · 02/11/2017 20:55

How weird , let us know when you find out !

LoniceraJaponica · 02/11/2017 20:56

Some drugs make the user crave sugar.

BatteredBreadedOrSouthernFried · 02/11/2017 20:56

Have you checked their rooms?

BrieAndChilli · 02/11/2017 20:58

A whole bag is a bit wierd. If it was to eat I would imagine they would take just a few spoons at a time, ditto for body scrub and possibly even drugs?? (Don’t know anything about drugs but would have thought unless they were dealing a whole bag of sugar would be too much to mix in at one go?)

My sister used to eat bowls of icing sugar or water icing. She's weird Hmm

DH used to bugger about making pipe bombs (as a kid, not last week) from common household substances like sugar. Could one of them be doing that?

FATEdestiny · 02/11/2017 21:05

My money is on it being taken into the sixth form common room for tea making.

SparklyUnicornPoo · 02/11/2017 21:07

Is making alcohol a real thing? I mean surely it would be more hassle than its worth?

My brother and I tried a few times as teenagers, mostly with blackberries and elderberries. it never tasted good though.

Yes making alcohol is a real thing, and no its not more hassle than its worth! But you get a yeasty smell from it so I'd expect you to have noticed, unless he's using a filter. Check the airing cupboard. You're looking for a 5l water jug full of cloudy liquid, unless he's using 24 hour yeast.

Strummerville · 02/11/2017 21:09

they'll just be eating it by the spoonful for a quick sugar fix

I used to do this as a teen Blush

I'm normal now (ish)!

gillybeanz · 02/11/2017 21:09

I would say what a great thread, but that's not fair when the OP is obviously worried.

Another thought, could it be Art related, my Dad would always have sugar in his workshop, but unfortunately I couldn't tell you much about the usage apart from thick gritty effects.

PsammeadPaintedTheLion · 02/11/2017 21:11

My first thought was that they are filling patrol tanks with it.

That might be a result of my criminal extended family Grin

ManchesterGin · 02/11/2017 21:13

My sister used to eat sugar cubes as a teen! Could be similar.

sadiemm2 · 02/11/2017 21:13

I'm not sure you can cut cocaine with granulated sugar. Pretty sure it's icing sugar. It's pretty hard to snort otherwise...

Dobopdidoo1 · 02/11/2017 21:13

Weird. Hoping you get to the bottom of it.

This is entirely unhelpful but I really want to know what's going on and am therefore blatantly placemarking Blush

Piggywaspushed · 02/11/2017 21:19

Whoever said look behind the bed is spot on.

I found seven empty Diet Coke cans and three socks a few weeks ago.

I used to eat sugar too. As a teenager that is.

Tessliketrees · 02/11/2017 21:22

Youngest has been eliminated from inquiries.

Oldest still out.

I'm not worried, just baffled.

If he was cutting crystal meth he should be able to afford to buy his own sugar.

😂😂😂

parkermoppy · 02/11/2017 21:25

we have a neighbour who asks for a lot of sugar, regularly. not like the amount for tea and coffee but asks to borrow a lot, often. after speaking to other neighbours we realised hes been asking at about six houses!

who knows what he does with it but he seems to need lots of it!
