To wonder why my teen is stealing sugar?

One of my kids (both teens) is stealing the sugar. I don't know which one.

I noticed a brand new bag of sugar had vanished last week, I assumed it had been spilled by one of the kids who had failed to mention it. Actually that didn't really make sense at the time because neither of them is capable of cleaning a bag of sugar so well. Either way I forgot all about it.

Now a second bag has disappeared.

It's not me, its not DH. Nobody else has had access.

What the fuckity fuck is going on?

Why don't you think it's DH? Time to corner him!

Insomnibrat · 02/11/2017 22:25

Definate sugar cam.

Or one of those indelible ink bombs like Securicor have for cash bags which explode all over the assailant when opened.

buckingfrolicks · 02/11/2017 22:26

Bringing the youngest in for questioning. Snort. That’s funny

Obsidian77 · 02/11/2017 22:27

Just saw your update - how confusing.
Have you had anyone else in the house recently who might have "borrowed" it?

Insomnibrat · 02/11/2017 22:27

Buy another bag and replace it with salt. snigger

Floellabumbags · 02/11/2017 22:27

Could you recruit the youngest one to go undercover and investigate for you?

relaxitllbeok · 02/11/2017 22:28

In my house the answer would be that DH had misplaced it somewhere that seemed natural to him and bizarre to me.

usernameavailable · 02/11/2017 22:28

What a bizarre conversation. Have you been stealing the sugar. Hope you find the culprit!

dotdotdotmustdash · 02/11/2017 22:28

Tweezers. I buy lots of tweezers and I have none when I want them. My Dc both appear to have several each in their rooms both here and at Uni.

Good point, in whodunnits it's always the first one eliminated. He was rather casual about it when he is usually as tight as a fucking drum and has an inquiry when we let half a loaf go off.

I mean... both times it was the WHOLE bag. A brand new unopened bag was there and then it was gone. We keep the sugar on the go in a jar and only noticed when it came to refilling.

I would hide something confusing in there like open up the bag of sugar empty it out, fill it with rice and then close it back up.

Weaverspin · 02/11/2017 22:29

To be fair, my teen son just eats sugar by the spoonful. Cereal demands at least 3 spoonfuls (as well as what ends up scattered across the table). I took to hiding it for a while, but that was a PITA. I’m amazed he hasn’t thought of just nicking a whole bag. I’ll be keeping watch after this!

Rugratwrangler · 02/11/2017 22:29

I bet it's DH, you'll come home early one day to him scooping sugar with his fingers into his mouth with a crazed look on his face

kw1091 · 02/11/2017 22:30

Put a tiny slit in the next bag and follow the trail of sugar!

MollyHuaCha · 02/11/2017 22:31

OP are you sure it’s not you? Sleepwalking or something...

I knew someone who made Angel Delight at 3.00am. When confronted the next morning they denied all knowledge. But the sticky bowl and hand whisk were still in the sink.

Insomnibrat · 02/11/2017 22:33

Do they have school bags? Sweep the insides for trace elements.

BubbaLips · 02/11/2017 22:34

.

SparklyUnicornPoo · 02/11/2017 22:39

Ah-hah, I've got it, DH has decided you are wasting too much money on sugar and has been returning it to the shop.

fourcorneredcircle · 02/11/2017 22:39

This is the best thread for ages!

Tessliketrees · 02/11/2017 22:43

SparklyUnicornPoo

I wouldn't put it past him.

Bath and bed now, although I am fairly sure it's Oldest I am going to re-interview Youngest in the morning.

I am also considering an elaborate sting operation on DH involving hiding the next bag of sugar myself to see how he reacts.

Has it been put somewhere else like the fridge?

pinkingshears · 02/11/2017 22:46

Had a crap day. This has made me howl and snort before bed.
THANK YOU, OP. Flowers

Insomnibrat · 02/11/2017 22:47

I'd be checking the garden shed tomorrow to make sure there isn't a cottage industry being run from there.
Cider apples are dropping at the moment.

RedPandaMama · 02/11/2017 22:48

This thread is absolutely gripping! Shameless placemark Grin

picklemepopcorn · 02/11/2017 22:53

Definitely get DS2 on the job.
